Pawniard's well-rounded stats, typing, and movepool make it one of the best role compressors in Little Cup. It can set up Stealth Rock while being a solid defensive answer to Pokemon such as Gastly, Deerling, and Zorua, or it can use Swords Dance and Defiant to become a top-tier sweeper with Sucker Punch. Low Sweep threatens opposing Pawniard, OHKOing after Stealth Rock damage, while also providing Speed control against common switch-ins like Crabrawler. Alternatively, teams that don't fear opposing Pawniard can opt for Night Slash, a consistent source of STAB damage that threatens bulky Water-types and pairs best with Swords Dance. Flying and Ghost are both strong defensive Tera types that address Pawniard's key weaknesses; Tera Flying is a better choice against Diglett, whereas Tera Ghost is better against Fighting-types and doesn't add a Stealth Rock weakness. Tera Dark as an offensive option is more niche, but on Swords Dance + Night Slash sets, it can easily invalidate common Pawniard checks such as Quaxly and Mareanie. One of the best partners for Pawniard is Toedscool, as it is similarly versatile and counters the Pokemon Pawniard struggles with, such as bulky Water-types, Fuecoco, Diglett, and Mudbray. Another great partner is Gastly, as it easily exploits Fighting-types like Mankey and Crabrawler, which easily KO Pawniard. Most teammates appreciate Pawniard's versatility: Crabrawler, Toedscool, and Gastly all heavily appreciate its defensive utility, as it switches into their biggest counters of opposing Gastly, Deerling, and Choice Scarf Zorua, respectively. Pawniard also shines on teams without Glimmet that need a reliable Stealth Rock user, as well as Surskit Sticky Web teams that want a potent set-up sweeper and something to deter Drifloon's Defog.

Pawniard distinguishes itself from other physical attackers in Little Cup with its well-rounded stats and movepool, and a typing that provides both offensive and defensive benefits. It can function as an offensive pivot setting up Stealth Rock and set up Stealth Rock while taking only minor damage from Pokemon such as Gastly, Deerling and Zorua, or it can take advantage of Attack boosts provided by Swords Dance or Defiant to sweep through unprepared teams, with Sucker Punch threatening faster Pokemon and defensive walls fearing Iron Head flinches. Brick Break Low Sweep is used to threaten opposing Pawniard, as it guaranteed OHKOes OHKOing after Stealth Rock damage. Alternatively, teams that don't fear opposing Pawniard can opt for Night Slash, a consistent source of STAB damage that pairs best with Swords Dance. (Pawn's best option for hitting bulky Waters as well)

Pawniard has several viable Tera-Types. (Remove all hyphens from Tera, e.g Tera-Flying ->Tera Flying) Flying and Ghost are both strong defensive options that address Pawniard's key weaknesses, Diglett and Fighting-types. Tera-Flying is a better choice into the former, whereas Tera-Ghost offers better resistances and doesn't add a Stealth Rock weakness. Tera-Dark as an offensive option is more niche, but on Swords Dance sets it can easily invalidate common Pawniard checks such as Quaxly and Mareanie. (Tera Dark should only be used if Pawn is running Night Slash)

One of Pawniard's biggest weaknesses is Fuecoco, which can always wall Pawniard thanks to its high bulk, Slack Off, and Unaware, and threaten back with Will-O-Wisp or a super-effective Fire-type attack. (Change this sentence to be about bulky Fire-types in general, mentioning Larvesta as well) Similarly, Mudbray can tank hits easily with Stamina and threaten back with Earthquake. (Add a sentence on bulky Waters, which check non-Night Slash sets) Fast Fighting-types such as Crabrawler and Mankey also force out Pawniard, but must fear Tera watch out for Terastallization, as does Diglett. (Diglett doesn't force out pawn, it traps it) Pawniard pairs well with most Pokemon due to its versatility, but notable examples include pokemon that struggle with Gastly like Crabrawler, Choice Scarfers that need Stealth Rock chip damage, (examples?) and Surskit Sticky Web teams that want a potent set-up sweeper. It can set up Stealth Rock while taking only minor damage from Pokemon such as Gastly, Deerling and Zorua, or it can take advantage of Attack boosts provided by Swords Dance or Defiant to sweep through unprepared teams, with Sucker Punch threatening faster Pokemon and defensive walls fearing Iron Head flinches.(This is a lot of words to just say role compression. Cut out all the fluff and just mention how it provides role compression by being a Stealth Rock setter that can check the above Pokemon and also double as a capable setup sweeper.) Low Sweep is used to threaten opposing Pawniard, OHKOing after Stealth Rock damage. Alternatively, teams that don't fear opposing Pawniard can opt for Night Slash, a consistent source of STAB damage that threatens bulky Water-types and pairs best with Swords Dance. One of Pawniard's biggest weaknesses are bulky Fire-types like Larvesta and Fuecoco, which can easily tank attacks, heal off damage, and threaten back with Will-O-Wisp or a super-effective Fire-type attack. Similarly, Mudbray can tank hits easily with Stamina and threaten back with Earthquake. Bulky Water-types like Quaxly and Mareanie can also counter non-Night Slash sets. Fast Fighting-types such as Crabrawler and Mankey also threaten Pawniard, but must watch out for Terastallization, as does Diglett.(This needs to be cut down by a lot. We don't need to list everything this Pokemon is weak to. This section should focus on partners that can help Pawniard deal with these threats that you mentioned.) Pawniard pairs well with most Pokemon due to its versatility, but notable examples include Pokemon that struggle with Gastly like Crabrawler, Choice Scarfers that need Stealth Rock chip damage like Mankey, Magnemite, and Gastly, and Surskit Sticky Web teams that want a potent setup sweeper.(Everything benefits from Stealth Rock. I would like to see more examples of Pokemon that benefit from Pawniard's defensive utility.)

Low Sweep is used to threaten opposing Pawniard, OHKOing after Stealth Rock damage. Low Sweep allows Pawniard to OHKO opposing Pawniard after taking damage to Stealth Rock. (Concise sentences are key to an easy-to-read analysis, so I just reworded it for it to flow and sound better) Alternatively, teams that don't fear opposing Pawniard can opt for Night Slash, a consistent source of STAB damage that threatens bulky Water-types and pairs best with Swords Dance.
