Time is up and ABR and Team 10 have won r1 of the team building competition v6 with 13 votes over You...You... and Team 7 with 11 votes. This was a fun and exciting round and I would like to thank everyone for entering. However, now it is time for r2 :]

Round 2 Core

Politoed(Rain)

politoed.gif

Round 2 is not really a core, but a pokemon. We have not had a rain core(that I know of), so we will be using rain pretty much. The reason we decided on not using a core, was to promote variation. If we were to use a core of lets say politoed + kingdra, then most teams will prob add a physical rain sweeper (kabu or megapert), and a ferrothorn. Pretty much all of the teams will be very similar. By using politoed by it self, the other 5 mons are up to you to use, so the only limit is yourself.

I few thing though. Politoed must be holding damp rock, since I am looking for rain team this round. Some of you might get the idea to try some wierd toed set, and then just run 5 other mons that don't benefit from rain. Heres a tip if you want to win this round. Make your team innovative. Standard rain is solid and good, but I am looking for a different take on rain that is still very solid and good. Anyway gl and hf :]

Round ends Friday, April 19 at 11:59est

What's a rain team without Politoed?! For this toad's set I decided to go with the physically defensive one, as it synergizes best with the rest of the team and helps take less from Tyranitar's pursuit in the case of a weather war. Scald is an obvious choice; Toxic cripples walls; Encore prevents it from being setup fodder; Rest provides longevity. The concept of this team came simply from me wanting to try out Shell Smash Omastar in the rain, as it is the strongest specially-based swift swimmer and after a boost it pretty much runs through any team that lacks strong priority. For example, +2 Hydro Pump in the rain OHKOs standard defensive Rotom-W and Slowbro, and it easily sets up on pokemon such as Talonflame and a bunch of other walls that it scares out. A timid nature fits best here as it outspeeds any scarfer slower than Landorus-Therian and also outspeeds timid Mega Alakazam, which is a massive threat to rain due to the ability to trace swift swim. The next "innovative" pokemon of this team is Cobalion, and it truly is a perfect fit for this team. It sets rocks, counters Bisharp, beats DD Altaria, cripples a ton of other pokemon, and comes in on the Lati twins if Celebi gets too low. It also serves as a check to CM clefable with paraflinching + super effective STAB in general. Next up is Celebi, as the team was looking very weak to Keldeo at this point and a 100% reliable switchin to most water types like Slowbro can never hurt. The subpass set is very useful for pivoting in the sweepers and hard hitters reliably while also allowing them to take advantage of the substitutes. The speed allows Celebi to outspeed max speed Heatran, and the spdef still lets Celebi wall Keldeo, Mega-Alakazam, Manectric, etc. I realized that I still had a mega slot available and the team was lacking strong physical power and a volt switch stopper, so Swampert fit the bill. Power-Up Punch grants Swampert the ability to sweep and break through certain teams easier, and the speed allows it to outspeed scarf Landorus-Therian. Last, but certainly not least, is the almighty Landorus. Landorus provides the necessary wall-breaking presence that this team needed, as rain sweepers alone cannot do the job. This also gives me a ground immunity and a more direct way of handling fairies like CM Clefable with Sludge Wave. HP Ice allows me to beat the problematic Landorus-Therian and also Gliscor, while Rock Slide is used to smack Volcarona, Charizard-Y, and Tornadus-Therian, all large threats to this team otherwise. Overall this is a very fun, effective, and innovative team and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

So this team was built to be a balanced team that still had the sweeping functionality of rain. Nasty Pass Celebi helps a ton with bulky water types like Mega Slowbro and TG Manaphy which can be a real chore for the team to take out otherwise. It also provides a great check to opposing rain offense since it can deal with Mega Swampert really well. Baton Pass provides great momentum and passing Nasty Plots to Tornadus-T under rain is amazing, but it's pretty great to pass to Seismitoad and Politoed as well for mega strong water STAB. Tornadus-T is the fast pivot that checks bulky grass types that also give rain squads trouble, like Mega Venusaur and opposing Celebis and to a lesser extent Ferrothorn. LO because power, AV wasn't really necessary and HP [Ice] is an option over U-turn to bop annoying Garchomps (the person I built this team with has HP [Ice] but I'm all about that U-turn bro). Mega Scizor is amazing on rain teams because its only weakness is lessened greatly and also it serves as a great check to annoying Fairy types, especially Mega Altaria. SD with Superpower for Magnezone (hehe rain boi). Also beats Ferrothorn more easily while handling Bisharp and opposing Scizors more reliably, and Torn-T already provides Knock Off support. It's also the team's primary switch-in to Draco Meteors and whatnot. Politoed is necessary to make a rain team function and went with a Rest set for longevity so that the team can take a more balanced approach and the sweepers can get more chances to come in and threaten opponents if necessary. EVs are for physical bulk to survive +2 Sharp Beak Talonflame's Brave Bird and the speed creeps Adamant Azumarills to Encore them into Belly Drum. Sleep Talk was put as the last move just to kinda troll stuff hoping for Scald or Encore during sleep turns. Seismitoad was added because it could both abuse the rain and be a stop to Volt Switchers which would otherwise be really annoying. Stealth Rocks on it because the team needs rocks and dual STABs with Sludge Wave for coverage on stuff like Celebi. Missing Hydro Pump sucks so went with Scald for that burn chance and reliability. Kabutops was added to help with Talonflame to a degree while giving another sweeper option and Rapid Spin support so that hazard stacking balance cores don't just destroy this team. Aqua Jet for added priority since the team handles Ferrothorn ok already and so that Scarf Terrakion doesn't bop the team late game if Scizor goes down (outspeeds Kabu in rain by 1 pt and has coverage moves for everything bar Scizor).

this pokemon is somehow so uninspiring please have something cool standard politoed set. i added rd mega altaria to cover tyranitar and zards. noticed weakness to ferro so i decided i'd use subcharge magnezone. needed switch-in to keldeo, latias is ez choice, provides HW support and defog - i normally dont use defog on weather teams but i didnt really have any sweepers that can take advantage of tailwind and the like. celebi for rocks and general utility, also checks azu and shit so i dont immediately get 6-0ed. since magnezone traps skarm as well, i figured i'd go with kabutops (rock typing also helps with burd) over omastar/kingdra to clean up.

I thought about how to build just a team around a core of Politoed, and realized that the round OP speaks truth and that Politoed is not a core. So I made it into a ghetto core of Toed+rain sweeper in MSwampert. The reason for choosing Swampert is that it is always a pain in the ass personally for me to deal with. Then I looked up thought about the biggest threats to Swampert, and decided that I want something to handle dedicated physical walls (most importantly, Skarmory and Chesnaught), and fast scarfers (read: scarf Keldeo, Latios). The next thing I see is are weaknesses to opposing rain sweepers and Serperior. Basically, NEWSFLASH Swampert has trouble with stuff that outspeeds it and stuff that walls it. And Mega Venusaur. The former are dealt with by Thundurus, the latter – with Gothitelle. (The unfortunate thing about Gothitelle is that it takes several turns to handle the physical walls, so I will likely have to set up the rain more than once, hence the Rest on Toed). As Goth is here to handle fat mons and not fast mons, I went with bulky Specs. Thundurus has hipster HP Bug because this team absolutely abhors Celebi. And, now that I thought of it, Mega Sceptile, which can’t even be TWaved. And I lacked hazard control. Or hazards of my own. So I slapped Stealth Rock Clefable w/ Magic Guard, as it provides a reliable switch-in against many physical threats, beats MSceptile 1v1, and gives me that neat defensive Fairy typing. I went with Calm Mind because why not, having a secondary wincon is always nice. The things left to cover were birds (Thundurus is a check, but it’s a frail blanket check to just way too much stuff, so it could be easily pressured) and hazard control. As such, Zapdos was a painfully obvious pick… except then the team auto-lost to Bisharp. So I went with Mandibuzz. The EVs are optimized for Mandibuzz to never be 2HKOed by banded Brave Bird from Talonflame. A Lando-I switchin is also something that is very nice to have.

The overall premise of the team is extremely simple: I have tried to cover everything that Mega Swampert in rain can’t handle on its own so that Swampert can sweep mid to late-game with Clefable as a secondary wincon and a bunch of blanket checks for OU things.

Hehe innovation frog squad here. Started out with politoed as the first mon because it's required and can set up rain. Next is his best friend poliwrath which is the teams swift swim abuser. With belly drum, its attack reaches insane levels and he wrecks teams under rain with his powerful dual stabs and ice punch. I really wanted to use mega amphy because it's just such a cool mega and it works really well under rain, and hits really hard too. Amphy also walls thundurus and talonflame which can be pretty annoying for rain. I decided to pair up agility amphy with his partner in crime, nasty plot + sub pass celebi to pass it boosts or a sub. Needed a secondary rain setter in case toed died so went with thundurus as a decent bird check and emergency rain setter. Sub bulk up Taxicrak is a pretty cool mon that can abuse rain with dry skin and is the third frog, decent keld check and beats some mons like ferrothorn, chansey, and non EQ mega gyara etc.

I started out with politoed because I feel it's an extremely underrated pokemon and I thought rain could work really well. I next added ampharos as it's an extremely good pivot in the rain and a good keldeo check. I now needed something for landorus and other ground types so I added in a spdf skarmory as another way to phaze the opposing team around. One of the biggest threats currently was bisharp so I added chesnaght as that also helps with mega gyara. Chansey and tentacruel were both added as a cleric and for a spinner and also toxic spikes is extremely helpful for wearing down the opposing team.

This weeks round was to be built around Politoed so this gave me a ton of room as compared to basic rain cores such as Poli+Rain abuser cores which are good but nothing really new. Starting with Politoed I chose the defensive Politoed as it makes a decent answer vs talon and makes use of Poli's support move in encore which is great for disrupting common leads as well as discourage set up. Next up the best pokemon to fit with Poli had to be the typical rain abuser however instead of going with Omastar or Kingdra I went with Ludicolo who has a pretty decent typing and bulk as well as really good overall coverage. Because of how Ludicolo is being used Ferro didn’t really fit the bill however I needed something that could take a hit. After looking at Pokemon that worked I decided to take a more innovative approach: Sp.def Phazinite. Shout out to BlazeLatias on this set he used in one of his old gen 5 rain teams. Sp.def dnite is pretty fantastic as he gets access to STAB hurricane and thunder in tandem with dragon tail and great bulk making him a very interesting and surprising phazer. Seeing as the team had a phazer I decided to take advantage of that and went with klefki who not only has good defensive synergy with Dnite but can also set up spikes and acts as a secondary rain setter as collateral in case poli goes down early or late game when rain is needed the most. Typically rain teams have more then one abuser and on top of that the team had 0 physical attackers which overall proves to be a issue for obvious reasons. I chose Kabutops for this role as he’s a very scary rain abuser which is crazy hard to switch into. Because we got Dragonite's Multiscale needs to be in tact as much as possible so rapid spin>swords dance in this situation naturally i went with double stabs with priority. In the last slot I had no mega and no hazard setter and while rocks are mandatory on any good team megas are not. Despite this Mega Pert With stealth rocks was chosen in the last slot boasting massive attack and great bulk allowing rocks to be set up fairly easy , (mostly as pert can cause a ton of switches) due to having rocks ice or fighting coverage had to be dropped Fighting coverage was dropped as without ice coverage pert gets walled less than running fighting coverage would. When using this team make sure to keep mega pert healthy vs all electric types bar ones Ludicolo can handle as Ludicolo is important for removing Rotom-W. With that said enjoy this team.

so heres my non standard rain i made. its based on sweeping with either thundy t or mega latias. funny thing is is that i have no sr on this team because i didnt like any of the setters and wanted to use other stuff instead. i do have spikes tho so i can break fat teams easier. played with this team and realized rox arent needed. anyways, the whole premise of this team to to sweep with either thundy or latias. torn and kingdra are there to wallbreak. toed is toed. i chose physdef because bulk is everything. toxic + encore + scald are standard move for it, while ice beam is to do a nice 30% to the grasses that wanna switch in. torn is my wallbreaker. its pretty standard with lo + hurricane + super + u turn to momentumz. i have sludge wave tho because fairies are fucking annoying for this team to bopping them is rly nice =].

216 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-T Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 96+ SpD Clefable: 208-247 (52.7 - 62.6%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

216 SpA Life Orb Tornadus-T Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Altaria: 224-265 (63.2 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

hurricane does not guarantee 2hkoes on either of these.

moving on, thundy has the old bw agility set and im using lefties over lo because they help more than lo, and having that extra recovery during turns when im spamming thunder adds up. im using timid because i need the speed more than i need the power. also gr8 to prevent thundy from spamming t wave vs me. klefki gives me spikes and a secondary rain setter, and paras things that would otherwise rek me such as gross or mega garde. fairy lock is actually rly useful as it lets me get a free set up vs a choice locked lando t or something that thundy or latias can set up on. speaking of latias, she is used so that keldeo doesnt murder me, and an offensive cm set is rly powerful late game. thunder is used because rain + it means that azu loses to me. dragon pulse > draco because i dont want the spatk drop or chance of missing. finally, i have kingdra, which is the best swimmer and works way better than tops or star would. its modest lo because i didnt need the mixed set and i rly wanted a way to lure in and kill celebi with signal beam. surf and hydro are for max power and accuracy, + scald is rly gay anyways and burns dont do much for me. draco is a nuke that lets me weaken things for thundy / latias.

id post replays but it would reveal who i am. if you wanna see them tho then just ask in the thread once its up :o

All right, so I wanted to use a mega that isn’t often seen on rain teams. I opted for Mega-Ampharos because of its fun typing and fabulous hair, and that inspired me to create a bulky Volt-Turn rain team. I picked a specially defensive set for Amphy with enough investment to avoid 2HKOs from threats like Zard Y. Volt Switch and Dragon Pulse are standard STABs, but I chose Thunder because of its perfect accuracy under rain and Heal Bell so M-Amphy can be half of a cleric. I needed the second half of my cleric duo, so I added Sylveon with Wish and Baton Pass. Wish and Baton Pass allow Sylveon to keep M-Amphy and the rest of the team healthy. The spread avoids the 2HKO from LO Latios’s Psyshock, and Pixilate Hyper Voice still hits hard even without investment. Next, I needed a reliable Stealth Rocker that could handle physical attackers – I chose bulky Lando-T because it also has access to U-Turn to act as a pivot, forming a Volt-Turn core with M-Amphy. I desperately needed a Fairy check, so I added Defog/U-Turn Scizor to the team, who helps keep hazards off the field while still being able to pivot. I couldn’t not abuse a Swift Swim pokemon, but I needed something that could handle the ground types that give M-Amphy trouble. I opted for Ludicolo, who is generally outclassed as a rain sweeper, but it works really well on this team as a late game cleaner because it has access to outstanding coverage. Ludicolo runs Scald instead of Hydro Pump for its burn chance, and the Assault Vest (what is this, doubles?) allows Ludicolo to tank attacks like LO Latios Draco Meteor. Lastly, it wouldn’t be a rain team without Politoed – I run the standard specially defensive set with enough speed investment to lock Azumarill into Belly Drum with Encore. Overall, this is a fun team to use because it makes it easy to keep momentum on your side while utilizing some pokemon with good defensive synergy and some pokemon not usually seen on rain teams.

While the rain + swift swimmers route looked appealing, I decided against it and took a 'rain balance' approach. Mega Scizor and Volcarona form the offensive core of the team: M-Sciz's 4x weakness to fire becomes manageable under rain letting it set up a bit easier, while Volcarona, with a special rain based moveset, beats a lot of its as well as Scizor's checks and counters. Decided SD U-Turn on Scizor was the way to go for escaping Magnezone and for momentum. Next, I went double dragon (Chomp and Lati) for the purpose of setting hazards and removing them. Latios carries Surf to dents stuff like Metagross, Heatran and Scizor with the help of rain; Endure Chomp helps vs some threats like Bisharp and DD Mega Gyarados. Finally, Gastrodon protects the team from getting steamrolled by powerful water attacks (potentially rain boosted at that), spreads status, and stops most electrics in their tracks. Yep, that's the team :]

I wanted to build with Politoed + Mega Swampert + Klefki, so I first tried to define the sets for each mon, choosing a standard physically deffensive with Rest for Politoed, standard offensive with Stealth Rock for Mega Swampert and Magnet Rise + Safeguard with Rain Dance for Klefki (to deal with Lando-I and Sableye). Then I put LO Kingdra and Thundurus to have another rain sweeper, beat oppossing rain and have extra pressure over bulky grass and water pokémon. After that I needed a check for common rain threats such as Bisharp, Keldeo, Azumarill and Ferrothorn, so I finally added Toxicroak to the team as it can handle all the mentioned pokémon and complement the team with extra offensive pressure.

Its a pretty standard rain team, with a few differences. I run spdef politoed, so I can handle common special attackers in ou and toxic them. Perish Song is nice, if I happen to play a baton pass team, or a team with a setup sweeper that defeats garchomp. Encore is also helpful against set up sweepers and rock leads. Standard specs kingdra, but with signal beam because celebi is really annoying for this team to handle. I added rocky helmet chomp next, for rocks and to take on bisharp, mega meta, and powerful ou physical attackers. I went with the endure set, because rain weakened fblast and I didn't find toxic that helpful. Endure also helps weaken physical mons, making them easier to revenge. I added banded scizor to check fairies just in case ferrothorn gets weaken or trapped. Ferrothorn is another fairy check and a opposing rain check. It also has access to spikes, which can be helpful for wearing down teams. I used mega latias as last mon, because I didn't have a mega or a keldeo counter and mega latias fit that bill perfectly. The set I run allows me to destroy stall and balance lacking dark types, which can be really trouble to face. I hope you enjoyed :]

Rain team I built that aims to take advantage of rain's biggest weaknesses. HP Fighting Latias limits Tyranitar's ability to switch in and change weather whenever it likes, while also being an effective Bisharp lure and solid Keldeo check. Latias is also an excellent user of Healing Wish, being able to restore one of the two rain sweepers to full health. Omastar is excellent in being able to break down rain checks like Ferrothorn with ease, as well as being a reliable counter to the ever present stallbreaker Talonflame; Omastar's physical bulk is borderline incredible. Politoed's spread is specifically designed to OHKO YZard and be difficult to switch into, spreading status in the process similarly to SpDef Heatran. Offensive Zor is helped by support from HW Latias and is arguably one of the best balance breakers in the game, being able to set up on numerous annoying mons such as Celebi and plough through unprepared teams. Seis is practically a rain staple at this point, with its impressive ability to wall non-GK Thundurus and getting rocks on numerous helpless electric-types. It also revenge kills +1 Adamant XZard. Lastly, Tornadus-Therian ploughs through cores that may usually give rain teams issues, such as SpDef Celebi + Keldeo. Definitely underrated, with balance teams falling under the insane coverage and power that Life Orb Mixed Torn-T has to offer. Used this team to get reqs in 50 games c:

Also when posting replays make sure your smogon name is not in there. The entire point of sending me your team is so people don't know who you are to avoid bandwagoning(even though some of you tell everyone which team is yours)This is directed -Clone- cause his replays has his smogon name is. Try to avoid this in the future.

round ends sunday, april 19th at 11:59 est.

Also I vote for Team 10
