[OU] The power of the vire

Hey everyone. This is my 1st RMT here.I've played comp Pokemon for a while, then stopped and now I'm returning to play.I'm still adapting to a non-Latias and non-Salamence metagame,so I'm still think that putting steels is the solution to every team.Sorry if I didn't give detailed descriptions about the team,my english is something bad because English isn't my native language.

After reading many warstories and seeing Choice Scarf Flygon repeatdly sweeping in late game,I thought on using a gimmick set of Electivire to turn the tables and see how he can be useful.

The theme of the team.Electivire have probably the best coverage type in the game, being a beast in late game that can sweep offensive teams.

I need then something that lures electric attacks.Gyarados FTW

485.png

Resisting Toxic,will-o-wisp,Heatran absorb fire attacks and can kill Rotom and Zapdos, pokes that give trouble to Gyarados and Electivire.

143.png

My team is pretty weak to LO Starmie,so I need Snorlax to counter it.I'm using a all-attacking set with Chople Berry to bluff a CB and destroy things that think I'm locked on Pursuit just to kill them afterwards.Chople Berry also allows me to kill Infernape, who can also be a threat to the team.

260.png

I needed a pokemon that setups SR.For me,it is better delaying the SR than having a poke which has the sole purpose of setuping it on the first turn and stopping opponents of doing so.Swampert adds bulk to the team, can phaze, scout and deal residual damage with Roar.

376.png

My favorite lead.Metagross only loses to Shuca Berry Heatran, physical walls and Infernape.

Here is the team building process. Now,presenting the stars of the show:

metagross.png

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 236 HP/236 Atk/20 Def/16 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk,-SpA)
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Attacking lead Metagross is one of the best leads in the game.It can win Azelf,Aerodactyl,Infernape,Machamp, the most commons lead out there.EVs are there to always win Speed tie against other Metagross.THis metagross usually severely hurts a poke than explode on the switch, making the game 5-4 to me,with my opponent usually having SR.

swampert.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 240 HP/216 Def/52 SDef
Nature: Relaxed (+Def,-Spe)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

I prefer to have something bulky with phaze to setup SR than using a suicide lead.Swampert is here on the team to add physical bulk and switch enemy pokes with Roar, dealing SR damage on the process.

snorlax.png

Snorlax @ Chople Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 Sdef/
Nature: Careful (+SDef,-SpA)
- Earthquake
- Return/Selfdestruct
- Pursuit
- Thunderpunch

The special bulk of the team.Snorlax instead of Blissey because Blissey's lack of attack gives the momentum to the opponent and because Snorlax can Pursuit.LO Starmie is a big threat to the rest of the team, and here it comes Snorlax to kill it with Pursuit. Not seeing the leftovers recovery and seeing Pursuit, people will assume it is banded and will try to setup on it,while I change the move and KO them.Chople Berry is here instead of Expert Belt because MixApe could sweep my team. With Chople Berry,Snorlax have 0% of chance of dying to a +0 Close Combat of a Infernape, while OHKO with EQ.Although Return may seem powerful with its 102 base attack,it can't hit nothing super effectively and fail to KO most pokes,so Selfdestruck could be an option.

heatran.png

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe,-Atk)
- Flamethrower
- HP Electric
- Earth Power
- Taunt/Toxic/Will-o-wisp

This slot was before from MixApe,but I've seen that it is stupid putting a Mixed attacker when there are no special attackers beside him.Heatran can absorb many more attacks, use a stronger Flamethrower and revenge kill with Scarf.Heatran is here because I've realised that he is much better to kill Rotom or Zapdos, pokes that I had problems with.Since I have no other special attacks beside Ice Beam from Swampert, there is no need of sacrifing it to kill a special wall,so Toxic/Taunt/Will-o-wisp is better.

gyarados.png

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP/72 Atk/96 Def/184 Sdef/
Nature: Adamant (+Atk,-SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Bounce
- Waterfall
- Taunt

Gyarados is here to lure electric attacks and to do the mid-game sweeping along with Infernape.People usually put Scarf Flygon against Heatran, but Gyarados cuts its attack and is immune to EQ,so he can easily set-up.Since the team seems more bulky offense oriented, bulky gyarados seems to fit better. It is also a valuable poke against stall, because of the set-up ability+taunt.
electivire.png

Electivire @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Motor Drive
EVs: 252 Atk/32 Def/224 Spe
Nature: Jolly (+Spe,- SAtk)
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch
Late game sweeper.People put something to kill Gyarados with a electric attack and then Electivire shows up to absorb and threaten almost all pokes with its movepool of hitting super effective the majority of the metagame. The gimmicky is in the fact of putting Shuca Berry to Electivire take a EQ,survive and continue sweeping.EVs given make him faster than Adamant Flygon,Jolly Lucario and Jolly Gliscor(with 216 or 220 EVs on Speed).

Main threats that I think that can cause problems are DDnite, who can easily setup in Heatran, and LO Starmie if Snorlax dies, something that isn't hard considering he hasn't any way to cure itself.

Hope you can give good advice for improving the team.

I think you need a Heatran perferbly scarfed as you have no revenge killers. It takes care Shaymin, Rotom, Zapdos that are not subroosting ones, infernapes, and starmie to an extent with hp elec or grass.

You are oh so weak to any variant of Rotom-A, really, so I would suggest making Gyarados a Rotom-A lure Choice Band set. Test this set out and you will easily OHKO non defensive Rotoms without Stealth Rock and still smack 252/120 versions for a OHKO after SR all the time on the switch in. Starmie also falls victim to this set, as Gyarados lures in Starmie very easily so you can OHKO it with Payback on the switch.

choice-banditem.png

Nature: Adamant... +Attack, -Special Attack
EVs: 68 HP / 252 Attack / 188 Speed
Waterfall / Payback / Earthquake / Stone Edge

The Speed EVs are for outspeeding 32 Speed Celebi, Jirachi, Zapdos, and all of the other Pokémon who run just enough Speed EVs to outpace max Speed Tyranitar (this set rests at 245 Speed if you wanted to know for whatever reason). The moves are fairly obvious, but Waterfall for STAB, Payback for purposes mentioned above, EQ to hit Steels and prevent things like Magnezone from switching in too readily, and Stone Edge is for Dragonite, other Gyarados, to form the Ground-Rock combo, and to provide goo coverage in general. You mentioned that you have problems with Shaymin, well, if you find that Shaymin switches in on Gyarados a lot when you are battling, then feel free to replace Stone Edge or EQ for Ice Fang to snag a 2HKO when they switch in (the more offensive variants, not defensive).

You really lack a way to properly deal with opposing bulky Water Pokémon. I would advise giving Stealth Rock to Metagross (replace EQ with it, as Heatran is the main reason for having that move, but it beats you with a Shuca Berry anyways) and then replace your Swampert, whose main purpose is to lay down SR anyways, with a defensive Shaymin. You could use a Celebi, but the fact is, you don't want to make yourself weaker to Tyranitar than you already are. This is the Shaymin set I run and it is quite effective.

492.png
leftoversitem.png

Nature: Calm... +Special Defense, -Attack
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Special Defense / 180 Speed
Leech Seed / Substitute / Seed Flare / HP [Ice]

The analysis on site recommends Modest with 76 Special Attack EVs, but since this should be your first switch to things like Starmie and Suicune, I recommend a more defensive spread. HP [Ice] is probably the best option for your team, because you really want to minimize Dragonite's chances of switching in, and to a lesser extent, Gliscor. None of your Pokémon like taking repeated Outrages, Draco Meteors etc... and besides Gyarados, nothing can switch in to Gliscor easily. Therefore, I think HP [Ice] is your best best here.

Lastly, I recommend making the last move on
485.png
<--- this guy Explosion instead of your current Toxic/Will-O-Wisp etc... Reason being is that status moves on choice Pokémon is generally not very smart, and Heatran has better options for that slot than status moves. Since Heatran has a Choice Scarf, Explosion will be the perfect move to take down random things threatening to you or when you are low on HP. If you choose to do this, change Heatran's nature to Naive. Also, Scarfed Trans really only need 188 Speed to outpace +1 Adamant Gyarados and OHKO with HP [Electric]. I myself would never stay in on another Scarfed Heatran when I know I could just switch to Gyarados to avoid the Earth Power, or even Shaymin and start setting up Subs and Leech Seeding things. Therefore, I think the proper EV spread in this situation should be 64 HP / 252 SpA / 188 Spe

Good luck =D
