This is a very basic team. I've been out of the game since 2nd generation, did not touch 3rd generation at all, and barely touched 4th generation when they announced the 5th one. Even though I have the game, I haven't really put my mind into it at all, until now when I heard that there is a small chance that the Brazilian Pokemon Championship may be sanctioned by Nintendo next year. It is just a rumour for now, but if it happens, I want to be ready for it.
With that in mind, I need this team to be rated within TPCI's rules (or whatever ruleset is it that it is used in the official competition). Since I couldn't seem to find the correct place to post it, I figured posting on "other" was the most proper place to post.
Enough babbling. Here it goes:
Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EV: 252 ATK, 4 SATK, 252 SPD
Nature: Naive
Fake Out
Hi Jump Kick
U-Turn
Grass Knot
"Mienshao is the basic hitter of my team. It follows closely the 'All-Out Attacker' build from Smogon. Hi Jump Kick + Life Orb can OHKO most stuff that's not resistant to it. Technically speaking, Smogon's suggestion is that I give it HP Ice and have either Fake Out or Grass Knot, but the truth is that hitting the sweet spot where I have both the correct HP, the correct Ability and three maxed IVs is nearly impossible and I find the use of HP Ice too situational to be worth the effort, plus both the uses of Grass Knot (that heavily damages Jellicent) and the Fake Out + U-Turn scouting possibilities seem a better fit."
Zoroark @ Life Orb
Ability: Illusion
EV: 4 ATK, 252 SATK, 252 SPD
Nature: Rash
Dark Pulse
Flamethrower
U-Turn
Sucker Punch
"Zoroark has been placed on the team as a counter to whatever is it that could drop Mienshao. This is as per Team Suggestion found on Smogon 'All-Out Attacker' build for Mienshao. It, too, uses its 'All-Out Attacker' build. Despite picking Rash as the nature, I could go for Naive. Heracross has been placed on the sixth position of the team so Zoroark's Illusion ability will cause it to appear as Heracross, possibly causing a switch-in that will actually be weak to Zoroark."
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EV: 252 HP, 48 DEF, 208 SDEF
Nature: Relaxed
Spikes
Leech Seed
Gyro Ball
Power Whip
"Ferrothorn too has been placed on the team as per Team Suggestion on Mienshao's build. Its purpose is to lay down Spikes, helping Mienshao kills, tank some threats that Mienshao cannot deal with and overall be the annoyance that we all know that Ferrothorn is and is loved for. It follows Smogon's 'Standard' build."
Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EV: 248 HP, 216 DEF, 44 SPD
Nature: Bold
Scald
Will-O-Wisp
Recover
Taunt
"Jellicent has been added to the team to make the obvious Ferrocent defensive core, complementing Ferrothorn. It follows the 'Utility Counter' build from Smogon."
Heatran @ Air Baloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EV: 252 SATK, 4 SDEF, 252 SPD
Nature: Modest
Fire Blast
Earth Power
Hidden Power
Stealth Rock
"Heatran is my great doubt. He was added because during my tests, I've been easily destroyed by Fire attacks. It is here to deal with Fire types and knocks them down with Earth Power. The Air Baloon prevents the ever present and obvious counter in the Earthquake attack. However, it seems really out of place and it cannot be bred."
Heracross @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Guts
EV: 16 HP, 240 ATK, 252 SPD
Nature: Adamant
Megahorn
Close Combat
Stone Edge
Facade
"As I already said, Heracross' purpose is to provide support for Zoroark both as the shape for its Illusion and as a counter for its most obvious counters.
