[SET]
Offensive Pivot (Dragapult) @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Dragonium Z
Ability: Clear Body / Infiltrator
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SpA / 252 Spe or 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Naive / Timid Nature
- Hex
- U-turn
- Dragon Darts / Draco Meteor
- Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
[SET COMMENTS]
Dragapult leverages its excellent Speed, serviceable offenses, and a good defensive profile to become a premier offensive pivot, outspeeding Pokemon such as Zamazenta and Tapu Koko. Hex takes advantage of Dragapult's ease of spreading status to allow it to 2HKO foes such as Zapdos and Tornadus-T and also exploits Gliscor's Poison Heal. Will-O-Wisp hinders physical attackers and neutralizes Leftovers recovery from the likes of Ting-Lu, Zamazenta, and Ferrothorn while also punishing Pursuit attempts from foes such as Kingambit and Mega Tyranitar, potentially even allowing Dragapult to win the interaction. Thunder Wave allows Dragapult to spread status against Fire-type Pokemon such as Volcarona, Moltres, and Heatran, though it loses out on Will-O-Wisp's chip damage and damage reduction. Dragon Darts hits foes such as Ting-Lu when running Thunder Wave or Volcarona when running Will-O-Wisp, as Dragapult is unable to status them, and they can comfortably switch into unboosted Hex. Draco Meteorgives Dragapult a significant boost to its immediate power due to its higher Base Power, eliminating the need to invest into both offensive stats, which is highlighted further when paired with Dragonium Z, OHKOing foes such as Hisuian Samurott and Raging Bolt while also KOing defensive Landorus-T after Stealth Rock damage. Heavy-Duty Boots is the default choice for Dragapult, as it allows it to pivot unhindered by entry hazards. The first EV spread should be used if using Dragon Darts and allows Dragapult to 2HKO Hisuian Samurott, while the second EV spread should only be used alongside Draco Meteor. Clear Body allows Dragapult to ignore Landorus-T's Intimidate and Sticky Web's Speed drop if not holding Heavy-Duty Boots, though Infiltrator is better against Aurora Veil and dual screens hyper offense teams, and it ignores Iron Defense Zamazenta's Substitute.
Dragapult appreciates other teammates that can spread status, such as Thunder Wave Gholdengo, Toxapex, Moltres, and Zapdos. These hinder answers such as Ting-Lu, Hisuian Samurott, and Heatran while also allowing Dragapult to more easily boost its Hex. Dragapult appreciates Spikes support from the likes of Hisuian Samurott and Ferrothorn to help its unimpressive offensive profile, capitalizes on its ability to force many switches thanks to the threat of Will-O-Wisp, and quickly wears down common answers such as Kingambit and Mega Tyranitar. Dragapult also appreciates Knock Off support from the likes of Ferrothorn, Kingambit, and Mega Scizor to remove Heavy-Duty Boots from foes such as Moltres and Tapu Koko. Dragapult struggles against Pursuit users such as Kingambit and Mega Tyranitar, so Pokemon that check them such as Great Tusk and Zamazenta are powerful teammates. Dragapult can burn physical attackers such as Melmetal and Landorus-T to provide easier setup opportunities for teammates such as Ogerpon-W and Garchomp.
