In random battles, the layout usually looks like this (for both players and spectators):
The Pokémon on your team don't appear below your name, even for the player themselves. Instead, you see Poké Balls, and these give way to Pokémon as they enter the field. That's the standard.
Based on this premise, when you add the custom rule "picked team size", for example, "picked team size = 6", it looks like this from a spectator's perspective:
Everything's in order, right?
But when we see this same battle from the player's own perspective, it looks like this (same turn, same battle):
So my suggestion would be for the player view to follow the same logic as standard Random Battles — only showing Pokémon that have already been revealed, instead of displaying the full team from the start.
Observation: Remember that adding the "picked team size" rule does not automatically add a team preview (I think in the past it was necessary to have one, but that seems to have changed now).
