[Overview]

Parasect has what is quite possibly the worst typing in the game and the worst stat spread imaginable to go along with it. A double resistance to Ground and Grass paired with a resistance to Fighting and Water sounds great at first, especially considering it conceivably allows Parasect to take on the two best Pokemon in the tier (Huntail and Hitmonchan) in one set, but these perks are dwarfed by its horrible six weaknesses to Flying, Fire, Bug, Rock, Ice, and Poison. These weaknesses all but ensure every Pokemon in NU has an attack super effective against it, sometimes two or three, and this fact combined with its atrocious Speed and subpar defenses make it nearly impossible to accomplish anything it wants to set out to do. Parasect's one saving grace, the ultimate ace in the hole, is Spore. A 100% accurate sleep move is great, amazing even, but it pales in comparison to Parasect's downsides.

[SET]
name: Cleric Support
move 1: Spore
move 2: Aromatherapy
move 3: Hidden Power Flying
move 4: Giga Drain
item: Leftovers
ability: Effect Spore
nature: Sassy
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
- This set is designed to make the absolute best of Parasect's typing to take advantage of the few Pokemon it can beat one-one-one while still being able to support the team with Spore and Aromatherapy
- Fits best on balanced defensive teams that need a cleric that's not Chimecho or Lickitung and/or want to use Chimecho as a late-game sweeper
- HP Flying lets Parasect beat non-Rock Slide Hitmonchan one-on-one without having to burn Spore
- Giga Drain makes use of Parasect's resistances and can beat Huntail and Relicanth one-on-one

[ADDITIONAL SET COMMENTS]
- EV spread is needed to be able to take on Huntail and other Water-types without just caving in to Ice Beam
- Defense can be run to better take on Rock-types instead, but the ability to take on Huntail and Hitmonchan as-is is a gigantic upside to choosing Parasect
- Light Screen an option over Aromatherapy or Giga Drain as desired to support the team in another way and better take on Water-types
- Needs teammates to cover its many weaknesses, particularly to Fire- and Flying-type attacks. Wailord makes a great partner as it can make use of RestTalk and count on Parasect to be able to wake it up with Aromatherapy
- Considering Parasect can take on Hitmonchan, works well with Pokemon that have a weakness to it like Mawile and Pupitar

[Other Options]
- Choice Band, Swords Dance
- Counter
- RestTalk
- Thief, Flail

[Checks and Counters]
- Strong physical attackers not locked into a Fighting or Ground move
- Flareon, Torkoal
- Tropius
- Pidgeot, Murkrow
- Golbat, Swalot, Arbok

Sadly, uninvested Giga Drain fails to kill Huntail in two hits.

Consider using 252 HP / 88 SAtk / 168 SDef or even 252 HP / 132 SAtk / 124 SDef:
88 SpA Parasect Giga Drain vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Huntail: 127-150 (50.3 - 59.5%) -- 84% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (19.5 - 23.1% recovered)
252 SpA Huntail Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 168+ SpD Parasect: 151-178 (46.6 - 54.9%) -- 10.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
132 SpA Parasect Giga Drain vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Huntail: 134-158 (53.1 - 62.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (20.6 - 24.3% recovered)
252 SpA Huntail Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 124+ SpD Parasect: 158-186 (48.7 - 57.4%) -- 47.7% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Similarly, Parasect needs a slight amount of Atk EV to kill Hitmonchan:
20 Atk Parasect Hidden Power Flying vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Hitmonchan: 122-144 (50.4 - 59.5%) -- 81.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
76 Atk Parasect Hidden Power Flying vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Hitmonchan: 129-152 (53.3 - 62.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
