So this is my first RMT. Mainly because I haven't actually been able to build a consistent team. But this one's doing pretty good, so why not?
Anyway Raichu's my bro. He's been since 98 when I was introduced to pokemon. Fast foreward to a few months ago I stumbled upon PO and naturally went straight to the NU tier to give my Raichu a chance to beast. My first few teams were Raichu centric and did alright. Eventually I stumbled upon Regigigas and he quickly became the true MVP of my team. After a string of losses I disbanded my team and decided to make a Regigigas centered team. It's worked out pretty well so far although I still need some help here and there.
Team Strategy:
- So the basic strategy is to set up for Regigigas to come in and wreck havoc. What does Regigigas need to set up? He needs a sub up and paralysis support. He sometimes has trouble setting up himself so he needs the rest of the team to provide paralysis support and take out his counters to set up the sweep. Paralyzing is priority number 1 because my sweepers thrive on it. That's the basic idea.
Jumpluff
Nature: Jolly
Item: Wide Lens (Increases the accuracy of Stun Spore/Sleep Powder)
EV's: 252 HP, 252 Spe, 4 Def
- Stun Spore
- Sleep Powder
- Encore
- U-Turn
Strategy:
- Jolly Jumpluff outspeeds all the non-scarfed leads in the tier. I generally open with Sleep Powder, then predicting a switch use Stun Spore which cripples two members of their team right off the bat. If they use Substitute of something then I'll encore then if I'm feeling lucky I'll switch to Raichu to start setting up. If they're packing an ice attack or Flamethrower I just U-turn out to Slowking to sponge the attack. Jumpluff's critical to the team so I keep him alive as long as possible to spread as much status as I can to help set up the rest of my team.
Problems:
- EV's in general.
- Is Wide Lens good? I absolutely rely on Stun Spore/Sleep Powder to hit but it doesn't increase accuracy all that much.
Slowking
Nature: Bold
Item: Leftovers
EV's: 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 Sp Def
- Thunder Wave
- Surf
- Nasty Plot
- Grass Knot
Strategy:
- Sponge and status. I generally throw him out early to scout with. He can beat most of the stuff he draws out except for the rare Skuntank. When it comes out all i can do is paralyze and do as much damage as I can with surf.
I literally just replaced Flamethrower with Nasty Plot so I haven't really tested it. Even though the other set worked well I've been looking for something bulky that can pass paralysis, sponge attacks, and do some damage. I spent I don't know how long looking for a replacement pokemon that can do that until it occurred to me that Slowking has everything I wanted. The only thing that worries me is that he essentially a bulky version of Raichu with T-wave instead of Encore.
Problems:
- The EV's could use a tweaking
- Basically a bulky Raichu, redundancy ftl
Porygon2
Nature: Bold
Item: Leftovers
EV's: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp Atk
- Discharge
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Fire
- Rest
Strategy:
- Send him out, sponge attacks, status with Discharge's 30% paralysis rate, then Rest the damage away. His main attraction is that he's a normal type, so he draws out Medicham/Hitmonchan that seriously threaten Regigigas. No Tri Attack is unusual but normal attacks don't offer any coverage. I got walled by something and realized I've got no fire attacks that's why Hidden Power Fire is in there. He's a good tank but not much else.
Problems:
- Rest or Recover? I opted for Rest because he kept getting hit with statuses and it cripples him.
- As usual, EV help?
- He does his job good enough but gets walled pretty easy. I'm open to replacing him for another tank.
Skuntank
Nature: Adamant
Item: Life Orb
EV's: 252 Atk, 232 Spe, 24 HP
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Taunt
- Explosion
Strategy:
- I needed something to eliminate ghosts for Regigigas. What better then the best Ghost killer in the game? If I switch into either a ghost or a psychic type it's GG. Generally I just spam Pursuit hoping they switch and even if they don't I'll still take them out before they can kill me. Sucker Punch nets me kills against weakened foes while Taunt helps me prevent things from setting up. Explosion is a last resort and guarantees me a kill. This guy's a beast. The best kept secret in the tier imo
Problems:
- As usual EV adjustment. I have no idea why the EV's are the way they are currently
Raichu
Nature: Timid
Item: Focus Sash
EV's: 252 Sp Atk, 252 Spe, 4 HP
- Nasty Plot
- Encore
- Grass Knot
- Thunderbolt
Strategy:
My Bro. Nothing brings a bigger smile to my face then sweeping with him. This is a standard set for a reason. I generally don't switch in unless either they are already Encored by Jumpluff or already paralyzed and I have faith that I can set up. Nobody enjoys taking a +2 Thunderbolt, much less a +4. Grass Knot is in there for Rock and Ground types that otherwise wall him. Fairly straightforward set.
Problems:
- None that I can think of.
Regigigas:
Nature: Adamant
Item: Leftovers
EV's: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Def
- Substitute
- Return
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Wave
Strategy:
- The finisher. This guy doesn't come out until the match is all but over. Generally when he comes out I've already set up and paralyzed their remaining pokemon and can effectively set up. Even if the rest of my team failed I've still got a shot of setting up with T-wave and Substitute. If I can stall until Slow Start ends then it's usually GG.
Problems:
-Is Thunderwave redundant seeing as how like half of my team is already packing it?
Big Threats:
I don't feel that I need to do a huge threat list because most of it is fairly obvious what I'd do. So I'll just post the big threats I've come across
Typhlosion- Scarf Typhlosion wrecks my team. He out speeds everything I have and 0HKOs most of my team. My only real chance I've got is Sucker Punching with Skuntank which doesn't 0HKO, and I think a set up Regigigas can take him. Slowking forces him out but he can never hit him with Surf. And I think he may get 0HKO'd by Seed Bomb with Stealth Rock up, although I could be mistaken.
Medicham- If he sends him out early I've got a shot, but if not then he's unstoppable. His High Jump kick 0HKOs pretty much everything I've got. My best bet is letting him kill something then sending out Raichu with my free switch. If he doesn't have Stealth Rocks out the It'll take him two turns to kill because of Focus Sash and Raichu can Thunderbolt and there's two chances for Static to activate. From there even if I didn't paralyze him Skuntank's Sucker punch can take him out. But like I said If Medicham comes out late game I've got no chance. All I can do is pray that Hi Jump Kick misses and with the Recoil damage my attack always takes him out.
Shuckle- While not overly dangerous he can wall my team into oblivion. If my Raichu/Slowking can get up a few Nasty Plots they can take him down, although if it's early in the match he hits them with toxic then switches which will take them out before they can take him out. If they're gone then I wait until I get a free switch then if Regigigas can get behind a sub before getting hit by Toxic Shuckle and him have a stall off in which Regigigas will win due to his ridiculous amount of PP. Shuckle can't single handedly take me out but he does more damage then I would like.
Cradily- I HATE fighting Cradily. If he comes out early I immediately send out Skuntank and taunt. They usually hate only having one Curse up and usually switch out. If It can set up I'm in serious trouble. Raichu's Grass Knot does nothing. Skuntank doesn't do much and usually gets 0HKO'd. Porygon2 does nothing. If it's Cursed up even on the off chance I can set Regigigas up he can't take him down. Slowking's my best bet but most Cradily's are packing Rest so Unless by some miracle I get a few Nasty Plots up. But even then if he's behind a sandstorm he'll just take me out and Rest away the damage. Cradily makes my life absolutely miserable.
