PELIGOD
QC: Anty / Grim / Megazard
GP: CryoGyro (amcheck) / GatoDelFuego / Rare Poison
[OVERVIEW]
Pelipper's decent physical bulk and access to Roost make it a good check to many physical attackers in the tier like physical Floatzel, Monferno, and Pawniard. Pelipper is also a decently reliable entry hazard remover, with its access to Defog and reliable recovery in Roost. A decent defensive typing in Water / Flying lets Pelipper resist Water- and Fire-type moves, some of the more common types in the metagame. Pelipper faces competition from other Defog users, such as Swanna, Lumineon, Vullaby, and Prinplup. However, due to Pelipper's bulk, ability to be a better Monferno check, and reliable recovery, it differentiates itself from these other Pokemon. Unfortunately, Pelipper is easily worn down by status and Stealth Rock, the latter of which it is weak to. This pressures it to go for Roost instead of Defog. It is also very passive, so setup sweepers can set up on it fairly easily. In addition, Pelipper is also easily pressured, which makes its weakness to Stealth Rock worse because it is forced to switch out often. Pelipper's subpar Speed means that it has less opportunities to use Defog and Roost.

Moves
========
Scald threatens checks to Pelipper's teammates due to its chance to burn. Defog is one of the main reasons to use defensive Pelipper, as it clears entry hazards away for teammates like Simisear and Regice that don't appreciate switching into Stealth Rock. Roost recovers HP, allowing Pelipper to become a more reliable check to physical attackers like Monferno and Mawile. U-turn allows Pelipper to gain momentum when the opponent switches out.
Set Details
========
Neither of Pelipper's abilities are particularly useful, but in order to run Defog, it needs Keen Eye. This EV spread, along with an Impish nature, is used in order to maximize Pelipper's physical bulk. The 248 HP EVs minimize damage from Stealth Rock. Leftovers gives Pelipper passive recovery that allows it to check physical attackers more often. Pelipper can run an alternative EV spread of 160 HP / 252 Def / 96 Spe with an Impish nature in order to outspeed fully invested, neutral-natured Pokemon with base 45 Speed like Golem and Crustle.
Usage Tips
========
Pelipper should switch in on Pokemon that it walls like Monferno or Camerupt so it can have a chance to go for Defog or Roost. Remember your priorities when using Pelipper. If you need it healthy in order to check an opposing Pokemon, then it's likely you should go for Roost when given a free turn. However, if you need entry hazards off the field because your wincon is weak to them, then you should consider going for Defog first. You can spam Scald in order to try and burn bulkier Pokemon as they switch into Pelipper, crippling them for Pelipper's teammates. For example, if the foe switches in Regice to take on Pelipper, burning it will cripple it by wearing it down. If your opponent has a Pawniard or Purugly, be careful about when to use Defog, as you will give them an Attack boost from Defiant if you use it.
Team Options
========
Strong wallbreakers such as Cacturne and Stoutland, which appreciate free switches that Pelipper provides by using a slow U-turn, are great partners for it. Pelipper pairs well with other Pokemon that use Volt Switch or U-turn, such as Zebstrika or Monferno, as together they gain lots of momentum. Chinchou is a good example of this because it creates a defensive core with Pelipper in which Chinchou covers Pelipper's weaknesses and vice-versa. Teammates that are weak to entry hazards, such as Regice, Rotom-F, and Rapidash, appreciate Pelipper's ability to use Defog. Pokemon that appreciate Fire-types being checked, such as Cacturne and Regice, are great teammates for Pelipper. Finally, Pokemon that can take Electric-type attacks for Pelipper, such as Golem or Chinchou, are great partners for it.

Other Options
=============
The most viable other option is an offensive set with a Life Orb; a moveset of Agility or Tailwind, Roost, Hurricane, and Hydro Pump; an EV spread of 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe; and a Modest nature. However, this set faces fierce competition from Swanna as an offensive Pokemon with Water / Flying typing due to Swanna's better Speed. Hurricane can be used over U-turn on the defensive set if your team has trouble with Grass-types like Leafeon, but in general, Pelipper misses the momentum that it gains by using U-turn. Toxic can be used to wear down opposing Pokemon, such as Stunfisk or Vullaby, but the loss of offensive momentum from U-turn makes Pelipper more passive than it already is, and Pelipper simply does not have the moveslot for it. A specially defensive set can be used, but has a harder time checking threats in the metagame such as Monferno and Floatzel. Instead, this set checks threats like Simipour and Simisear.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Electric-types:**: Most Electric-types, such as Zebstrika, Rotom-Frost, and Raichu, can OHKO Pelipper with their super effective STAB moves.
**Strong Special Attackers:**: Pelipper's Special Defense is subpar, so powerful special attackers like Mr. Mime, Swanna, and Chatot can OHKO or 2HKO Pelipper with their STAB moves.In addition, Pokemon with Electric-type coverage, such as Regice or Hidden Power Electric Floatzel, can also OHKO or severely dent Pelipper. However, most of these Pokemon don't appreciate Scald.
**Offensive Pressure:** Offensive pressure often forces Pelipper to use Roost instead of Defog, therefore preventing it from doing its job.
