INTRODUCTION
I started Pokemon competitively only a while ago. This is my first team that is successful to me, and it's a whole lots of fun! I have been playing with this team for about 1 week and I'm kinda happy with it, but still, it's far from perfect, and I would like to hear suggestions you guys have to make it better. Long story short, let's go with the team.
TEAM AT FIRST GLANCE
TEAM MEMBERS IN DETAIL
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 136 HP / 80 Def / 92 Sp.Atk / 84 Sp.Def / 116 Spd
Nature: Modest
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
Rotom-W is one of my favorite pokemon, due to it's typing giving only the rare Grass attack can do Super Effective damage to him. He acts as my Lead/Scout. Volt Switch gives me the ability to deal damage and switch out at the same time. Pain Split is to heal him up against tanky pokemon who can't do anything to him (e.g. Jellicent). Following the suggestion, I changed Hidden Power [Grass] to Hidden Power [Fire], but found it not to be very useful due to the fact that people hardly switch Scizor or Steel-type in particular (save for Ferrorthorn), so I changed the EVs to give him more ability to stay, and switch Hidden Power with Will-O-Wisp. He acts as a Physical sweeper and set-ups checks, giving them a burn, making things harder for them.
Heatran @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 68 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 188 Spd
Nature: Modest
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Earth Power
Heatran is great as a couple with Rotom-W, they almost give perfect coverage to each others. Whenever I sense danger from and Earth attack, I could switch to Rotom-W or Latios. Fire Blast is the main STAB of Heatran. I found out that Bulky Water type switch into Heatran too often, thus I give him HIdden Power [Grass] to deal some damage to them before switching out to Rotom-W. Dragon Pulse is to take the Dragons by surprise, since I found out that Dragonite set up on my Heatran quite often.Earth Power is the good old attack of Heatran, provide me the opportunity to OHKO opposing Heatran or giving Tentacruel a nice dent. 188 Sp is once again to outspeed base 100 Spd Pokemon
Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Timid
- Sacred Swords
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Surf
As Suggested by MCBarret, I tried out Keldeo, and he works just perfect. Keldeo has a lot of uses, from clearing weakened Pokemon, to check threats like Specially Defensive Tyranitar, and to force switch on Scizor locked in Bullet Punch. Sacred Swords is his reliable STAB and is used to OHKO any Tyranitars, while Hidden Power [Ice] is used to revenge kill set up dragons like DDance Dragonite or DDance Salamence. Both Hydro Pump and Surf are reliable STABs, with Surf providing perfect accuracy while Hydro Pump provide the power when needed.
Latios @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 244 Spd
Nature: Timid
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Fire]
I has always been irritated by the power and speed of Latios, so one day I just think "Why don't I use 1 myself?". I used to use Choice Specs Latios for the sake of spamming Draco Meteor, but figured out that I easily get trapped and killed by the common threat Scizor, so I changed from Choice Specs to Life Orb, giving him the ability to switch to Hidden Power [Fire] to OHKO Scizor (given he has not used Draco Meteor). I figured that Psyshock is not that good of an idea, do to the fact that people always assume Latios has it, so they are not gonna be stupid as to put in anything that's gonna die after 1 hit, plus I never actually use it much, so I replace it with Thunderbolt and it works great for me. He has Hidden power [Fire] so his max speed is 349, no point in maxing Speed out so I just give 244 Spd to outspeed the likes of Keldeo / Infernape and the rest dump into HP.
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 240 HP / 64 Atk / 16 Def / 188 Sp.Def
Nature: Sassy
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast
My team is still pretty Rain-weak, and as I want more control over weather, Tyranitar is a perfect choice. His Sp. Def boost in the sand makes him extremely hard to take down if the attack is neutral. Stone Edge is his reliable STAB move, while Stealth Rock is to set-up on other defensive Pokemon or Specially Offensive Pokemon who can't do anything to him, Pursuit is used as a check on Latios and Latias. Fire Blast is there to give Ferrorthorn/Scizor a nice lump thus make it easier for Tyranitar or teammates to KO them
Garchomp @ Yache Berry
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 36 HP / 96 ATK / 4 Def / 132 Sp.Def / 240 Spd
Nature: Jolly
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Stone Edge
I would appreciate a set-up sweeper. At first, I go with the Dragon Dance MixMence set, dropping Draco Meteor, forcing your opponent to Switch-out than DDance up, but found out that he easily get Revenge killed with Scizor. So I switch to Garchomp, and loved him. He's gonna get 1 Swords Dance so I don't figure that I need to invest much Attack on him, and would better dump them into the Def stats to easily get up Swords Dance on Pokemon that couldn't harm him (e.g. Choice Specs Jolteon - believe me I see a lot of them). his unique 102 speeds and the EVs / Nature let me outspeed max speed 100 base. easily revenge kill pokemon like Salamence, or even Dragonite after 1 Swords Dance.
MATCH UP
RAIN TEAM
Even with Tyranitar, rain team is still a pain for me to deal with. Tyranitar can only take 2-3 Hydro Pumps from Specs Politoed, and it's even more dangerous with Keldeo in their team. But rain team is manageable with Rotom-W Volt Switch scouting and his Hidden Power [Grass] for the likes of Gastrodon/Swampert.
SUN TEAM
This team is not much of a threat for me, since Heatran can stop almost all the attacks from Solar Beam to Fire moves and hit back hard. He can set up stealth rocks to severely damage the opponent's pokemon as switching. Tyranitar also cancel out Sunny Day and could easily Stone Edge/Earthquake the opponent's pokemon
BATON PASS!!!
This is seriously the team I have the most trouble with. Even with Scizor as a lead, it can't OHKO Ninjask, letting him Protect for 1 turn, then pass onto Mew, who subsequently Barrier boost or Amnesia boost up depends on the pokemon I send out, which makes him almost impossible to kill. I figured out a way to fix this by leading with Tyranitar, setting up Sandstorm to take out HP from Ninjask, then I switch onto Scizor and Bullet Punch him to death (he normally waits for 2 Speed Boosts before giving it to another member in the team)
SET-UP SWEEPERS
I have problems with set-up sweepers, they basically switch-in into a pokemon that can't harm them, DDance, Swords Dance, Nasty Plot up and there they go, sweeping my whole team. Even Scizor can't revenge kill them without prior damage. I am thinking of putting a Roar/Whirlwind user into my team to eliminate this threat, I tried Garchomp with Dragon Tail but it didn't really work as expected, he easily get OHKO by the sweeper.
That's basically all there is to say, hopefully you could find a way to fix the weakness (either by replacing moves, pokemon, EVs distribution, Items or Nature), or find more weakness that the team has, and thanks in advance :D
