OU Sun team

After testing and changing a lot of Pokemon this is my final sun team (for now) it has won me many matches and most of my losses were cause of mispredictions and carelessness, I believe it still has room for improvement

Nickname:Amaterasu
Nature:Timid
EV spread: 252 Spd, 252 Sp. atk, 4 Sp. defense
Ability:Drought
Item:Leftovers
Moveset:Fire blast, Solar Beam, HP Ice, Sunny day
First of all is Ninetales which is essential for any sun team, It runs an offensive set and it actually works really well, leftovers increases it's longevity and there aren't much choices besides that anyway, fire blast is immensely powerful under the sun, solar beam 2HKO's most water types and HP Ice is great to damage Dragons that are switching in or the ever popular Landorus and Gliscor which can be really annoying if not dealt with right away, for the fourth move I put sunny day to counter other weather inducers switching in but I haven't had much luck using it, I'm considering switching it with Will-O-Wisp

Nature:Adamant
EV spread:252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Ability:Sheer Force
Item:Choice scarf
Moveset:Flare Blitz, Rock slide, Superpower, U-Turn
Darmanitan was the Pokemon I always considered to be one of the best choices for sun teams, with sheer force, intense sunlight and maximum attack investment, this Pokemon is insanely hard to deal with, I equipped a choice scarf since there's always a faster Pokemon on the opposing team that can easily dispose of Darmanitan, it runs the standard set, Flare Blitz, Rock slide, Superpower and U-Turn for scouting and hitting psychic and dark types hard.

Nature:Bold
EV spread:252 HP, 252 Defense, 4 Speed
Ability:Chlorophyll
Nickname:Mimi
Item:Leftovers
Moveset:Giga drain, Quiver dance, Sleep powder, HP Rock
at first glance Lilligant looks like it doesn't pose much of a threat, but after putting the opponent to sleep and setting up 3-4 Quiver dances it becomes nearly unstoppable, Giga drain is one of it's best options as it restores huge chunks of HP after a couple of boosts, HP Rock provides fantastic coverage hitting most Pokemon that resist grass for supereffective, the reason I chose Lilligant over other chlorophyll users is because it is underestimated and it has access to Quiver Dance.

Nature:Adamant
EV spread:252 Attack, 252 speed, 4 HP
Ability:Moxie
Item:Choice scarf
Moveset:Outrage, Earthquake, Fire fang, Dragon claw
I know it's not really a good idea to have two choice users on the same team, but I found this to work much more effectively than the Dragon Dance set, most of the time Salamence is taken out before setting up or even if it does survive there's always that ice shard ruining the round of setup forcing me to switch out or result in it's demise, the moveset is pretty simple, Outrage for those moments I desperately need it's power, Dragon Claw is for weakened foes to take them out and receive the boost from moxie sweeping the opposing team if it lacks a steel type or if it has been taken out, Earthquake is really useful for taking out opposing fire types and many other dangerous threats, Fire fang for pretty much everything that has a 4x weakness to fire.

232.gif

Nature:Impish
EV spread:252 HP,252 Defense, 4 Attack
Ability:Sturdy
Nickname:BFGoodrich
Item:Leftovers
Moveset:Earthquake, Ice shard, Rapid spin, stealth rock
not much to be said about Donphan, it's running the standard and most effective set, Donphan is much needed to get rid of stealth rock for Ninetales, Darmanitan and Salamence, ice shard is there to take out opposing Dragons
Earthquake for STAB and fantastic coverage, leftovers is the most effective item although I did consider Lum berry as well seeing how much desperate my foes are to cripple Donphan with poison or burn

196.gif

Nature:Timid
EV spread:252 Speed, 252 HP, 4 Defense
Ability:Magic Bounce
Item:Light Clay
Moveset:Psyshock, HP Fire, Reflect, Light screen
Espeon is probably the second most useful member of the team (after Ninetales) as it bounces back entry hazards, status effects and sets up Light screen and Reflect to make it much more easier for Salamence and Darmanitan to switch in and out constantly, moveset is pretty simple, psyshock to take out fighting types easier, HP Fire since it receives a boost from the sun making it more powerful and of course light screen and reflect

Please inform me of any improvements that can be done to my team, thanks for reading my RMT :)

Hi there!

This is a pretty cool Sun team you are trying to use, I especially like the use of Lilligant, an underrated threat, so props to you on using him on this team! However, I see some huge flaws that this team has and my rate will not only iron out those flaws, but it will help this team reach it's full potential. With all that out of the way, let's get to my rate on this team, shall we? First up, I would like to recommend running a spread of 60 Def / 252 SpA / 196 Spe with a Modest Nature on your Lilligant over your current EV spread and Nature. With the aftermentioned EV spread, Lilligant is able to outspeed Scarf Latios with a Chlorophyll boost, neutral base 80s and positive base 70s without a boost, while the Modest Nature gives more power to her moves. Staying on Lilligant, I suggest running a Life Orb over your current choice of Leftovers. With Life Orb, Lilligants moves are boosted to sky high levels, while you can regain the health lost from the recoil with Giga Drain. Moving on with your team, I recommend running 4 Special Attack EV's and a Naive Nature on your Salamence over your current spread and Nature. With a Naive Nature, Salamence doesn't lose any power from it's excellent Special attack, which leads me to my next point, running Fire Blast over Fire Fang. Fire Blast is much better than Fire Fang for a number of reasons. For one, Fire Blast allows you to get a clean 2HKO on Skarmory, while also getting a OHKO on Magnezone, Ferrothorn, and every steel type not named Heatran that may be lurking in the OU metagame. Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope that my advice helped just a little. Have fun and good luck in your future endeavours!

Hey,

original sun team. Your team has a huge dragon weakness. Sun teams in general have a dragon weakness, but you'll have to sack a pokemon every time something like Latios comes in so you can safely bring in Salamence. You also have both a Magic Bouncer and a spinner which in my eyes isn't really necessary. Instead of running Espeon I suggest you use a Dual Screen Cresselia. This way you have something to switch into Draco Meteors and still have dual screen support. It can pretty much tank all dragon hits apart from Choice Band adamant Outrage from Dragonite and revenge with Ice Beam. Just be more careful with saving Donphan if you make this change so you don't end up with Stealth Rocks on the field. Next up, i suggest running choice band on Darmanitan. I don't think running dual scarf is necessary on your team. You have a chlorophyl user in Lilligant and another scarfer in Salamence. I feel like keeping the scarf on Salamence is more important than Darmanitan as your team supports it better for a late game sweep. Choice band Darmanitan is pretty much unstoppable, OHKO'ing pretty much every 'mon in sun (even Latias, which opponents usually unknowingly switch in on an expected Flare Blitz).
The extra power choice band bring can help you get rid of any threat that thinks of switching in.

Now for some smaller changes. You don't want to run such defensive EVs on Lilligant on such an offensive set. Getting up 3-4 Quiver Dances is really rare and you'd rather want to be able to sweep after just one or two. I suggest you run a spread of 176 Spe / 252 Sp Atk / rest HP with a Timid nature as well as a Life Orb instead of Leftovers. This way you can outspeed Venusaur in sun without a Quiver Dance and makes it easier to sweep thanks to its more offensive spread. I wouldn't run offensive Ninetales on this team. Your team, as many other sun teams, is really reliant on sun. The durability of that set is really low and it can be easily trapped by ttar which is free to switch in thanks to a lack of WoW. Solarbeam only barely does half so that won't safe you either. Instead run a set with a spread of 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe with a moveset of Sunny Day / WoW / Flamethrower / Roar. This allows you to outspeed and beat a lot of physical threats, like Dragonite and even beat Dugtrio if you can catch it with a WoW on the switch in. WoW has an awful accuracy so when you don't have to don't rely on it. Those are the things that stand out the most. Hope I helped. Good luck.

~Sets:
Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Moonlight
- Ice Beam / Psychic

hello dude,
good team but I'll propose a vast change for your team.
first of all espeon, for the bouncing is better xatu also thanks to uturn.
still, you do not have a steel, very important not to be outplayed by latios or various other dragons, then you should put Heatran on Darmanitan so as to have a fire anyway.
a sunny needs to pressure the opponent summoner, especially tyranitar, and this is why the entry of Dugtrio is very important, with this you can also trap Heatran so Dugtrio> lillingant
the rest of the team is fine.
other thing you should edit are the evs:
Ninetales: as suggested by eranu 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe with a moveset of Sunny Day / WoW / Flamethrower / Roar
Heatran: 252 SpA / 4 Spd / 252 Spe with magma storm - sunny day - earthpower - solar beam
Dugtrio: focus sash standard
good luck for this team.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I have noticed my team's weakness to Dragon, on the phyisical side I don't worry much thanks to Donphan's bulk but Draco Meteors from Latios are really hard to take without a steel type or at least a specially defensive Pokemon on the team, I'm going to all your suggestions on my team and see how they work :)
