OU No Weather Team (First Team)

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting a team here for feedback so feel free to criticize. Back in DPPt there wasn't weather based teams (or you didnt see them that often), so I missed those days and tryed a different aproach.

Genie (Landorus) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

So Landorus was a late addition to teh team, before him I had Gliscor and T-Tar but that gave me some problems to deal with. Landorus is able to abuse enemy sandstorms to become faster and sweep things, I didnt feel like I needed choice scarf because I dont like the idea of being loked in a move with Landorus.

462.gif

Negaton (Magnezone) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Magnezone is my steel killer, I use it to kill enemy steel types and he can help deal with some water types aswell.

485.gif

Igneel (Heatran) (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Baiting Fire moves with Magnezone and Virizion, is too good to pass Heatran was the obvious choice here plus he can shine under Sunny Day.
Hidden power Grass to help cover agaisnt Rotom-W and similar threats.

640.gif

Madou (Virizion) @ Life Orb
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Another late addition, I find him pretty strong he can help me cover agaisnt both sand and rain teams. Dragons also dislike him having Hidden Power Ice.

381.gif

Jet (Latios) (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psyshock

My dragon of choice, he can use surft which can combo well with Kingdra, and he is a Dragon lol thats about it.

230.gif

Draco (Kingdra) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
- Rain Dance
- Ice Beam

The reason why I started playing competive Pokemon again, after seeing a post here about Kingdra abusing rain teams, I definitly had to try my own version. rain Dance is there for other match-ups orther than Rain.

So I guess this is it, Thanks in advance for the feedback :)

hi there,

cool weatherless team you got here, kingdra is especially good in this metagame with the prevalence of rain. anyway, first thing i saw was the big weakness to special walls. you have a lot of trouble breaking through chansey, especially given that your only physical attacker in landorus cannot 2hko chansey. it means chansey can essentially outstall everything on your team, as you have little to break through it. there are a couple ways to get around this, i think the easiest fix would be to replace either calm mind or focus blast on virizion's set with close combat, as with life orb close combat does 52% minimum to chansey, ensuring a 2hko on it every time. if you go with this change, switch virizion over to a rash nature, so that you're not lowering your atk stat. this change paves the way for your supporting sweepers in latios and heatran to do work upon the opponent's team.

another thing i noticed was the kind of redundancy that magnezone brings to your team. the only reason you would use magnezone on a team, is if you are overly weak to steels such as ferrothorn, but between heatran, hp fire latios and virizion, you really don't seem to have any trouble with steels. magnezone in general is a pretty subpar scarfer at best, failing to outspeed base 115s and higher such as starmie and more importantly, tornadus-t. i think you'd be much better off replacing it, mainly with something that can act great against rain, as you really seem to have full reliance on it. something like scarf keldeo could work as it works great against opposing rain offense, as well as benefitting from kingdra's rain dance. something like scarf jirachi could work as well acting as a buffer for tornadus-t with its hurricanes, as well as being able to check dragons nicely. it's all down to preference, but magnezone really doesn't seem all that necessary on your team.

in this metagame dominated by speed, it's not such a bad idea to have two scarfers on the same team. what i'm suggesting here is scarf latios > expert belt latios, as it has many benefits over your current set. first of all, you gain act as a good revenge killer for stuff such as +1 dnite, scarf keldeo, scarf genesect, etc. all of which seem to cause you some problems. you also get the jump on modest venusaur and other weather abusers too, and an arguably much better check against sun too, as heatran + scarf latios should help you against sun teams with genesect or dugtrio, while heatran beats venusaur easily with air balloon. if you're running scarf though, you might want to run trick somewhere on your set too, probably over surf if anything. this means you can cripple chansey / blissey that switch in, making it much easier for virizion to set up easily.

something else that i noticed on your team was your heatran's moveset. i'm not entirely sure you're getting the maximum potential out of that, especially with hidden power [grass]. the only things you hit noticeably harder is things such as rotom-w, jellicent and gastrodon, and you really shouldn't be staying in on any of these anyway. i think you'd make much better use of hidden power [ice] in place of hidden power [grass]. one of the main perks of air balloon heatran is that it acts as a great check to dragons that commonly carry earthquake, such as salamence and dragonite, either of which can setup vs heatran pretty easily with hp grass, and you risk being swept as you /currently/ lack a reliable scarfer. hidden power [ice] generally has more merit, while the bulky waters that hp grass does hit, virizion can use as setup fodder.

also a small change, you might want to alter your kingdra's ev spread slightly. your current set is a little inefficient, as kingdra doesn't need to run max speed under rain to outspeed what it needs to. by changing your ev spread to 28 hp / 252 satk / 228 spe you outspeed everything up to opposing scarf latios, which is the fastest and most relevant benchmark you need to hit. the extra bulk is appreciated when taking priority, as you will be worn down quick by life orb and taking hazard damage upon switching in. you may also want to consider running an extra 20 atk evs and waterfall > ice beam if you feel like special walls are still a problem for this team, as this means you can 2hko blissey with waterfall factoring in life orb and rain. of course, if you make this change you will want to change your nature over to one that doesn't lower your attack, preferably rash.

i hope these suggestions helped you out, good luck!

  • close combat > focus blast / calm mind for virizion
  • scarf keldeo / scarf jirachi > scarf magnezone
  • scarf latios > expert belt latios (optional)
  • hidden power [ice] > hidden power [grass] for heatran
  • 28 hp / 252 satk / 228 spe > 252 satk / 4 sdef / 252 spe for kingdra
  • 20 atk / 252 satk / 8 sdef / 228 spe + waterfall + rash nature for kingdra (optional)

First off thanks for the tips.
The team was mainly centered around the objective of countering most of the meta. Magnezone was my 2nd choice for it's slot Jirachi was there originaly but I didnt like its preformance that much :\ so Magnezone came to mind. I might try out Keldeo though i dunno if having both Keldeo and Virizion on my team would be bad or not :\

About Heatran, I used HP Grasse because I had many problems dealing with Rotom-W, before adding Virizion so I should try HP Ice.

The only other thing I am unsure in this team is Latios I'm not liking its overall use in the team, could anyone sugest other options over it?
