Competitive Description: Mixed wall which compensates for its less than ideal bulk with Multiscale - because of this Myraiapod is locked into hdb since you want to use that Multiscale boost on a switch, but Heal Order and Parabolic Charge means that it's not missing out on recovery in return. Recovery moves also means the potential for multiple Multiscale procs in a match, which is fun (well, depending on your definition of fun). If that isn't your cup of tea, Myraiapod also has high damage potential thanks to cm and Electromorphosis boosts.
Flavor: Power cable millipede guy, pretty simple concept
"Myraiapod harnesses electricity by absorbing the static that is generated by its many legs shuffling along the forest floor. It can then discharge this electricity as a devastating attack, though due to its large size, this was more likely used in fights with its own species than for defense."

Competitive Description: I was original going to make a bug normal tinted lens mon, but now that we already have one with Sigilyph, y'all get this guy instead. Wicked Blow is Sickler's main form of damage output, but it has some other great STABs such as koff, u-turn, and fimp. Combine that with its great speed tier and Sickler can serve as a potent offensive pivot for Ground/Dark-weak teammates or Banded breaker. While Sickler is fast, it's not the fastest mon in the meta, and a majority of mons that do outspeed have favorable matchups into it, such as Alticombat, Crobat-Ancient, and Aerodactyl.
Flavor: Takes heavy design inspiration from Scyther. Main differences are a dark green color, four legs with a centaur-like body plan, smaller semicircle shaped claws, and long antennae.
"Believed to be a prehistoric relative to Scyther, what it lacks in raw power it makes up for with exemplary hunting skills: Sickler would lay low in grasses and stalk its prey until eventually ambushing with a decisive strike to the neck."

Name: Servachne ("servinei" species name + arachnid)
Prompt: Megarachne
Typing: Bug / Rock
Abilities: Sedimentary* / Swift Swim
Stats: 67 / 111 / 80 / 65 / 75 / 97
Movepool:
  • Physical: Leech Life, Bug Bite, Skitter Smack, Pin Missile, Rock Blast, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Crunch, Bite, Night Slash, Low Sweep, Aerial Ace, Peck, Astonish, Sand Tomb, Crush Claw, Slash, Scratch, Vise Grip, Poison Jab, Poison Fang, Poison Sting, Psycho Cut, Iron Head, Steel Roller, Metal Claw, Aqua Tail, Crabhammer, Razor Shell, Aqua Jet
  • Special: Bug Buzz, Struggle Bug, Ancient Power, Snarl, Electroweb, Mud Slap, Mud Shot, Swift, Clear Smog, Acid Spray, Surf, Chilling Water, Brine
  • Status: Silk Trap, Sticky Web, String Shot, Rock Polish, Stealth Rock, Wide Guard, Taunt, Torment, Confuse Ray, Sand Attack, Protect, Encore, Reflect Type, Sleep Talk, Substitute, Swords Dance, Acid Armor, Rest, Rain Dance
Role: Servachne primarily functions as a disruptor with entry hazards, Taunt, and an assortment of tricks like Torment and Encore for the keen-eyed trainer. A decent Speed stat helps Servachne get hazards up consistently despite its mediocre bulk, while more aggressive trainers may see that juicy 111 Attack and access to Swift Swim to use it more offensively on Rain teams, getting up hazards while threatening the opponent with powerful Leech Life, Stone Edge, and rain-boosted Crabhammer.

Flavor: Servachne resembles Anorith in many ways-- only instead of rising onto it's hind legs like Armaldo, it has instead taken fully to the aquatic life, its body flattening out and stretching almost a meter in length. It's lifestyle of sifting through sand at the bottom of rivers has only served to make it's shell harder, requiring it to consume sand and minerals along with its diet of smaller Bug-type Pokemon and fish inhabiting the riverbeds. Servachne has evolved basic camoflauge in order to blend in with the cool sands of ancient lakes, it's shell taking the color of whatever surface it walks upon. Though unassuming on land, in water, Servachne could reportedly swim at speeds rivaling those of the fastest fish Pokemon.
This Pokemon's Bug-type moves get a 50% Damage boost in Rain.

(if this isn't feasible to code, alternatively: This Pokemon takes 0.75x damage from Water- and Ground-type moves.)

Role: physdef wall, uses stamina ironpress to do some really goofy shit. functions as a sturdy flying resist for the meta, and handles a lot of top threats really well (specifically Alti, Yi, and Archeops) with stamina and solid natural bulk, only huge flaw is that it lacks longevity. Can also go for a spatk offensive set with transistor too

Role: Weird lil glue thing and notably a good magic bouncer. Has a crazy good movepool (this time w/ no espeed) good bulk with a decent defensive typing, and overall just a lot of tools to cook with. Has hazards, recovery, setup and strong stabs to be a nuisance, so do what you want with it, but it has a clear direction as a progress maker and hazard deterrent to slow down what looks to be an incredibly hazard dense offensive metagame. Probs a great stallmon too, mbounce mons are historically good at that.
Stats and movepool got a minor rework, just so the mon has a more clear sense of direction. Even went through and italicized/bolted the important things so y’all can get a better sense of what would actually be used and what’s filler

Flavor: These things are the direct ancestors of praying mantis, so, emphasis on the pray. Cardinal big Mantis, half undead, all holy

Role: PhysDef mon that fills in a huge gap in our current defensive meta, walling two of the most dangerous offensive mons right now (Alticombat and Yizolt). Has pretty good stats across the board and a great utility toolkit but suffers by having an awful offensive profile (physical Poison/Electric with no way of hitting Grounds is a yuck, though at least it gets PsyFangs for Brawlutra). Grounds kinda suck in current meta though, so adding another mon that justifies running them is good overall.

Role: Disguise mon. Clicks SD on HO and cleans up if its checks are dead, or alternatively you can run it as a lead with Sticky Web + Memento. Can also be run outside of HO since it has a solid offensive profile and Disguise is pretty valuable for stopgapping scary sweepers like Archeops and Alticombat.
Flavor: Megarachne was originally thought to be an ancient spider, but more recent evidence has suggested that it was actually an aquatic predator (hence the name "sea scorpion"). Arachature is a reference to that, being an actual Megarachne that puts on a spider costume when it goes on land in order to scare predators away.

The Crawly Pokémon
It preys on Bug-type Pokemon which it sucks the juices out of, before wearing their shells as protective armor. It doesn't know what to do without its armor and will fly into a panicked frenzy should it be lost or broken.
Despite its ferocious appearance, it's actually a very gentle creature as long as it isn't hungry. It uses its frightening outfit primarily to demoralize attackers, but is content to leave others be as long as they do the same.

Name: Eurypterror (Eurypterid + Terror)
Prompt: Megarachne
Typing: Bug/Dark
Abilities: Disguise
Stats: 100 HP/110 ATK/90 DEF/75 SP ATK/50 SP DEF/125 SPD = 550
Height: 4'3"
Weight: 195.5 lbs

Movepool:
Screech, Absorb, Mean Look, Feint Attack, Astonish, Bug Bite, Assurance, Struggle Bug, Draining Kiss, Leech Life, Sucker Punch, Confuse Ray, Bug Buzz, Knock Off, Throat Chop, First Impression, Fake Tears, Scary Face, Acid Spray, Struggle Bug, Confuse Ray, Thief, Pounce, Hex, Snarl, Draining Kiss, Night Shade, Fling, Venoshock, U-turn, Shadow Claw, Foul Play, Drain Punch, Taunt, Imprison, Dark Pulse, Eerie Impulse, X-Scissor, Shadow Ball, Phantom Force, Bug Buzz, Haze, Spite, Knock Off, Bug Bite, Super Fang, Lunge, Poltergeist, Lash Out, Vice Grip, Double Hit, Razor Shell, Swords Dance, Crunch, Crabhammer, Guillotine, Water Pulse, Chilling Water, Rain Dance, Waterfall, Liquidation, Surf (+all universal Scarlet/Violet TMs)

Role:
Eurypterror is a formidable predatory chelicerate capable of punching well above its weight, taking full advantage of its fearsome physical attack and speed stats as well as its potential to tank one oncoming hit with Disguise, enabling it to set up with Swords Dance before slaughtering its unsuspecting prey with incredibly powerful First Impressions and Sucker Punches. These two moves in particular are important because with defenses like wet tissue paper, priority would be useful in case it encounters something even faster than itself. Otherwise, Throat Chop and Leech Life are available as standbys with the last one being especially useful in case it's forced to take a hit, with Draining Kiss and especially Drain Punch as coverage moves that also provide recovery on top of that. With less than stellar defenses, though, these moves may well be worse than useless should it be unlucky enough to be on the receiving end of a super-effective attack. Fortunately, Disguise is a useful asset to help it switch into any incoming attack that isn't effective against it (Ground, Ghost, Grass, or other Dark-types) and then hit back with a Leech Life or Throat Chop to recover a good portion of the HP it lost, and it's also fast enough to make full use of Taunt to shut down defensive opponents at its own risk, a bunch of Water-type coverage moves in case of Fire- or Rock-types, and even Confuse Ray to reduce the chance for its opposition to successfully strike it down. Unfortunately, its coverage is so limited that it has nothing at all to defend itself against other Bug-types, and it's especially vulnerable to powerful special attackers that can easily prey on its poor Special Defense - particularly since it has no way of boosting its speed stat directly. Thankfully, it's able to learn U-turn as an easy escape route in case of a counter, but because this move offers neither priority nor recovery, being forced to run it over First Impression or Leech Life puts it in the awkward situation of sacrificing power and/or priority just to give itself a chance to escape should the odds become stacked against it.

Flavor:
A terrifying prehistoric arachnid covered in chitin plating of various colors, Eurypterror is very much NOPE incarnate, with spider-crab-like white legs tipped with red talons it stands on the tips of, spikes like horns jutting out from every part of its armor, huge deadly red pincers with false eyes like Scizor has (making them resemble massive, vicious dragon or dinosaur heads) on both the "arms" coming from its head and the end of its upwards-curving, scorpion-like abdomen, and some design cues from the Tyranids from Warhammer, Shelob from the Lord of the Rings movies, and the titular monster of The Black Scorpion. If you look closely, however, you’ll notice a pair of really tiny glowing eyes like Kabuto’s peeking out from a hole in its faceplate, almost like it’s cowering under its own horrible visage. Should its Disguise ability be broken somehow, it reveals an entirely white, more properly eurypterid-shaped (Pterygotus-inspired) form that's far more skeletal-looking (think of those Crazy-Bonez bone-spider Halloween decorations), but with its adorable tiny closely-spaced eyes on the top of its skull-like faceplate with no other holes or sockets on it; the black "sockets" to either side of them are merely markings. It's entirely free of body spikes which are exclusive to the chitinous armor it normally uses for protection, but its lethal pincers remain as brutal as ever, and it uses them even more often when it has to actively defend itself.

The Creepy Pokémon
This mysterious Pokémon bears some similarities to fossils from the coal ages. Some think it's an ancient ancestor of Spinarak, but it could instead be a close relative.
It resembles an ancient form of Spinarak introduced in a dubious magazine. It uses its three pincers when hunting, but their markings also help it scare enemies away.

Name: Horrachne (Horror + Megarachne)
Typing: Bug/Dark
Abilities: Infiltrator
Stats: 75 HP/90 ATK/70 DEF/65 SP ATK/50 SP DEF/100 SPD = 450

Flavor:
This Wooloo-sized, scary-looking spiny orb-weaver/twig spider mix is almost like a Paradox Spinarak of sorts, primarily white in color with red crab-like legs and a skull-like cephalothorax sporting a pair of horns, though its small red eyes are closely spaced in the middle of the faceplate with black bumps like false eyes (positioned where Spinarak's real eyes are) to either side. It sports "arms" with Scizor-like red pincers instead of Spinarak's fang-like chelicerae (as like a real scorpion, its mouthparts have become pincers of their own), and its abdomen is extended somewhat to form a sort of tail, tipped with a third pincer of its own - the simple black eyespots on all three pincers make it look like it has three vaguely dinosaur- or dragon-like heads that can attack from any direction.

Evolution: To Eurypterror at level 30 during the night

This design is obviously based on the confusion over Megarachne's identity which resulted in it being named that way - it was thought of as a giant prehistoric spider before being reclassed as a sea scorpion. I decided to homage that by having the evolved form literally disguise itself as a big spider (which I noticed only too late was done by someone else's submission, but oh well), but when its disguise comes off, it reveals a more standard eurypterid that attacks more actively. The Disguise ability and the flavor of it using the exoskeletons of past prey as armor like some species of assassin bugs followed suit.

WITHDRAWING THIS SUB DUE TO MY ONGOING JOB HUNT NOT GIVING ME ANY TIME TO REWORK IT AS PER BEAF CULTIST'S VETO.

While this mon's stats are admittedly really bad, the ability for it to call Last Respects or Rage Fist with Sketch (on top of every other potential problem move) pushes it over the edge here. I highly recommend reworking the concept to not rely on Sketch, but if you really want to keep it you'll need to lower this mon's Attack by at least 10 points.

This mon is already pretty borderline without Swords Dance, but having it definitely pushes it over the edge. Please remove SD.

This is literally Beebos's Gigatitan sub but with higher stats and Disguise. I recommend completely reworking this sub, as even if you balanced it by removing Disguise and lowering stats, it would still basically be the same mon Beebos subbed.

24 hours to fix subs, and then voting will start.

I unfortunately do not have the time to rework my sub, in no small part because my ongoing job hunt means I can't do writing in bulk until further notice. Therefore, I wish to withdraw it and therefore not be considered for this slate. My deepest apologies for the inconvenience!

Alright, the veto phase is now over, and voting can begin. Orangesodapop's Gigatitan, ErrorMon's Pigmolt, and Falchion's Eurypterror remain vetoed and cannot be voted for. The voting rules are as follows:
  • Each Pokémon will be voted for separately.
  • There is no limit on the amount of submissions you can vote for. First Place will count for 3 points, Second Place for 2, and all others will count for 1 point. If you only vote for two submissions in a category, First Place will count for 2 points and Second Place will count for 1 point. If you only vote for one submission in a category, that vote will only count for 1 point.
  • Self-Votes may not be First Place and have a limit of 6 points total.
Arthropleura: First Place, Second Place, Third Place
Megarachne: First Place, Second Place
Gigatitan: First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Fourth Place, Fifth Place
Voting will last for 48 hours.

We will now be taking a break for playtesting! Roomtour dates will be decided once the past few slates are coded.

Some quick meta thoughts on the last few slates as we head into the playtesting phase. Haven't had the opportunity to use most of these yet, so take this all with a grain of salt.

Slate 7
Yizolt: Terrifying offensive mon. Our Grounds are pretty mid overall, and both Brawlutra and Crobat can't even switch in on this mon safely (and can't beat it 1v1 either because of First Flight). New addition Venopleura should help a lot with handling this thing.

Dracomizer: Pretty solid tank. My only complaint is that it HARD overlaps with Skeledirge, to the point where I don't think both can be viable at the same time. Hopefully Dracomizer can leverage Tail Spike and its utility movepool to stand out.

Swishivish: I would call this a defensive mon, but it gets Fishious Rend with 90 Attack and 100 Speed. Aerilate sets might be a bit overtuned, but we'll need to see it in practice before taking any action on it.

Arctobyss: Slow Ice type so unfortunately Curse of Mid. Calm Mind or Specs sets might be able to do something, but we have far more consistent offensive options that will likely put it out of a job.

Slate 8
:sigilyph: Pretty cool guy, though looking back I'm kinda worried it's a bit undertuned. I think this mon will shine more once some of the brokens get nerfed.

:tauros: Good meta call on M0on's part, but unfortunately contributes to the Ghost epidemic. Should be a solid offensive mon.

:conkeldurr: I'm still on the fence on whether this mon is broken or bad. I'm curious to see both physical and special sets in practice, though I think special sets will be overall more consistent.

Slate 9
Venopleura: My guy. Great meta addition for some of the current problem mons, though Alticombat will likely still need a nerf.

Servachne: While I do like this mon conceptually, I think it falls short of most of its intended roles in both stats and abilities. Rain doesn't exist in this meta, and without it this mon is really just a midspeed physical Rock breaker with middling stats. Pretty easy buff target down the line though. Don't add Rain btw, Swishivish would absolutely be broken in it.

Cardantis: I really don't like this mon. It has a ridiculous amount of tools for no discernable reason, is yet another physical Ghost, and just doesn't really add much to the meta besides most likely being overtuned. An unfortunate outcome, but a fairly inevitable one given the low number of Gigatitan subs.

That's all for now, but I'll be sure to give updates as we get to playing with the mons and see how they are in practice! Balance patches will definitely be necessary, and we'll be getting to those after we get some test games in with all these guys. If you're looking for games, make sure to join the Discord, as that's where most matchmaking takes place.

Day 1 Impressions

Been playing some games of the meta now that everything is coded (minus a few bugs), and I wanted to highlight some mons that have stood out to me.

:scolipede:Venopleura is mon numero uno in the meta right now, but in a good way. Mon provides a ton of value to teams between being the only reliable counterplay to Alticombat (brokemon), as well as Poison Touch pivot sets being very scary into most of the tier's defensive mons. It can even outspeed Archeops and threaten a KO after some chip, which is hugely useful in a meta starved for Archeops answers.

:archeops:Archeops and :hawlucha:Alticombat I'm lumping together because they're both fast, broken Fighting types. Alticombat is extremely easy to use, with exactly one reliable answer in Venopleura, and if that mon dies it pretty much wins on the spot if played well. Archeops, on the other hand, is noticeably slower, so it does have some offensive counterplay, but its defensive answers are literally nonexistent. The only mons that can even pretend to come in on it are aggressively awful options like Pesbasil and Bastiodon, and it's just far too strong for anything else to have a hope of beating it. Both of these mons are very much on my radar for potential balance changes in the future.

:dracovish:Swishivish hasn't had too crazy a showing yet, but it really does just win the game once the opponent's Water resists are out of the picture. I've been experimenting with Scarf sets and they've been extremely consistent at cleaning up weakened teams, with Aerilate Double-Edge easily clearing out anything Fishious Rend can't.

:skeledirge:Skeledirge has been shockingly good so far. It's not even so much that it has amazing defensive matchups (though it definitely has those as well), but moreso just how dangerous Torch Song really is, particularly on a mon not crippled by weaknesses to Dark and Ghost. Definitely looking forward to seeing this mon more, as well as how people play around it.

:lurantis:Cardantis has indeed been pretty stupid. Magic Bounce sets are extremely consistent and hard to make progress into, pretty much single-handedly screwing over most defensive teams. If it did have one downside, it would be that its bulk can feel a bit lacking at times, but that's mainly because I'm investing in PhysDef and then being surprised at not taking less than 40 from special hits lol. Definitely feel like this mon is overtuned, though I think my least favorite thing about it overall is that it loses to most of the top tiers while at the same time completely destroying a lot of weaker mons.

:armaldo:Armaldo is real!!! Gaining U-Turn (plus recent slates adding more mons it matches up well into) has actually given this mon a complete turnaround, making it a pretty legit option for teams. I'm super excited about this mon actually being viable now, and I hope to see more of it in the future.

:crobat:Crobat is a strange one. I can't tell if it's a demon or if it's just really good into me specifically, but I keep losing to this mon and I don't know what to do about it. STABs + Sludge Bomb provide perfect coverage in the current meta, hitting most defensive mons super-effectively besides niche options like Lapras and Cradily (who is weak to Sludge Bomb but doesn't take all that much damage from it). I think this mon being so good is more of a meta thing (mainly the nauseating number of Ghosts and Ground-weak defensive mons we have), but I do want to see how other people handle it going forward.

So yeah, super happy with the meta so far! It has its flaws, and there are some bugs that still need fixing, but the mod is already in a playable state with barely any interference and things can only go up from here. I'll keep yall posted as I find out more, and you can look forward to a (most likely room)tour as soon as all the bugs are ironed out.
