Pokémon has the chance to do something really freaking funny

So by this point, I’m sure most of us here have at least heard or seen the announcements of a Pokémon Presents in July and the release date for Pokémon Legends ZA, which I am going to assume will have one of its finial trailers shown off during this Pokémon Presents livestream. Why they announced this particular Pokémon Presents as early as they did (almost two months in advance as opposed to one week like they usually do) is beyond me, but that’s not why I came up with the idea to post this.

No, I’m more interested in something else. Some of you who know me on this site might recall that (almost) every year on August 7th, I’ve taken that day as a sort of personal holiday to honor and celebrate the popular Johto-native Psychic-Type Pokémon Espeon. At first glance you may ask, okay, cool, what does that have to do with anything? If you did ask something along those lines just now, I am so glad you did.

Allow me to describe the foundation for what’s been laid out in front of us here. The cult classic “Pokémon Colloseum” and “Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness” games were previously confirmed to be jointing the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube games catalog exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, the console itself launching with the GameCube games in roughly a week from today, give or take one day for any Day 1 Patches and my work calendar. There was no information regarding Nintendo Switch 2 during the February 27, 2025 (“Pokémon Day”) Pokémon Presents because the console had not been fully revealed yet. It makes perfect sense that we’re only going to start receiving information from The Pokémon Company about the new console now that it has been fully revealed.

However. Not only has the Switch 2 been fully revealed now, but the aforementioned Pokémon Presents has a decent chance of giving us information about Nintendo Switch Online if recent historical trends continue. Out of every month in year, August I believe has been the most common month for Pokémon games to be released for the service, including both of the past two Augusts in 2023 and 2024 having at least one Nintendo Switch Online Pokémon game release. You might be able to see where I’m going with this now, so I’ll just cut to the chase.

Pokémon. Colloseum. I would imagine they add that one first and then XD: Gale of Darkness after that because it just makes sense. Espeon. Is literally on the freaking box art and is one of your first Pokémon in the game alongside Umbreon. I really don’t think I need to spell this out. Pokémon. Make it happen. I believe in you. Heck, I’ll even give you 2026 if you want it because Pokémon’s 30th anniversary is next year. I don’t care how you do it, just make it happen. I’ve had a lot of strong memories with your franchise over the years and in that time I’ve had a lot of good feedback and a lot of criticisms. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to right all of the wrongs you have done and make your mark on history. All of the pieces are there. The ball is on your side of the court. Maybe it’s my fault for getting my hopes set way, way too high, but I know you can do this. You have the opportunity to create the single best memory I’ve ever had in maybe my entire life- so let’s make it happen. I believe in you.
