Researching all these combinations was a lot of fun! What's the next step for these combos?

Ok, here is a list of what I would like checked:

1) XD Special Moves <---Done!
2) Sky Attack Tutors <---Done!
3) Nightmare Tutors
4) Self Destruct Tutors
5) Event Move List 1
6) Event Move List 2 (Not at the same time as number 5)
7) Pokemon With New Abilities <---Done!
8) Pokemon with NO Illegal Combinations
9) Format of all Illegal Move Combinations (Last)
10) Shoddy's previous list of illegal movesets.

Can anyone else think of any major thing I might have missed?

Post which you are doing, then any corrections with links to the pokemon. When you are done, post DONE in size 6.

New Ability Check

Done!

By which I mean to say that all the posted families incorporate their new abilities into illegal sets. Where a Pokémon's new ability is not mentioned (e.g. Hitmontop, Granbull), the poster seems to be correct in asserting that there are no conflicts.

Remaining Grey Area: Smeargle.

We have Smeargle listed as a Pokémon with no illegal movesets, which makes sense at first. However, it has sometimes been discussed that there may be moves like Memento that are possible to Sketch in third gen that are not sketchable in fourth gen. If that's true (I haven't tried it myself) then any recently unsketchable move would be illegal with Technician.

I'll try to sketch Memento myself in Diamond and see if there's really a problem or not.

First problem area: Smeargle.

It's something to think about while I go through the rest of the families.
To my knowledge, the only unsketchable move is Chatter. Every other move can be sketched by doing a double ingame battle, and having a fast smeargle sketch the pokemon the replaced the memento one.

Sky Attack Check

I took Skuntank, Smeargle, and Slakoth to Route 209 to have a double battle with the couple there.

Round 1: Skuntank uses Memento and faints, Smeargle wastes a turn.
Round 2: Slakoth replaces Skuntank, Smeargle sketches Slakoth, Sketch fails.

I also tried sketching Skuntank immediately after it faints. That also fails.

Does this approach to sketching Memento work in the GBA games? I can't test them myself. If it does there may be a legality issue for Smeargle after all.

EDIT: Putting Smeargle away to continue with the task at hand. I'll do check #2 now.

Sky Attack XD tutor:

Done!

Dodrio's family needs these additional lines:
Code:
Doduo:
~Sky Attack + Brave Bird,
~Sky Attack + Mirror Move,

Dodrio:
~Sky Attack + Brave Bird,
~Sky Attack + Mirror Move,
All other posted families either include Sky Attack in illegal sets or are correct in not mentioning it (i.e. it's also an egg or level up move.)

EDIT: Dodrio may need a few more corrections. Supersonic and Mirror Move should be a legal combo in fourth gen through Chatot. There's no Chatot in third gen so the moves would remain illegal in combination with third gen tutor moves including Sky Attack. The extra sets would be:

Code:
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Tri Attack,
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Body Slam,
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Double-edge,
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Mimic,
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Sky Attack,
You may want to recheck Dodrio altogether, though. It's probably necessary to use the "Double-edge" spelling rather than "Double Edge", too.

It's possible that other species I've checked correctly include Sky Attack but don't include combinations that used to be illegal and remain illegal combined with it. Those Pokémon have more problems than just Sky Attack, however, and one assumes that when they're corrected Sky Attack will be part of the corrections since it's already listed with the other tutor moves.

Hmmm, smeargle is surprising.

And I'll go through and check all of mine for illegal 3 rd gen move combos just to make sure. (Oh, and ~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Tri Attack, should be legal for dodrio bu not doduo)

To be thorough, I figured I'd try the 3rd gen way of sketching Memento in the 4th gen to see what would happen. The log was something like this:

(Facing the Pachirisu twins, who were irrelevant)

Go! Misdreavus!
Go! Parasect!

Misdreavus used Shadow Sneak!
Pachirisu took lol% damage!
Parasect used Spore!
Misdreavus fell asleep!

Parasect, come back! Go Smeargle!
Misdreavus is enjoying its beauty nap! (Selected Memento)

Smeargle used Blaze Kick!
Its attack missed!
Misdreavus is having a really weird dream! (Selected Memento)
(just to make sure Smeargle saw Memento being selected)

Smeargle used Sketch!
Smeargle Sketched... Shadow Sneak!?
Misdreavus woke up!
Misdreavus used Memento!
Goodbye, cruel world!

So Sketching Memento in the 4th generation looks like a really tall order. But what I find really interesting (not sure how entirely relevant it is though) about this is that Smeargle never "saw" Shadow Sneak being used or selected but was still able to Sketch it anyway.

This implication could affect more than Smeargle's unobtainable combinations and change its movepool (maybe no Healing Wish or Lunar Dance?). Selfdestruct/Explosion + Technician should still be fine thanks to the possibility of the Exploder Skill Swapping Damp onto itself before switching the formerly Damp Pokemon out for Smeargle.

The other Sketchability concern beyond suicide moves are moves that call other moves. Can a Smeargle be a Technician and know Metronome at the same time?

Nightmare Check

Smeargle can sketch Metronome in fourth gen without difficulty. You're right that having a Damp Pokémon does allow the exploding moves to be sketched. You might think to try Clear Body as "Memento's Damp" but it doesn't cause Memento to fizzle because its user faints before it attempts to apply the stat drop to its target. It'll be interesting to see whether we can figure out a way to sketch suicide moves in fourth gen.

Sorry for not distinguishing between Doduo and Dodrio in my earlier post. I should offer corrections for each member of a family rather than blanket corrections which apply to members of a family to different extents.

Having a fresh look at it right now I think that the family also needs:
Code:
Doduo:
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Faint Attack,

Dodrio:
~Supersonic + Mirror Move + Faint Attack,
Hoothoot has those same three egg moves and doesn't seem to have a legal way to obtain all three simultaneously.

Back on task, I'll continue with Check #3.

EDIT:
Nightmare XD Tutor

Done!

Clefairy's family is the first to be missing Nightmare.
Code:
Cleffa:
~Magic Guard + Nightmare,
~Covet + Nightmare,
~Fake Tears + Nightmare,

Clefairy:
~Covet + Nightmare,
~Fake Tears + Nightmare,

Clefable:
~Covet + Nightmare,
~Fake Tears + Nightmare,
There's also an extra tilde at the start of Clefable's section that will eventually need to be cleaned up.

Meowth also needs to incorporate Nightmare:
Code:
Meowth:
~Flail + Nightmare,
~Odor Sleuth + Nightmare,
~Punishment + Nightmare,
~Technician + Nightmare,

Persian:
~Flail + Nightmare,
~Odor Sleuth + Nightmare,
~Punishment + Nightmare,
Meowth and Persian also have some instances of "Double Edge" that will eventually have to be changed to "Double-edge".

Dunsparce:
Code:
Dunsparce:
~Magic Coat + Nightmare,
~Trump Card + Nightmare,
Shedinja:
Code:
Shedinja:
~Bug Bite + Nightmare,
~Bug Buzz + Nightmare,
~Night Slash + Nightmare,
~Faint Attack + Silver Wind + Nightmare,
Roselia:
Code:
Roselia:
~Leaf Storm + Nightmare,
~Pin Missile + Nightmare,
~Razor Leaf + Nightmare,
~Sleep Powder + Nightmare,
~Water Sport + Nightmare,
~Worry Seed + Nightmare,
~Uproar + Nightmare,
~Extrasensory + Nightmare,

Roserade:
~Leaf Storm + Nightmare,
~Pin Missile + Nightmare,
~Razor Leaf + Nightmare,
~Sleep Powder + Nightmare,
~Water Sport + Nightmare,
~Worry Seed + Nightmare,
~Uproar + Nightmare,
~Extrasensory + Nightmare,
Same post as Dunsparce, I should have noticed!

Send a PM to Misaki to make sure it gets fixed. Also, don't worry about how double edge is spelled, Ill fix it once its in the final document

And I'm working on checking all of mines and fixxing that mistake

Starmie

Code:
Starmie:
~Refresh + Power Gem,
~Nightmare + Power Gem;
Checking for Nightmare compliance revealed that Starmie has illegal sets after all. Power Gem did not exist in the third generation and only Staryu can learn it today. It is therefore illegal with Starmie's third gen exclusives.

Good catch re: Nightmare + Power Gem! I'll edit that into my old post. I already found the Refresh combos.

In other news, Healing Wish is Sketchable. Healing Wish will fail if you don't have any remaining Pokemon to replace it, so a party consisting of only Smaergle and a Healing Wish user can get Healing Wish onto Smeargle. I don't currently have the resources to test Lunar Dance, but I'd guess it'd work the same way.

For the record, how is Metronome Sketched in the 4th generation? Won't Sketch just get the move Metronome called?

It sketches Metronome rather than the move that Metronome uses. If I remember correctly, when I tested it Metronome used Sweet Kiss and Smeargle learned Metronome just the same.

Just tested this again and I can confirm. There goes my plan of distributing Smeargles that know random moves from Sketching Metronome users.

Thanks for letting me know. Should all the other moves that call other moves work the same way?
