my school tournament is in a few days, and a couple friends and I have been tweaking our teams. Right now my team is stomping their teams, but since the winner of this tourney gets a $60 Best Buy gift card and I really want to buy the new game in 8 days, I'd love some help from the people on smogon!
The idea for the team I made was to abuse the SpD boost from sandstorm rock pokemon. I've always felt like battlers don't give enough credit to what can be a tremendously boost. Anyway, here's my team (I'll try not to babble on too much from here on out)
Tyranitar @ life orb
sandstream
jolly (+Spe, -SpA) EVs: 0-4-126-0-126-252
-Stealth Rock
-Pursuit
-Rock Slide
-Superpower
good ol' Ttar... except not really. this is a kind of untypical Ttar that is used to scare opponents starters off. If they (namely Aerodactyl, Ninjask, Jolteon, other low defense pokemon) switch out in fear of rock slide or a nonexistent EQ, i get a chance to pursuit or free SR. Ttar also sets up the sandstorm I need to boost my teams SpD. I've used Swampert in this spot and it's been fine, but I'd prefer to keep a Ttar up front so Swampert can piss off people when I wall their ttar in its tracks.
I maxed out the speed here and put on superpower to one hit kill any ttar aside from a choice scarfer
Regirock @ leftovers
clear body
Careful (+SpD, -SpA) 252-36-0-0-220-0
-hammer arm
-rock slide
-explosion
-thunder wave
the title may have mislead you... I recently found out that sandstorm only work to boost rock SpD. Regardless, Regirock becomes the tankiest tank in existence when sand is in the air. Def: 200, SpD: 150, HP: 80 (unlike 20HP for Schuckle). rock slide and thunder wave can be very frustrating because of the flinch and paralyze hax. Regirock can take EQs from faster pokemon and then paralyze them or blow up. Hammer Arm checks anyone that thinks Ttar can beat out Regirock, as well as scares off a blissey that wants to heal its now crippled teammates. 252Atk252Spe EV Ttar takes 4, count em', FOUR hits to knock Regi down when leftovers are on, and Regirock's 100Atk explosion takes >%50 from ttar, OHKO's dragondance dragonite, and some wall-ing zapdos. A common lifeorb Heatran takes off < 20% with fire blast, that Metagross ALWAYS is OHKO'd by, and > 30% from HP grass.
Swampert @ quick claw
torrent
impish (+def, -SpA) Evs 252-124-128-0-0-0
-counter
-ice punch
-earthquake
-mirror coat/aqua tail
A mirrorcoat/counter set... because I want my victims to cry. Quick Claw is a weird item, but it's nice after swampert has taken two hits and might not survive a third. It's better to be lucky than good isn't it? Oh well, leftovers wasn't doing anything, so I put on the quick claw.
Scizor @ choice band
technician
adament (+Atk, -SpA) Evs 248-252-0-0-0-8
-U-turn
-Bullet Punch
-Superpower/Brick Break
-Pursuit
No one uses grass, but this team's origin ran regirock for registeel and milotic for porygon, and I didn't want to constantly be afraid of a roserade or shaymin or celebi screwing me over. (keep in mind this team isn't for shoddy, so only people with pokesav are going to have access to grass legendaries). This set isn't original at all, but with 591 attack and U-turn (105 power with tech boost and STAB) and bullet punch (90 power with tech boost, STAB, AND speed priority) it doesn't need to be. Scizor's types causes some bad mismatches for the other team and forces a switch out, which is fine by me since pursuit gets a tech boost to 75 base power. Superpower let's me counter Ttar, but I'm consider switching it to Brick Break (why don't I ever see Brick Break users?)
Not having double-hit on a technician set saddens me... but I'm not too sad with this Basas$ bug on my team.
Togekiss @ leftovers
serene grace
Modest (+SpA,-Atk) Evs 252-0-0-36-220-0
-nasty plot
-air slash
-aura sphere
-roost
Cutest pokemon that can fight. Also a good switch in for tanks that I can afford a hit from, because it lets Togekiss set up a nasty plot and OHKO or 2HKO almost any pokemon. 2HKO's aren't always bad with air slash because of the 60% flinch chance you get with Togekiss. I love having a thunder wave on this guy because it makes their chance of attacking at all, but instead I just aim to save togekiss to the later game when Registeel has paralyzed some dudes up for togekiss.
Porygon-Z @ choice specs
adaptability
Modest (+SpA, -Atk) Evs 0-0-4-252-0-252
-tri attack
-hidden power (fighting)
-dark pulse
-ice beam
x2 STAB... tri attack becomes 160 power, with a 60% chance of inflicting a status. The 160 becomes even better when you consider his 606 Special Attack can devastate teams. 31.9% - 37.8% on a typical Blissey with maxed out HP and Def plus the likely status tells people this guy means business. With the excellent tanks on my team I can't imagine a better pokemon for this spot, or for choice specs at all. Ice beam is for dragons, dark pulse is for ghosts that tri attack can't hit :( and HP fighting is for... YES: TYRANITAR!
All 6 of my pokemon are suitable counters for Ttar because everyone uses him. I don't know why he isn't an uber... I also use fighting to counter any other rock pokemon people might use to try to steal my SpD boost. Half of my team is weak vs. fighting, which I hate, but at the same time I think the SpD boost is worth it. Sometimes I have to let a pokemon or two faint in battle (typically Ttar and Swampert) to avoid switching in, but the team has still done well for me. I'm 4-1 with it so far.
Anyway, thanks for reading! This team has such an... unprofessional feel to it, which I really love, but I thought maybe some raters could help it out.
