OU Wifi ATLAS Team!

Hi this is my third RTM and I come with this new team that worked brilliantly for me in many WIFI battles and I hope you like it:

Team At a glance:

A Closer Look:

pl_30_gyarados_g.jpg

Gyarados (KRAKEN) @Lum Berry
lum-berry.png

Intimidate / Adamant (+Atk -SpA)
156HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184Spe
-Taunt
-Dragon Dance
-Waterfall
-Stone Edge

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gyarados is a massive threat who one should be prepared for. A high base 125 Attack, an excellent offensive typing in Water, and a diverse movepool all make Gyarados a top-tier sweeper. Gyarados is also easy to switch in, and can even serve defensive roles, thanks to 95 / 79 / 100 base defensive stats, Intimidate, and key resistances to Water, Fighting, Bug, Fire, and Steel, plus an immunity to Ground.
Bulky Gyarados leads can eliminate many of the metagame and sometimes she can get 1 or 2 Dragon Dances and start to sweep. Taunt helps against many defensive leads:
Uxie, Swampert, Skarmory, Bronzong, Forretress, etc.

Also with some offensive and Infernape, Azelf and Aerodactyl.
Waterfall is for STAB and has 30% chance that the opponent gets flinched.
Stone Edge is for more coverage and 30% of getting a critical hit.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

la_6_heatran.jpg

Heatran (POKERFACE) @Leftovers
Leftovers%5B1%5D.png

Flash Fire / Timid (+Spe-Atk)
4HP/ 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Substitute
-Toxic
-Fire Blast
-Earth Power

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the ability to counter some of the biggest threats in the game and neutrality to Stealth Rock, he is far beyond the level of any other Fire-type in Pokemon. The secondary Steel-typing gives him a lot of good resistances, and Flash Fire allows him to take on his fellow Fire-types quite easily.
Heatran OU is king right now for his excellent type and the variables sets you can use. It has a great synergy with Gyarados. That’s the reason I decided to include in the team.
I chose the substitute set to predict the switch and hit hard whatever comes. Toxic use it for the Bulky Waters ruining much of the set. Fire Blast for STAB and Earth Power for more coverage.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

md_22_infernape.jpg

Infernape (JAIMICO) @Life orb
life-orb.png

Blaze / Naive (+Spe-SpDef)
252 Atk / 64 SpA / 192 Spe
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-Mach Punch
-Overheat

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Infernape's high Speed and offensive stats make it a perfect sweeper, as it can outpace a large portion of the metagame and utilize its large movepool effectively. Life Orb makes Infernape a powerful sweeper, turning many 2HKOs into OHKOs.
What can I say about Infernape, Great STAB moves and excellent Coverage Makes him the perfect stall break pokemon.
Close Combat ends with Blissey, Heatran, Lucario, etc, just a long list of Pokemon that are very common in the metagame. Overheat kills Skarmory, Celebi, Scizor, Bronzong, Etc. Stone Edge is for More Coverage against the Flying types and to a decent damage to Gyarados. Mach Punch is my priority move and it really helps a lot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

sf_18_gengar.jpg

Gengar (CASPER) @Life Orb
life-orb.png

Levitate / Timid (+Spe-Atk)
4HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Substitute
-Pain Split
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
With the release of HeartGold and SoulSilver came a new toy for Gengar to play with: Pain Split. By utilizing a combination of Substitute and Pain Split, Gengar becomes nearly impossible to wall, even by Blissey. Pain Split also allows Gengar to safely run Substitute and Life Orb at the same time, all the while taking damage from sandstorm and hail; in fact, taking so much residual damage only increases the amount of HP that Gengar sucks away from its opponents. Gengar is also notorious for its ability to sweep, with its massive Special Attack stat and 110 base Speed.
Subsplit set. With substitute it’s easier to guess whatever it comes to field. Shadow Ball and Focus Blast for perfect coverage and pain split to deal with blissey.
With great speed and SpA. He can outspeed many metagame pokemon and KO easily.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

sf_51_skarmory.jpg

Skarmory (METALLICA)@Leftovers
Leftovers%5B1%5D.png

Keen Eye / Impish (+Def -SpDef)
252 Hp /64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe
-Stealth Rock
-Roost
-Brave Bird
-Whirlwind
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is Skarmory's trademark set, known for providing excellent support and walling an astounding number of physical sweepers, such as Gyarados and Metagross. With Brave Bird, Skarmory can take a decent chunk out of anyone who doesn't resist it. Roost removes any damage Skarmory may have taken. As a bonus, it also removes Skarmory's Flying-type for the turn so he takes less damage from Rock-, Ice-, and Electric-type attacks.
Skarmory is one of the best physical barriers in the game he can take any number of attacks and 2KO with Brave Bird to any fragile pokemon.
Roost to recover half the hp. Stealth Rock for indirect damage.
Whirlwind to do more damage to the rocks and to prevent any sweeper to set up.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

mt_5_blissey.jpg

Blissey (DORISMAR) @Leftovers
Leftovers%5B1%5D.png

Natural Cure / Bold (+Def - Atk)
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
-Thunder Wave
-Soft boiled
-Calm Mind
-Ice Beam
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no better special wall in the game than Blissey. Snorlax lacks instant recovery moves and Cresselia has unreliable recovery in Moonlight due to the prevalence of sandstorm in the OU metagame. Blissey's enormous base 255 HP and large base 135 Special Defense stats just scream special wall. This, coupled with recovery in either Softboiled or Wish and Protect, makes Blissey impossible to OHKO with a special move without prior set-up.
SkarmBliss looks old and repeated but never ceases to be effective.
But this is different from the typical Blissey set. Calm mind to prevent some sweepers finished with Blissey and begin to sweep my team, as well as Suicune, Raikou and nasty plot users. Ice Beam for the typical Flygon that is 1KO after a calm mind. Thunder wave to make it easier to sweep and paralyze any physical attacker and switch to Skarmory.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So this is the team I hope you liked.

Notable Threads:

-Starmie: Starmie destroys my entire team when Blissey is down.
Thunderbolt gives 1ko to Gyarados and Skarmory 2ko to. Surf 1ko Gengar and Infernape.
The only thing I can do is to use calm mind Blissey and try to kill him with it.

-Gyarados: After a DD also kills my team, but what I can do is throw my Gyarados and seek 1ko with stone edge.

I can't really see any shared weakness, except for Jolteon, it 2HKOs/OHKOs every member of this team with a Specs'd Thunderbolt except for Blissey, basically any mixed attacker threatens this team as well, Dragonite, for example, can Earthquake your Heatran and Infernape, Superpower your Blissey and Fire Blast your Skarmory while the rest is taken care of with Draco Meteor, though Infernape can revenge-kill with Stone Edge, it's not always reliable.

You said Starmie and Gyarados give you trouble.. that can be fixed with Scarf Flygon.

Scarf Flygon also revenges +1 Dragonite and all versions of Jolteon except Agility and Scarf ones if those ever existed.

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Jolly
252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spe
- Outrage
- U-Turn
- Earthquake
- ThunderPunch

Flygon can revenge +1 Dragonite using Outrage, can scout teams using U-turn, and can revenge Jolteon, Gyarados and Starmie with Earthquake and ThunderPunch. Flygon can replace Gengar, you don't really need SubSplit Gengar because you already have Infernape as your stall breaker.

Edit: Pssht forgot all about spinblocking.. but Gengar can't spinblock Starmie anyway, as Starmie outspeeds and OHKOs with Psychic/Surf assuming SR is in play.

Your team also lacks spikes [it's not necessary on evey team, but its necessary for yours because your sweepers depend on power and don't have a stat boosting move, well except for gyarados] which turns a lot of 2HKOs into OHKOs, you can put Heatran in the lead position, with a moveset of Stealth Rock | Fire Blast | Earth Power | Explosion, Naive, 252 Spe / 4 HP / 252 Atk @ Shuca Berry / Life Orb and give Spikes to Skarmory over SR.

change gyara's position and also give spikes to skarm and give sr to bliss or tran or ape
make another poke ur lead gyara wont be doing much there. i also recommend a scarfed poke. maybe make infernape or gengar scarfed. then gengar can handle both +1 gyara and starmie. get rid of the atk ev's on skarm there usless imo.

Hi, got your pm

As the above posters have stated, Gyara does OK as a lead, but works best out of the lead position, if you were to switch Heatran to the lead spot, which I second from Arikado, then Taunt Gyara would be able to set up on Swampert leads, which Heatran have trouble with. Then you'd be able to gives spikes to Skarmory.... ok, just do what Arikado says, he (/she) knows best. I'd also change Blisseys set, as Ice Beam's main target is pshyical attacker, which she should not stay in on. Perhaps change it to a wish Bliss to provide support for your sweepers who have no way of healing (bar Skarm, but he's a supporter) Use the movest Wish, Protect, Status move, Seismic Toss/Ice Beam/Flamethrower, with your current EVs (If you choose S-Toss put 4 evs in speed instead).

P.S. I'd also not replace Gengar for Scarf Flygon, as then you'd lack a spinblocker, but I don't know who to replace instead

hey i got your pm.

I'll be honest with you, it's been a LONG time since I played on wifi. I mainly play on PO, and the metagame is actually pretty different. One thing I do know is that you should pack Spikes on Skarmory. This really helps Gyarados and Infernape in sweeping. You also have a spinblocker in Gengar, which is great. TBH, I think that Blissey set sucks. Once something with CC or Superpower comes in, you can kiss your boosts goodbye. Therefore, Blissey can definetly be replaced. If you go with Spikes on Skarmory, then Starmie becomes an even bigger threat because of Rapid Spin. So that will have to be removed from play. I recommend you replace Blissey with a CB Snorlax packing Pursuit. You keep an excellent special wall, and he can put Starmie in a checkmate position. You also should take Gyarados out of the lead position, since it sucks against a lot of common ones. Mabye put Heatran/Infernape there and give them SR? Your team also has a lot of trouble with bulky waters, since Gyara and your fires are walled. This can be remedied by making Infernape specially bases and giving him Grass Knot, or Heatran Explosion. Nice team, and hope I helped :)

Hey I got the message, I agree with most of the suggestions above me, except of replacing Blissey, I think keeping her would be better and replacing her set- you obviously can't use WishBliss, but perhaps Aromatherapy or even shoving stealth rock on it- I don't care honestly, I just don't think CM Blissey is anything special. But yeah, heatran would work very well in the lead slot, I don't think Skarm is that good a lead on wifi. By the way, since Heatran or Blissey could now run Sr, please switch Skarmory to the spikes variant, it's just much better and the hazards are lovely, especially considering you have a blocker.

Anyways one thing I notice about the team is the weakness to electric and rock type attacks, with no resists yet 2 and 1 weaknesses, respectively. Blissey is your main stop to a startling amount of special threats, but mixed threats are a terror, especially things like MixNite. I'm not really a fan of having both Infernape and Heatran on the same team, as I view them as sort of redundant, what with them both being fir type stall breakers and what have you. Infernape, therefore, I think would be better replaced by Scarf Flygon, just as Arikado suggested- except over Infernape.

However, I agree with him in that Gengar solves no starmie problems. This bitch is only stopped by Blissey, and otherwise she tears the team to shreds- not to mention that, if you do switch in Blissey, she spin away your lovely hazards. SubSplit Gengar is in the same boat, except it actually beats Blissey- Skarmory is your best bet, and without a special defensive spread, his survival is unlikely. Thus I am going to suggest a slightly odd set, but bear with me.

Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/30 Def/228 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Will-o-wisp
- Pursuit
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

This was stolen from this team, and, having tested it personally, I can assure you it is great for patching up gengar and Starmie. He can take most of their attacks (and block Starmie's spin) and just pursuit them to death, resting if needed. Will o wisp comes in handy for a myriad of purposes, and obviously having no weaknesses is a plus- read his description too, it's a good set.

That's all the advice I got, cool team. Hope this helps.

The first challenge I see for your team is a lack of goal-- you don't really have a game plan as to exactly how you want to defeat the enemy. This combined with the weaknesses to Gyarados/Starmie leads me to believe that Scarf Flygon would indeed be a very good member for this team-- most likely over Infernape. Flygon's excellent resistances and STAB would maintain offensive prowess and speed while getting rid of some of the repetitiveness with Heatran.

Flygon, also by simply being on a team, gives it a gameplan-- wear down the enemy for a Flygon sweep. Simply by getting rid of a a set of enemy resistances (Dragon OR Ground) or by wearing the remaining enemies down into Outrage-kill range, makes for a simple and straight-forward Flygon sweep.

Getting SR in elsewhere and Spikes on Skarm would also be a huge help to Flygon, or even to Infernape should you decide to keep it. You already have a ghost that can serve as a spin-blocker if necessary, so I see this as an even more ideal addition.

Next, especially should you use Flygon, I would suggest trying Tyranitar over Blissey. Tyranitar gives a more permanent solution to problem pokemon like Starmie or Gengar. Sand is also a huge blessing for more offensively-oriented teams, preventing leftovers from ruining your hard-earned damage.

Last, consider replacing Gyarados. Gyarados is certainly a powerful and interesting lead, but without priority or SR, it is lacking in flexibility to deal with many opposing leads. Still, if you had Spikes Skarm to abuse enemy Metagross/Jirachi, and Tyranitar to destroy Azelf, I still see Gyarados being very effective. You might want to consider other hard-hitting water type anti-leads though such as Empoleon, Starmie or Blastoise, who can bring priority or spinning into the equation in addition to hard-hitting water attacks.

What do u think about Choice Scarf Gengar:
Shadow Ball gives Gengar its requisite STAB attack and allows it to revenge threats such as Scarf Rotom-A, Azelf, and Starmie. Focus Blast is primarily useful for Tyranitar and Heatran, but can deal decent damage to Snorlax in a pinch. Thunderbolt turns Gengar into a great revenge killer for Dragon Dance Gyarados.

Choice scarf Gengar kills +1 Gyarados and prevents Starmie to rapid spin and finish it with shadow ball. So they will not be problematic for this team.

Hi, I got your PM, despite me not really team rating lately, I'll do it anyway.

First thing that stuck out was the Lead Gyarados which I really don't agree with. In my opinion, Tauntrados does best late game after its counters have been weakened and/or eliminated. It doesn't really succeed in doing much in the lead position in my opinion. It beats a couple of leads but I think that moving Skarmory to the front would do more for you in being able to get up Stealth Rock against certain leads or PHaze out others.

Specs Jolteon and Specs Heatran give this team mad loads of trouble as well. So does Specs Shaymin, basically any strong special attacker with Choice Specs is going to be troublesome for you, and Blissey can only take so many hits. Since you have Blissey though, I suppose there isn't many other options to protect against them, just something you should look out for. Oh, Specs Kingdra too.

I'm not crazy about Calm Mind Blissey, I would probably drop Calm Mind for Toxic or Seismic Toss or something along those lines. Wish could also be useful but I think that Wish + Softboiled is dumb.

I would consider running Thunderpunch on Infernape to hit Starmie on the Switch and/or Tentacruel as well as OHKOing Gyarados.

I would also like to suggest the previous suggestion to replace Gengar with Scarf Flygon. You lose out on a Spin Blocker, but all you are laying down is Stealth Rock which isn't that big of a deal if you lose it. Scarf Flygon also helps you handle DDGyara better and other things like Starmie, as the previous poster stated.

Thats all I got, good luck and I hope my changes help. :toast:

Hey, just got your PM

I like your Bulky Gyra lead though I do think while it is good the bulkiness and the Taunt part of i can both be out classed by other leads such as Aerodactyl or Swampert.

For your Infernape I would suggest you amp up the Spa a little more over the Atk and switch the Stone Edge for Grass Knot.
If you put 116 EV's into Spa instead of 64 then it would do 70.5% - 83.3% damage to a Standard Physical Wall Hippowdon with Grass Knot.

I also like your Heatran, I've used one like that and although it's creative and somewhat helpful I think you should just switch him to your lead and swap it with Gyra.

You should put Spikes on Skarmory instead of SR since your team wouldn't do well against a rock resistant team.

You're Blissey and Gengar are also good.

Conclusion: Good synergy with the team though I think you should take my advice with my comments and no, you should not put Scarf on Gengar. Also Maybe switch Infernape with Lucario since him and Gengar have good Synergy.

Hope I helped! :)

Problems

  • 419_2_0.png
    392_2_0.png
    LO Starmie / SubSplit Gengar
I'm going to address these two together because they are both fast special swepers that are problematic for your team.

Starmie is rather difficult to play around. It certainly isn't going to sweep you clean as long as you have Blissey around, but even Blissey's survival isn't guaranteed if Starmie is paired with a lure carrying Explosion such as Heatran. However, the main reason it is such a threat is because it is able to simultaneously function as both as Rapid Spinner and a dangerous sweeper. This means that you'll have to play very carefully around it to avoid getting your entry hazards removed, but this is rather difficult when your spinblocker is OHKO'd by a LO Hydro Pump.

Opposing Gengar are also very potent threats. They can safely check and set up on Infernape, and proceed to wreak havoc upon your team. Blissey can wall it, although Substitute and Pain Split will be annoyances, but the fact that it runs Ice Beam as its sole attack means that it doesn't have a reliable way of dealing damage to foes that resist Ice. Every other team member is 2HKO'd by one of Gengar's moves, so it is rather similar to Starmie in that regard.

Suggestions

Well, I'm going to begin by seconding some of the rates above mine. That Spiritomb set from Ladybug's RMT looks good, and would certainly function better than Gengar as a spinblocker for a stall team. I actually don't feel that Gyarados is a terrible lead, however, as it actually puts some common leads in awkward positions, and therfore doesn't perform too badly in terms of lead matchups. With that in mind, Gyarados really appreciates the additional recovery granted by Leftovers, so I'd advise you to use them over Lum Berry. While this leaves you more open to status-inducing leads, Machamp is fortunately becoming less and less common as more players adapt to it and my next suggestion should take care of any sleep users.

  • Change Heatran's set
Here's the situation: you currently have the SkarmBliss core for solid defense and entry hazards (Skarmory really should have Spikes on its moveset, though, preferrably over Brave Bird), along with a spinblocker to protect from Rapid Spin. However, you don't have a phazer of any kind, which is almost necessary on entry hazard-abusing teams to force your opponent to accumulate more residual damage. Therefore, I'd like to recommend altering Heatran's set by going with a more defensive RestTalk set with Roar:

490.png

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 128 Spe / 132 SpD
Calm nature (+SpD, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Roar
With a Calm nature and the given EVs, Heatran gains a huge amount of special bulk. It can easily take neutral and resisted special attacks, and even weaker super-effective attacks like Vaporeon's Surf without too much trouble. To give you an idea of how bulky it is, this Heatran isn't even 3HKO'd by Thunderbolt from either Rotom-A or Zapdos. Its two main advantages over your current set are Roar, which allows you to force switches, phaze, and abuse your entry hazards, and Rest, which turns Heatran into a very reliable sleep and status absorber. Having used this set, I can certainly attest to its effectiveness, and I think that it will be a much better fit for your team than your current Heatran is.

Good luck with your team!

cool solid team.
but here's a problem, many of your pokemon are plague by TAUNT. speacily a taunt gyarados set would cause you so much trouble.

Cool team jesusmora! As weird as your team looks at a glance, I like it and seems to be effective with its unique twist. Many people would look at your team and be like "what a n00b SkarmBliss and four sweepers", but "na" this is legit. Lead Gyarados is an underrated beast together with double FIRE. I think with a couple of simple changes your team will B0SS!

I want to start off by mentioning notable threats, including setup and immediate sweepers. The three most destructive setup sweepers are DD Taunt Gyarados, Agility Metagross, DD Tyranitar, SubRoost Zapdos with DD Kingdra and DD Dragonite being to a lesser extent (play around them carefully; keep Skarmory alive!). The immediate threats are Gengar and Starmie. As much as I hate taking out your other FIRE, this change will check all of the threats mentioned above. I would switch out Infernape for Choice Scarf Flygon; Flygon's set should look like Flygon @Choice Scarf | Jolly Nature | 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe | Outrage / Earthquake / Stone Edge / U-turn. Not only will this check all the threats (Gyarados, Zapdos, and Gengar might still be the only problems on the list), but it will provide you with key synergy with an electric and ground immunity. Now, I want to suggest changing Substitute Heatran to Stealth Rock Heatran with a twist. Heatran's should be something like Heatran @Passho Berry | Hasty Nature | 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe | Stealth Rock / Flamethrower / Earth Power / Explosion. The crux of this set is found in your Passho Berry and Hasty Nature. The Passho Berry will permit you to safely explode on Gyarados and Starmie, including other bulky waters, while the Hasty Nature will let you take Zapdos's THUNDER better. O, wait you have two STEALTH ROCK! I suggest changing Skarmory's moveset to Spikes / Roost / Taunt / Whirlwind. It will become invaluable against any stall, and other unique situations. Gengar is an easy fix, just use the following EV spread on Skarmory: 252 HP / 236 SpD / 20 Spe. This EV spread will make Focus Blast hit for ~55% if I recall correct, meaning you will stall it out leaving it crippled.

Some minor nitpicks are moving your 4 HP Evs to Def on Gengar, using Seismic Toss over Calm Mind (sorry but this is a little too much of a gimmick :/), and moving your 4 SpA EVs to Spe on Blissey. I know these are really small, but trust they will help you at some point! I think that is it for now!

Hope this helps you, and good luck man!
