Overhaul Staull (UU Doubles Team)

Well, it's that time of the week (period jokes aside). 8 days after my last FRMT, and I'm back with one that hopefully won't be as sucky as the last one was. I decided to make a Doubles UU team (for wifi battling, of course) and see how well it fared. Considering that I usually do better in doubles because my teammates can support each other, it went well. It has literally a perfect balance of offensive momentum and stalling. But mostly stalling. God I love stalling.

Alrighty, so before you jump in and rate, here's a few things you need to take in mind before you start rating:
  • This is for competitive UU doubles.
  • I use Unreleased DW, and my opponents are notified beforehand that I use it.
  • Since it's on wifi, UDW is allowed with proper notification.
  • The nicknames might not make sense because Pokegen was a total bitch with names that had spaces.
  • If the text is too small/bright to read, I can fix it for you.

Now, get crackalackin'!

Zaptwo (Zapdos) @ Charti Berry
Trait: Lightningrod
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Discharge
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Protect

This set isn't really mine, as I got it from AntiAntiGuy's old RMT that everyone forgot about despite it being great. I originally had Crobat in place of this guy, but Zapdos is so much better for two reasons: Lightningrod and for only having two weakness, one of which is reduced by Charti Berry. Discharge is a great doubles-move, but it's really more of a last-resort kind of thing, since I don't like damaging my mons or possibly giving them paralysis. Yikes. So Thunderbolt is the next move, and since it still gets STAB and is stronger, I use it way more often. Heat Wave makes the infamous BoltWave combo that gives really decent coverage, and it's great for the dual hit. Protect is really just filler I use on a lot of things. Can't think of a fourth move? Protect. That's my motto, and that's bad.

I usually pair Zapdos with either Suicune or Mienshao. I use Suicune when there are Fire- or Electric-types on the field so Zapdos doesn't have to be forced to stay against them. Suicune loves Zapdos as she only has one weakness (Grass) when partnered with him thanks to Lightningrod, so there's really good synergy. Mienshao is used if I need an extreme offensive presence on the field, and Zapdos helps stop Ghost-types from wrecking Mienshao's Hi Jump Kick. Bonus!

DiamondEye (Registeel) @ Life Orb
Trait: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpDef
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss
- Shadow Claw

Now, this guy is really awesome. If you ever need a bulky Steel-type, use this guy. He takes hits left and right, and sets up Stealth Rocks like the baddest bitch in the world, making him one of the greatest leads ever. After that, what he wants to do can be varied on the current teammate and the opponents. Thunder Wave, although weird on a stall team, helps greatly because my team is pretty slow for the most part, so paralysis on the opponents is a major plus. Seismic Toss is great for Regi's lame base offensive stats, and Shadow Claw completes this set by stopping Ghost-types from complete walling. Plus, offensive types despise Thunder Wave, so bonus again!

The best teammate so far is Suicune. Not only does she stop Fire-types from obliterating Regi, but she can abuse Roar and rack up some major damage against the opponent's team. Sadly, Regi can't do much in return for her, but she doesn't care because everything's good with 255 happiness, right?

HellFire (Chandelure) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SpAtk / 4 SpDef / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Mmm, Shadow Tag Chandy. I'm not sure of Shadow Tag's effectiveness in Doubles because I rarely even have to use Chandy. However, when I do, ooh boy, you better watch out. Normally I despise Choice items, but with teammate support I love it since he can switch out all he pleases without any worry. Chandy was gifted with it's type, giving it two fabulous dual-STABs in Shadow Ball and Fire Blast, and both obliterate the opponent with a high SpAtk stat. Energy Ball is generally useless since I can have something non-Choiced get rid of Water-types, but because of Shadow Tag, it's always viable. Finally, HP Fight is there (yes, I was mad enough to make it work in-game) which gives me great coverage over all of the metagame. Boom.

Chandy doesn't care who his teammate is, as it's busy obliterating shit. However, Mienshao loves Chandy because he can deal with Ghost-types while she breaks down Dark-types, so they can really help each other. Zapdos also gains from Chandy because of Energy Ball (but again, rare situations), while Chandy loves something to beat Water-types.

Queen'sMum (Suicune) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Blizzard
- Toxic
- Roar

Oh Suicune, you complete me. She's my go-to Pokemon when I have no idea who'd be the best switch-in after I lose a Pokemon, since she can do alot with just the four moves she has, and 9/10 times, she's the best option anyway. Most people look at me like I'm high when they see the EVs: "Why uninvest in SpAtk if you're running an offensive-ish set?" Well, since Suicune has such wonderful natural bulk, speed, and power, the EVs are distributed to a point where she can destroy anything without worrying about taking too much damage. She doesn't even care about going second since she just breaks everything with a powerful attack the next turn. Hydro Pump is extremely powerful coming off Suicune and checks so many things that my other Pokemon hate. Blizzard is used over Ice Beam because it's doubles, so hitting both Pokemon is better than just one. Plus, freezing is so much fun. Toxic is good for stall wars, and it makes Suicune look more threatening when your Pokemon's health is starting to drain each turn. Roar makes Suicune an essential asset after Regi is out. Threatening Pokemon that I can't take out? Roar. Need to rack up damage? Roar. Wanna Toxic more things? Roar. It's just great combined with SR and Cresselia's Icy Wind attack, making them the ultimate troll squad.

Although never previously mentioned until right now, Cresselia and Suicune are literally perfect for each other. Rocks + Roar + Icy Wind = ragequit. I've pissed off people so bad with this combination that I've even been yelled at for using it (followed by a ragequit, of course). They make the perfect stall team, too. Toxic + Thunder Wave + Moonlight means that they won't be going anywhere, and since people make the mistake of attacking Cresselia instead of Suicune, they rarely get forced out and can even sweep a team if they wanted to. They don't even have synergy and they work that well together. Ain't that just a gem?

Aside from the Cunesellia team, Suicune pairs excellently with any of my Pokemon, like mentioned above. Mienshao is probably the only one that doesn't necessarily gain from Suicune, but still works well with her. Otherwise, Suicune can take the field whenever she wants to.

HerMajesty (Cresselia) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Moonlight
- Psychic
- Icy Wind
- Thunder Wave

If you ever ask me about my opinion on Cresselia, you'll get the same response every time: "She's should not be in BL2." Like, come on guys. She's awesome, give her the credit she deserves. Anyway, enough babbling. Cresselia is, without a doubt, the only bulky support Pokemon that I love. Whatever she does, she's good at it. Moonlight is a great self-heal, and since weather is uncommon on Wifi UU, I rarely have to worry about the heal. Psychic is for STAB, despite it being extremely weak because of Cress' low SpAtk stat. Icy Wind is the crux here. I'm not kidding when I mentioned that this trolls team. Most people use Beam, I use Wind. Since it's not only a guaranteed Speed drop, but it hits both opponents, making it a powerful Doubles move. This, in conjunction with Thunder Wave, means that even Speed-based sweepers will have a hard time getting through this baby.

I'm not going to mention Suicune again since I don't want another huge paragraph. All my Pokemon gain something from Cress, and she gets something back from them too. Zapdos likes Icy Wind because it helps it outspeed things and it can stop Rock-types, while Heat Wave helps take out Scarf Heracross, which threatens Cresselia constantly. Chandy does the same thing for her in addition to getting rid of opposing Ghost-types, and gets the Speed-lowering power of Icy Wind in return, which makes ScarfTag Chandy way more dangerous. Mienshao, although gaining very little, still likes Cresselia for being able to lower Speeds for a sweep. In return, she KOs pesky Dark-types. Regi probably is the only Pokemon that gets nothing from Cress, and vice versa. Since both of them are defensive support Pokemon, I never send them out together. If you get me down to only Regi and Cress, you pretty much win, since their offensive stats are so low and they have no synergy. The only grace they have are Thunder Wave and Moonlight, but again, it's not much.

PrincessLi (Mienshao) @ Life Orb
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Hi Jump Kick
- U-turn
- Fake Out
- Knock Off

No team, be it stall or hyper offensive or anything, is complete without a Fighting-type. You might argue that Scarf Heracross is better because of the dual-STAB and the ability to take on Psychic-types without a worry. I might argue that Mienshao in Doubles is so much better because of her great Speed and Attack, and being able to utilize Life Orb + Regenerator effectively, meaning her power boost comes almost uncomplicated. Fake Out is a must for either Mienfoo or Mienshao, and it always helps me gain the upper hand when the battle begins. Hi Jump Kick as a Life Orb boosted Max Attack STAB move is deadly, and is a guaranteed OHKO to anything not resistant or immune. Did it miss? Well, hey! Just use U-turn, deal some damage, bring out something else, and heal off the damage. Finally, Knock Off because of Ghost-types, and the lack of Eviolite in UU makes sure that Mienshao isn't reliant on this move. It's also handy to stop Life Orb, Band, Specs, and Trick users from messing with my team.

Mien goes best with Regi. This is because of Fake Out and her excellent Speed, which means Regi has a 95% chance to get rocks up. Regi helps back with Thunder Wave, which makes sweeping much easier for her. Chandy brings the double-offensive presence to the field, and gets rid of pesky Psychic-types for Mien. Suicune can use Toxic + Roar to spread status to the opposing team, while Mien can damage annoying Grass-types with U-turn. Zapdos helps get rid of Flying-types, and Mien helps back by dropping Rock-types.

Major Threat:

Single Battles: Again, this is one of those crazy things that people question my reasoning for. You might think that this team fares well in Singles, but you'd be flat-out wrong. My Pokemon all preform at their best when coupled with a teammate. Get them alone? They're hopeless. If you want to use this team, I have one tip for you.

DO NOT PLAY WITH IT IN SINGLES!

You will lose. Forever.

So, that's it. All rates are appreciated, but if they aren't relevant to Doubles, then it will be ignored. Otherwise, each rate will get a response onto I either decided to use your suggestions, or decided not to use your suggestions. Don't be mad if I don't take your suggestions; I just have to do what is best for the team. Oh, and remember the notes above when rating, too. They can be helpful. (Nickname suggestions are also appreciated.)

So, that's all! Bye everyone! :D

Is this for VGC or UU, since not alot of ppl play UU doubles. Good looking team nevertheless

Well, i'm not the most experienced Double Battles player, but don't you miss Protect on some of your Pokémon? I mean, usually when i see Double Battle teams most of their pokes has Protect + 3 Attacks, and none of you team has it (except Zapdos). Another thing i noticed is that you're using Hydro Pump and Fire Blast when Surf and Heat Wave hit all adjacent Pokémon, which could be better most of the times (unless the opponent has something with Flash Fire / Water Absorb to get it).

Also i don't like that Zapdos set. Discharge already hits both opponents and has nice STAB, not to mention the paralyze chance which might come in handy. Have you ever tested Hidden Power Grass or Roost over Thunderbolt? I think it would be nice to get opposing Swampert / Rhyperior with ease. The idea of Charti Berry is nice because of Rock Slide, so i guess you could keep it, even though i find Leftovers / Life Orb more interesting options.

Well, as i said, i'm not very good at Double Battles but these are a few things that i can remember from some experience i have. Nice team and good luck with it.

Not really. Protect isn't very needed on my Pokemon since they cover each other nicely.

As for Surf, it hits my Pokemon too, so I don't like that. Although I could use Protect more often, the movesets I have are really essential as they are. Same with Discharge. However, I do like Heat Wave, so I could change that. And HP Grass sounds nice too, so I'll change that up too.
