Persona 4

Was anyone surprised at the criminals?

Spoilers - Highlight to see
------------
I couldn't even guess who he was apart from a process of elimination.

Even bigger spoilers:
--------------
And even more surprised when i found out he wasn't the last one.
------------------------

Overall though, I think this game deserved best game of PS2... Atlus at it's best, honestly.

Spoilers below:

I had suspected Adachi for a while before finding out it was him, mainly because he was spying on them at Junes, always "accidentally" leaking information and when he arrests and chases after what is obviously a paparazzi which allowed Rise to kidnapped. Even when
Namatame first became became a suspect it still didn't explain the announcers death because he had no contact at all with her and Mitsuo who was never on the midnight channel before hand and his name was never released to the to public.

this game is BEAUTIFUL. I have absolutely no qualms about calling this the best and my favorite PS2 game. brilliant story, amazingly likeable and relatable characters, good graphics, fun battle mode... it just does everything well.
Currently on the last dungeon; no i havent beaten the final boss yet, but i've seen enough to make me want to praise this game for an eternity.

SPOILER SHIT
i am man enough to admit this game almost made me cry in two moments: when nanako was first captured, and when she 'died'. it was heartbreaking. the last time i even felt like this was when dumbledore died in the HBP and that was a long time ago. brilliant i say! the music helped this a lot, it was so sad :(
I couldnt guess the killer was adachi. great plot twist. however i must say that after he has been uncovered, his motives turn to shit. "I did it for fun" that's the most generic and standard way they could have went :( namatame had great motives once you figure him out, and mitsuo was fun in the way that you can totally see he's desperate for attention.

um anyway that's probably my only complaint regarding the story, everything else is sublime. i recommend this to anyone - it's a japanese game that takes itself very seriously, it's not one of that anime crap where the funny moments are characters falling to the ground when someone does something embarassing or get all ^_^ faced when they're happy - this is a genuinely serious, fun to slug thorough game.

This is easily my favorite PS2 rpg, and one of my favorite games in general. I honestly never saw the killer coming, and when it was revealed I felt like an idiot for not seeing it sooner. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, and started a second playthrough as soon a I completed the game. The "true" ending was a little underwhelming though. My only real complaints are that the fox jacks up prices beyond any reasonable level, the final boss wasn't as epic as 3's was, and that it's pretty much impossible to know about the "true" ending unless you're using a guide.

I think it can safely be said that Persona 4 is among the top 20 or so games of all time, and the only reason it is not considered an instant classic is because it's on the PS2 and Atlus doesn't market their games the same way Square Enix does. Pity.

Anyway, the strength of this game lies in the characters - not just the main characters, but the supporting cast, as well as how the game rewards you for taking the time to get to know everyone. These are real people with real problems, expressed in a way never really seen in a video game. You will be compelled to perform the Social Links in order to delve more deeply into the characters of the game.

I disagree about your assessment of Adachi's motives, Doomsday...I find that his type is actually rare in media, and I found that his whole "nihilistic dickhead" gave me an immense feeling of "i want to knock the living shit out of this motherfucker". Mitsuo and Namatame were beautifually placed red-herrings.

I was able to successfully "guess" the culprit, though not based on much evidence...I was talking with Fishin and I was like "just tell me if I get it wrong/right" then just took a total shot in the dark, and got it right.

btw MAKE SURE YOU SAVE AROUND DECEMBER 2.

Is anyone following the manga?

it seems pretty good but once you've pretty much beat the game it's just more of the same.

i want to finish this game (on the 'true' final dungeon) so badly but my ps2 died ugh ;(

I'm glad to see that this thread got revived, as this is one of my all time favorite games! I finished the game in a month, and played over 100 hours. Started the new game+ on expert difficulty, but I haven't got around to playing it with the end of the school semester weeks away. Plus, I FINALLY got Persona 3: FES.

Looks like I'll have a busy gaming summer!
