Persona 3 OU Team

Format and Weavile set credit to Zema!

Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad

I've been trying for a while to make a team based around one of my interests. Having recently finished Persona 3 during the summer, I've decided to make a team dedicated to it. Persona is an amazing game, so if you have a PS2 and any interest in RPG's, take a look at it.

Persona's are creatures of power which can only be summoned by the use of an Invoker. What appears to be a handgun, Invokers are pointed at the head and fired to cause extreme duress upon the mind, summoning a persona and, with it, its powers.

With this in mind, my team is completely offensive, with all life orbs. This makes it versatile, powerful, and time constraining. It's a difficult team to play with, but a very fast paced and fun one as well.

  • Mitsuru Kirijo | Weavile
    • A stern woman, Mitsuru is the daughter of the Kirijo Group, an affluent business in Japan. Mastering in the art of swords, she uses quick attacks backed by finesse to take down her opponents. Her persona excels in ice magic.
  • Item: Life Orb
  • Nature: Jolly
  • EVs: 4 HP | 252 Atk | 252 Spe
  • Move Set:
    • Fake Out: Fake Out is an amazing lead move. Breaks sashes and brings enemies into KO range. A free priority move as well.
    • Ice Shard: STAB priority makes this move a must. With LO and Fake Out, many enemies are taken down without a chance to retaliate. Helps stop Dragons and Aero. Great revenge move as well.
    • Pursuit: STAB pursuit, what a blessing! Fake Out and Pursuit takes down the common Azelf leads, as well as Gengar and Alakazam. Helps to trap and revenge kill.
    • Brick Break: Brick Break will allow me hit opposing threats such as Tyranitar, Lucario, Blissey, Heatran, Magnezone and others. It also functions as a way to break opposing screens.
  • Description: Zema's set and description can be found here! One of the best leads in the OU environment. Grabs plenty of revenge kills and helps start off the fight on the right foot.

  • Junpei Iori | Infernape
    • Junpei is the class clown. Showing a macho exterior, he often finds himself lost or confused on the inside. Fighting for SEES helps him feel more like a hero. Junpei excels at close range combat and his persona weilds fire.
  • Item: Life Orb
  • Nature: Naive
  • EVs: 24 Atk | 252 Spe | 232 SpA
  • Move Set:
    • Close Combat: The ever so common, oh so powerful Close Combat. Destroys Blissey and Snorlax, as severly denting anything not resistant.
    • Flamethrower: Flamethrower over Fire Blast for accuracy and PP. It provides STAB special attack to compliment Infernape's STAB physical attack, as well as create the Fire/Grass combo.
    • Grass Knot: Kills those bulky waters who often switch into Infernape. Finishes the Fire/Grass combo for great coverage.
    • Stealth Rock: I couldn't really find a place to fit SR onto a team, which is a huge problem. SR is by far the most essential move of every team. Infernape causes plenty of switches, so I haven't had trouble getting them down.
  • Description: My wall breaker with great coverage. A very standard set, but with SR instead of NP or HP: Ice. I don't quite like SR on him, because his fragility means he has few turns to switch in, and with life orb, even fewer to dish out damage. However, it's been working and SR is absolutely necessary on any competitive team.
dpmfa212.png

  • Akihiko Sanada | Scizor
    • A senior member of SEES alongside Mitsuru, Akihiko is a wise and conservative character. He is the highschool boxing champion. However, his fighting ability is used with responsibility. Akihiko chooses his fights and supports his team, despite his sheer power.
  • Item: Life Orb
  • Nature: Adamant
  • EVs: 252 HP | 252 Atk | 4 SpD
  • Move Set:
    • Sword Dance: With Scizor's decent defense, it's quite easy to grab a sword dance, with or without forcing a switch.
    • Bullet Punch: STAB Technician priority, what else needs to be said? Combined with Sword Dance, this is one of Platinum's most prominent changes.
    • X-Scissor: Used for STAB and to provide great coverage. Great for destroying Celebi, and with +2 Atk, deals massive damage to all those who don't resist.
    • Roost: Instant recovery on someone who has decent defenses and a life orb increases survivability, and in the end, offensive ability.
  • Description: Who didn't see this coming? Bullet Punch is one of the greatest additions of Platinum. More teams than not are not well equipped against this threat. I'm questioning Brick Break over Roost to cover Heatran, but I don't think it'll help, as most are Scarftran. So unless I can get a +2 Brick Break on the switch, it really isn't worth it over Roost.

  • Aegis | Zapdos
    • The last of the Anti-Shadow arsenal, Aegis is the only android left to combat with SEES. She is highly adaptive to weaponry and can wield a large arsenal. She has an uncanny devotion to Minato, which she cannot explain.
  • Item: Life Orb
  • Nature: Timid
  • EVs: 4 HP | 252 Spe | 252 SpA
  • Move Set:
    • Thunderbolt: No Zapdos set can be without this. Provides STAB electric attack, which every team could use. The rare chance of paralysis is more than welcome on my status-less team.
    • Heatwave: Platinum addition that greatly helps in Zapdos's coverage. Destroys steel types which mostly wall my team, as well as dealing with the new threat of Skymin.
    • Hidden Power Ground: Mostly to combat Heatran as well as give me my first ground type attack on this team. I'm undecided as to whether change this to Ice or Grass to combine with Zapdos's other moves, creating complimentary offensive moves.
    • Roost: Exact same concept as Scizor. Zapdos is bulky and loves an instant recovery to help with its SR weakness. Helps also reduce PP with 50% instant recovery and Pressure. Removes flying type, preventing slower sweepers abusing ice or rock attacks.
  • Description: My nature and EV's need reevaluation, as they seem to be arbitrary. A more efficient bulky build would be appreciated, without slowing down this sweeping beast.

  • Yukari Takeba | Shaymin - S
    • Fragile girl who hates to see the pain that is in the world. After discovering her persona powers, she digs into her father's disappearance. Sure enough, her father was killed developing research on the Shadows. Wanting to avenge her father, she musters up the courage to fight. Her persona excels at wind magic and support.
  • Item: Life Orb
  • Nature: Timid
  • EVs: 4 HP | 252 Sp Atk | 252 Speed
  • Move Set:
    • Seed Flare: STAB with 120 BP, as well as a 80% chance of lowering the enemies SpD by two stages with Serene Grace; Skymin's signature move.
    • Air Slash: Offering a secondary STAB as well as a 60% flinch rate, Skymin doesn't leave the door without this move.
    • Earthpower: Provides coverage against the fire and steels (I'm looking at your Heatran). Also has a 20% chance of lowering the enemies SpD by one stage. lulz
    • Hidden Power Fire: Provides a nice Grass/Fire + Air/Ground coverage. I decided to use this over Psychic to take care of Scizor and to damage Bronzong. I'm considering HP Ice, but I've had enough success with HP Fire to say I'll keep it for now.
  • Description: Skymin is ridiculous. It may be frail and SR weak, but with a godly ability and moves to abuse with it, it is bound to be on its way to Uber. But we can't make any assumptions just yet and I'm not afraid to jump onto this bandwagon. If you can't beat them, join 'em.
dpmfa373.png

  • Minato Arisato | Salamence
    • The Main Character remains unnamed in the video game series. However, the manga (which I haven't read) have him named as Minato. He is an interesting character in that he is the only one who can change persona on demand. Other SEES members are confined to their persona, which fits them. Minato, however, may have a myriad of moves and surprises, as well as different aspects of himself.
  • Item: Life Orb
  • Nature: Jolly
  • EVs: 120 HP | 252 Atk | 136 Speed
  • Move Set:
    • Dragon Dance: With Intimidate and its typing, Salamence is sure to force a switch on anything without an ice attack. After 1 DD, this thing begins to wreak havoc.
    • Outrage: A deadly Platinum addition. KO's anything that doesn't resist, sometimes even without a DD. As unforunate as the lock is, it always causes severe damage with a DD.
    • Earthquake: Damages all the steel types who wall this set, except for Bronzong. Provides a good deal of coverage with dragon type moves, as well as a plain old strong attack.
    • Roost: Same as Zapdos. Helps alleviate its SR weakness as well as providing durability to my most powerful sweeper.
  • Description: My late game sweeper who often is used earlier on to force swiches with Intimadate, proceeding to DD it up. You thought Salamence was amazing when Garchomp was banned into Uber? Well it just got Outrage. Deadly sweeper and main character. Salamence provides the unpredicatbility and power desired.
12:01 AM | Dark Hour Ends

This team is really fun, but it has its weaknesses. SR is kind of a problem, albeit my lead weavile helps prevent it. I've had a decent record, although same battles were only won with hax. Suggestions are welcome and do not have to fit the bios of said characters; there are more SEES members. As well, I would prefer to have Life Orb on all pokes, to keep with the theme.

This RMT took a long time to make, so all thoughts are appreciated.

i'd hate to see effort like this go to waste, so I'll try the best I can here.

The Weavile lead could be stopped by Azelf, since many now are carrying Fire Blast which would toast Weavile like a marshmallow ^__^
And, even after a Fake out, Ice Shard and Pursuit will not KO, unless he is switching out. Gengar too, if he is carrying Choice Scarf, then would OHKO with Focus Blast.
Mind you, this will not always be the case, but watch out for these, as they can screw your plan over pretty quickly.

Stealth Rock is best Left to LeadApe, so I'd reccomend throwing HP Ice over Stealth rock. This is not something Infernape should usually be doing due to it's low defences, although there are exceptions. This is not one of them unfortunately. On Skymin, I'd try out Sub over HP Fire, simply for better survivability. If you plan on this set though, try out out Choice Scarf so you can revenge kill heatran, even the scarf variants. Just make good predictions though!

On Zapdos, the EVs are fine, but I'd reccomend trying out Metal Sound over HP Ground. Metal Sound is here because after one use, Thunderbolt averages about 40% or 47% damage to Blissey, depending on her EV spread. That means that with some residual damage (Stealth Rock, Spikes, and/or Sand Stream), Zapdos may actually manage to beat Blissey. Calm Mind and/or Ice Beam will make it a lot tougher though.

And on Salamence, Flamethrower is a good choice for the 2HKO on Skarmory, the OHKO on Forretress and Scizor, and the ability to do something to Bronzong. Fire Fang is not generally as good of an option because you need to hit these Pokemon as they come in, meaning you won't have your boosts.

That's about it... Good Luck with your Team! ^___^

it's a cool team, though like olie says, it needs some help. first things first, weavile really wants a sash, as olie said, so that you can deal with random shit that is scarfed or whatever. basically I'd go with the anti-lead set in the analysis. I also whollly disagree with the statement about ape not being able to sr, so I'm going to show you a super cool set:

Infernape @ leftovers / life orb
Nature: jolly
evs: 252 atk, 252 speed
- encore
- u-turn
- stealth rock
- fire punch / close combat

the idea is you come in and encore someone that tries to set up on you, then set out sr. later on, you can give yourself favourable switches in with u-turn on inevitable switches, giving your men great oppertunities to come in and whatnot. the choice between lefties and LO is basically between whether you want him to really do damage to random slow shit or live to force more switches. a big qualm I have about this team is the fact that you are so mamo weak, which is really troubling, well actually, you are just sr weak in general, which is why it's great to have weavile destroying sr leads and keeping sr off the field. an interesting though, however, would be to go scarfduggy > zapdos. here's the deal. other than aero (who is hardly used anymore) the only lead that beats antilead weavile (aka gets up sr) is dual screen deoxys-s. scarfduggy means that he is able to get up his two screens and sr, but you can easily stall out the screens and kill him, for basically nothing except him getting sr, which will greatly hamper the opponent and put you at an early advantage. another great thing is that with all the switches ape will be forcing, trap-killing by means of u-turn is a certainly viable strategy. lastly, your scarftran problems are ended, which means that scizor can sweep more easily, as can everyone else on your team, as scarftran really is mean to this team. personally, on salamence roost isn't worth it without the hp evs, and dragon claw > outrage when you're going that bulky.

other than that not too many qualms, watch the mamo weak, though you can (I guess) take advantage with clever switching to get ape in and do some damage, as well as semi-stall it with scizor if you are willing to invest a few attack points in defense. actually, that's not a bad idea. I'd throw in 100 def evs, giving you the ability to roost for ~60% per go (though you roost it back) until mamo gets into bullet punch range from lo, and then of course you can lo stall him with clever switching. dunno what to do without drastically changing the team.

edit: as far as ape, mixape doesnt really like sr, that was just me hastily reading the other rates to see what input has been given lol. but like yea, hp ice / np / uturn > sr on mixape.

Stathakis, regarding your Comment that I said about Infernape not being able to use SR:
Stealth Rock is best Left to LeadApe, so I'd reccomend throwing HP Ice over Stealth rock. This is not something Infernape should usually be doing due to it's low defences, although there are exceptions. This is not one of them unfortunately.
I never said infernape could not use SR, but just not for this one set.

But that set you suggested looks really cool Stath, This looks like something I might try ^__^
