Platinum > Diamond and Pearl

Hello, it's been a while since I've been on here and I need some help with my Platinum team, it's been going pretty well. It's a kind of a SandStall team.... Changes are in BOLD

tyranitar.png

Sandman (Tyranitar) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 240 HP/84 Def/184 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Roar

This is my own creation, he is such a great Lead, get's Sandstorm started, lays Stealth Rock, Crunch takes care of Gengar and Azelf, has enough Special Defence to take a Life Orbed Focus Blast from a Timid Gar and can Phaze out Ninjask. The only leads he's having trouble with is Mence and Gyara, but there not that hard to handle. This guy is also my back up Special Wall
zapdos.png

Zeus' Pet (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/220 Def/36 Spd
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Heat Wave
- Roost

My main Gyara, Scizor and Skymin counter, also takes on Luke that doesn't have Ice Punch and counters BandCross that isn't locked it to Stone Edge. His EVs let him OHKO Skymin and outspeed standard BandCross.

vaporeon.png

h2o (Vaporeon) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 220 HP/252 Def/36 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Surf
- Hidden Power (Electric)
- Protect

My MixApe and Gyarados counter. His EVs let him always OHKO Gyara after Stealth Rock and Life Orb damage

donphan.png

Rollout (Donphan) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/80 Atk/176 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Shard
- Counter

Pretty nice, EVed so he can kill Mence with Ice Shard after STealth Rock and Life Orb damage. He also can kill a full health Mence with Counter if Mence is Outraging

spiritomb.png

R.I.P (Spiritomb) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/80 SAtk/176 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Will-o-wisp
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

My ResTalker, Spin Blocker and Special wall. His EVs let him OHKO Gar after he switches in to Stealth Rock.

gliscor.png

Vlad (Gliscor) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 132 HP/8 Atk/152 Def/216 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

My Luke counter, switches in on the SD and OHKOs with Earthquake, can sweep late game if he gets a SD in

So there's my team, I will only take advise and if your not giving me any then don't post..... Please :toast:

Mmm not really rating your team as a whole but if you are trying to be a sandstorm stall team I think you should replace your vappy with a tentacruel for the extra toxic spikes support which would help your team out, and as for your spirit tomb I would go with dark pulse over shadow sneak unless you really want the prority. The team looks pretty solid but it looks like a shaymin that gets a sub up safely can create stir up some trouble

Yeah, you seem a bit Jolly Lucario weak, especially to Ice Punch.

I would just change Spiritomb to Bold, and run 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA, with Rest / Sleep Talk / Hidden Power Fighting / Dark Pulse. This would give insurance against Jolly Lucario. It is also very unlikely for the set of Swords Dance / Ice Punch / Close Combat / Stone Edge, you would normally see Extremespeed somewhere, or Bullet Punch (though the latter is unlikely with the infestation of Scizor!). You could then change Zapdos to more Special Defense orientated, to help with Shaymin-S.

My biggest worry then would be something setting up, but you have a fairly solid defensive core, so you should be fine. When you get multiple threats against you though, there could be a bit of a problem. Also watch Shaymin-S if Stealth Rock is in play, as Donphan won't come in to Rapid Spin it away, and Shaymin-S can hide behind a Substitute as insurance from Ice Shard.

:)

romeojustdie: Well I need Vappy for Wish support, and Cruel can't counter Mence right since it's not bulky enough. Also I might give Tomb Dark Pulse or Shadow Ball, I'll have to change the EVs spread though

Twash_Man: I know that set is uncommon, but even with ExtremeSpeed he can still 2HKO Tomb with Ice Punch

If I change Tomb to a Physical wall one then I don't have a Scizor counter since Zapdos is 2HKOed by a +2 X-Scissor, and if Stealth Rocks are up he's 2HKOed by a +2 X-Scissor then a +2 Bullet Punch

I haven't have problems with Skymin, It doesn't even take a Pokemon out. I might make Zapdos a bit more bulkier on the Special side, but I'll still keep some bulk for the Physical side. Do you have any suggestion on the EV spread for that kind of Zapdos?

I still need some help with my Luke problem by the way, o and I forgot to mention that T-Tar is my back up Special Wall too

You've really got nothing to assuredly deal with Skymin other than Zapdos and I generally like to have a rule of thumb of having at least 2-3 pokes on a team that can come in and counter it safely.

With Zapdos being kinda slow compared to most... I think it will have a very hard time killing things...

Nearly every team carries SR as bog standard, so I doubt you could really have it deal with Hera's SE very well.

I don't think having your lead as a phazer is a great idea as they are usually the first ones to get statused or Tricked or whatever. I personally don't think that 'Tomb is that great of STalker it seems quite on the frail side for that to me and especially in a sandstream where it nulls Lefties recovery...

Your team has a bit of a Infernape and Machamp weak as well.

I think Celebi or Heatran could be quite useful on this team. Lucario is going to die or flee the moment it thinks there's a Scarftran somewhere and Celebi can take a couple CCs.

A solution to your Jolly Ice Punch Luke weakness could be to run a Jolly nature on Gliscor. With Jolly nature I would mess around a bit with the spread, though. 156 HP / 136 Def / 216 Spe maximizes your physical defence stat, and you are going to need all the Defence you can get. However, a fast Gliscor should consider Aerial Ace to deal with Heracross. After a Burn from Spiritomb, CBMegahorn will 2HKO your whole team, and it's faster then your whole team except Gliscor - and that's not a good thing. Roost cancel Gliscors Flying type, which means that you're unable to Roost of the damage. With Aerial Ace however, you're going to kill it off. I highly recommend using it. :/

I also though Vaporeon was your primarily Gyarados counter, until I realized it lacked HP Electric. A LO-Dos will wreck havoc considering Vaporeon is unable to kill it off. I think Gyarados is a bigger threat to your team then the Dragons, who by the way is dealt with by Zapdos and Donphan respectivly.

I also would've given Shadow Ball on Spiritomb a try, considering you'll need it to get some damage on a Machamp. Currently, behind a Substitute, you'll pretty much screwed.

I'll give your Gliscor set a try, but with 8 Attack EVs so he always will OHKO Luke. I used to have Aerial Ace on this guy over SD, but I need SD since my team is completly walled by Bliss if I can't boost my attack.

Zapdos outspeeds CBCross by the way, since most CBCross don't run max Speed. I was going to give Vappy HP (Electric), but I need Protect so I can get my HP back from Wish. I'm gonna test out Vappy with Hidden Power (Electric) over Ice Beam since you said I have Donphan and Zapdos to take care of Dragons.

I will try Shadow Ball on Tomb and change his EVs spread. The hole point of Pursuit is so I will always kill Gar, but he is almost always a lead so T-Tar can take him.

Thanks for the help and I will get back to you with the results :)

*EDIT* Results: I am keeping all of these changes. Thanks for all this help :)
