Ever since the Pogs Championship of 2010, PogChamp has blown up and spread worldwide as a universally familiar gesture of excitement. Naturally, as a result of such phenomena, there have been a considerable number of creative recreations of the original PogChamp, which is why this thread is here today, so that we may come to document the varying Pogs and determine their viability, as has been done within every other competitive facet of the community. As we near the 10th anniversary of PogChamp's creation, I hope to see this thread spark to life with discussion, good noms, and some quality pogs!

Nominating Pogteageist: Unranked -> A
Pogteageist is a metagame staple. Its recent addition to the main smogon discord server has only helped to increase its usage exponentially, such to the point that you always have to keep this one in mind whenever you're pogging. One of Pogteageist's biggest strengths stems from the exchange of the letter L into G, as it is a near seamless transition that helps to ensure that both the pun and the majority of the base Pokemon's name are maintained while still rolling off the tongue quite smoothly. Second, the effort taken into recoloring the base PogChamp so that it can fit more seamlessly onto Polteageist's frame is an excellent touch that greatly helps Pogteageist's viability tremendously. Additionally, the base Polteageist face is simple enough in design to transition easily into a pog, with no fear of details like not having a mouth or eyes bogging down its viability. Not to mention how the chip in Polteageist's teapot lid provides almost the perfect amount of space to transplant Polteageist's face with the Pog. With that said, I do unfortunately have to knock Pogteageist's viability a bit, on account of how the bottom lip clips over Polteageist's wrist. A minor error, but unfortunately a fatal one that prevents Pogteageist from hitting the criteria of perfection that S rank demands.

Rules

• Post intelligently. Posts like "I think X pog should be in this tier" will be have absolutely nothing done to them. Expand on your opinion with any level of analysis you choose to provide, though showing understanding of the metagame and perhaps bringing a unique perspective to the conversation may help to make your case stronger.
• Usage statistics may be used to support an argument or a claim, but don't base your ENTIRE argument around them. There needs to be more substance than just this. For example, you can't just say "X pog shouldn't be this tier because they aren't used that often!"
• When nominating a pog to move from one rank to another, you are encouraged to list its qualities such as design, name implementation, quality, etc. If you think a pog deserves to rise or drop, explain what has changed in the meta to cause such pog to get better or worse.
• When new pogs are released, please feel free to discuss the ranking of the new pogs or the rankings of pogs that are impacted by these developments.

I am hoping for a productive discussion to take place in this thread throughout the generation. I am looking forward to seeing the metagame develop in front of our eyes; I find this to be a very cool prospect and it is one of the main reasons why I elect to run this thread. With this said, I am still only one person, so try not to make my life too hard here...post intelligently, lurk before commenting if you are new, and do not expect everything to be moderated super closely 24/7. I am volunteering my time and effort to maintain threads like these, so I expect a certain degree of respect and understanding of this.

Ngl I feel poglio should be atleast a+ tier. Its meta game staple in little poggers has just been stupid influence. With Liquid Voice, their normal type pogs now become stab. Now due to me actually uh not even knowing this is a real thing,theres a good chance you should put this in S tier. Bofa will be really mad if you dont. So like please put poglio is s tier We all stan it.

Pogchamp is a solid S tier, but I think Pogchoke has a niche and could have maybe C viability? Not to mention Pogchop is great in LC.

Nominating JayPog for S rank.

JayPog is a truly extraordinary pog. The combination of dead eyes, unkempt stubble, lazy beanie, and dark as night eye circles reveal the layers of depression, worthlessness, trashiness, and complete apathy of Jay. On the other hand, JayPog is a genuine pog, which is to say that it emotes joyful and surprised excitement to the maximum capacity of the human face. This is clearly shown here with a fully extended jaw, raised eyebrows, and the classic distended and open duck lips distinctive of a pog. The resulting irony between the waste of human life that is Jay and purest form of pog creates an absolutely unique viewing experience in which loathing and euphoria are perfectly conflicting, making JayPog the epitome of balance. Because of this, JayPog is also the extreme of versatility as by merely adjusting the layers of irony with which it is posted, JayPog can seamlessly convey any number of ideas all the while retaining the hallmark of top-tier pogs, being that it causes its viewers to involuntarily smile.

I've been playing this meta for years now and I feel like I have a firm understanding of the metagame trends and the top tier threats. With that being said some of these may seem controversial but i assure you that my opinions are correct. Here are my nominations

poggaroo: UR -> S
Poggaroo is a recent addition to the metagame, only becoming popularized in the past few months but its effects on the metgame cannot be understated as it has quickly risen to extremely high tiers of usage, even in 1695 jerks. This might just be the strongest pog of them all.

poggersfish: UR -> S
As we can see in this replay of poggersfish, we can see it is used in an animated pogging playstyle which is truly something unique to it. As it makes this playstyle viable by itself, it is definitely worthy of S rank.

poggoro: UR -> A-
Poggoro is a spin on the classic poggaroo archetype, the act of pogging whilst attempting to keep the bamboo stalk in its mouth fills you with determination.

PogLoom UR -> B
Imo PogLoom is an underrated threat in the Pogon Metagame. It's a perfect representation on how it feels to Spore that one threat that could have otherwise ruined your team. While the lips are a bit weak compared to the regular pog, it's otherwise a solid one.

Pogarina UR -> A
While a very cursed image, Pogarina has quickly cemented itself into the Pogon Metagame, being used across many servers. As we've seen in many a battle, Pogarina has quickly decimated any and all chats. Truly a scary pog to witness.

 

[Gleeboop]

Pigpog UR -> A

While this pog was created as a simple pog pun by pog freak, it had pogged to be a very pog pog in pogon. With its unique quality of being a pog that is the pog/pig dual type, it gains a unique place in the meta, allowing it to forever wall Pogteageist and Jaypog and deal with Pogloom and Poggerfish effectively. Its only stopped from being S by Pogaroo, while utterly walls it and beats it offensively, and with that being on every team, its sometimes hard to slot. Still Pig Pog is a solid metagam presance and definately pog enough for A.

Can somebody support me with this nom, I’m unfamiliar with the metagame but not ranking Unpoggaroo is a crime

Unpoggaroo UR —> B
Being the (admittedly rarer) twin of successful pog Poggaroo, Unpoggaroo is a strong anti-pog pick that, if played right, can sweep entire teams. It’s stats give it strong pog, that, combined with being an Unpog, allow it to decimate other pogs. However, being an Unpog is a double-edged sword, making it easily revenge-pogged by other pogs. Combined with low virability make it a very difficult pog for inexperienced poggers. In the hands of Elite poggers however, Unpoggaroo can definitely be a pog to reckon with, and hence deserves B-rank

Pogluga --> A

Pogluga is an image of a beluga whale displaying curiosity and surprise at the world outside its aquarium tank. It is very cute and has most of the features of the classic Pog. Also has a very strong matchup against Poggerfish, being a whale. The only weakness is that it isn't quite visceral enough to convey the sheer excitement that classic Pogs do.

BorisPog -> B

A relatively new fighter in the UK Pogitics OM, BorisPog has shown itself to be quite the adversary. However, while it does have the traits of a pog, it's somewhat lacking in some areas, such as the mouth. This, as well as its true strengths being unknown, leads me to nominate it to B tier. Could it be the pog to beat JayPog?

Nominating Poggaruno for A Rank

An up and coming local prodigy, Poggaruno has been met with great success in its glory thus far, already becoming an official emote of the 1v1 Discord server on its debut. One of Poggaruno's greatest strengths comes from the way it took aspects of the S tier Poggaroo and brought in brand new never-before-seen characteristics to set itself aside from the others. While still maintaining the immense strengths of Poggaroo, Poggaruno shakes up the metagame with its instantly distinctive coloring, vast wingspan, and beautiful flowing tail. Another source of Poggaruno's success is in the origin of its namesake. Pronunciation is an essential part of a viable pog, and Poggaruno excels in that. Utilizing the familiarity of Poggaroo with the sleekness of Articuno, it can be easily combined into the Poggaruno we all know of today. Combination is key to Poggaruno's full potential, and would definitely be an A tier choice in the hands of a skilled acolyte of pog.

Shocked Lapras pog is the most shocking Pog, and will make every pog shock. But it loses to Poggaruno which is prevelant. So a B+ will do for this fish thing.

Weepogbell has existed unknown to the masses for several generationss, quite frankly being the pioneer of the entire pogstyle. Alas, by the time Weepog finally found its pogging to be a viable strat, it had unfortunately succumbed to the ever growing power creep, being strictly outclassed as a pogger by several top pogemons.That being said, its simple yet surreal pogmanship imo earns it at least a C ranking on the chart.

Nominating PogGIF for A rank

PogGIF is a truly terrifying addition to Pogon, and it has come to make a very lasting impression. PogGIF holds an advantage over most of its competition due to its ability to move, garnering intrigue from users who wish to properly pog. That being said, even with movement, it just falls short on raw ingenuity and recognition that S rank pogs can attest to, which is why its nommed for A today.

Poggaruno's usage is dubious at best, only being applicable in very niche situations, and even then can be a hit or miss if not landing just right. A rank imo is simply too high of a spot here, and would much rather be more fitting lounging around in C ranks.

I strongly disagree with this nomination. I disagree with this nom. Poggersfish moves much more, as well as being much more immediately pog, hence a much bigger threat. This nearly complete eclipsing of PogGIF’s niche makes it a subpar option. C rank imo.

Poggers is godly, but without Mike "Insert whatever here" Ross, there would be no Cross Counter Tv and no Poggers!
Therefore, Mike Ross for S Tier as Mike Ross's impact on the meta game is right up there with OG Poggers.

Given recent events, it has become abundantly clear that consideration into the removal of PogChamp was necessary. PogChamp was a Pog that simply demanded usage, not only for the sake of its novelty and how easy it is to use, but also because of how it remained as one of very few pogs to stay consistently viable throughout the entire duration of the metagame's existence. PogChamp's overbearing presence warped the metagame around it since its inception, forcing each team to pack some form of direct counter to it, lest they wind up being victim to its common toxic strategies, while still falling prey to its plethora of other strategies, making PogChamp nigh impossible to predict against without often having to make the sacrifice of at least one of your Pogs.

With this recent shift in the metagame, PogChamp has been banned from the Pogon Metagame effective immediately.

While there always lies the chance for a resuspect down the road, odds are that this Pog won't be missed, especially once the metagame gets to develop and flourish with all the new potential Pogs and previously untapped strategies that will result from its absence.
