[Overview]
  • Parasect is often labeled not competetively viable from 4 previous generations of living with this thing. When 5th gen comes though, nothing could be further from the truth.
  • Bug/Grass typing gives it useful resitanses against electric, grass, water, ground, and fighting types.
  • But weakness' against Poison, Bug, Ice, Rock, Fire and Flying (4x the latter two) somewhat overshadows that.
  • When you look at it's stats, you'll see why people think that, 95 attack is only decent stat and with only Sp.Attack Parasect can't make use of it's solid special movepool.
  • 60/80/80 defences means that it can't use it's brilliant phazing movepool to it's fullest potential. But that's still not the worst of it.
  • 30 speed is absolustley terrible. That's it, plain and simple.
  • Dry Skin allows you to switch into water moves for free recovery.
  • Parasect is one of those pokemon that you wish gamefreak gave better stats, becasue without them, parasect's usefullness is extremely low.
[SET]
name: Stall
move 1: Spore
move 2: Leech Seed
move 3: Substitute
move 4: X-Scissor
item: Leftovers
ability: Effect Spore/Dry Skin
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 168 Def / 86 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
  • Both abilites are viable and they don't do much to the rest of the set so yuo have a choice.
  • Spore puts the opposing pokemon to sleep which is always nice.
  • After putting the opposing pokemon set up a leech seed stright away so can stall out whilst recovering HP.
  • Substitute lets you set up and stall out.
  • X-Sccisor is your damaging move, so you're not taunt bait and you can attack a pokemon if it stayed in after being spored.
  • Leftovers is the obvious item here, the HP you get from it will increase the longlivity of Parasect.
[ADDIONAL COMMENTS]

  • EV's are spread out so Parasect is a mised defender. With Careful Parasect has exactly the same defencive stats on both side of the sprectrum and max HP is obvious. 4 EV's is leftover and since it won't be doing much in speed you may as well put it in attack.
  • You can put protect over substitute or X-Scissor if you want. But I personally prefer substitute due to the fact you can take multiple hits and you don't have to rely on PO's RNG to take multiple hits. Also if you don't want to become taunt bait you should leave X-Scissor on the set.
  • If you do use protect over X-Scissor though, put those last 4 EV's into either defence stat, your choice really as it won't make a huge difference.

WIP

Remove the mention of Drizzle Politoed, it's not in NU. Dry Skin is still semi-viable, but it needs a lot of Rain Dance support, and it's really the only thing Parasect is getting that makes it any better than Amoonguss.

Will remove.

Maybe a bulky SD set is viable? It has a decent attack stat

WIP=Work in progress. I'll add one soon. However, if you have an idea for one I'll gladly use it (it saves me from playtesting :P).

Shouldn't be Impish / Bold for the nature, since you're running X-Scissor?

X-Scissor is physical

EDIT: O, I see what you were going at col. Omicron explained it better but thanks both of you!

Still trying to find a good swords dance set. I'd like some input in that respect personally as I haven't had a lot of time on PO as of late. I do have a rough idea of what to try when I do get time though.
