Zamazenta massively appreciates Future Sight support because its counterplay essentially just consists of Toxapex+a few other far more exploitable 'mons in practice, most of which also hate Future Sight. There isn't a whole lot to say here: Fighting STAB+Future Sight is a tried and true combo from the Urshifu-S days and this is basically just a slightly less immediately-potent version of that. They also have good defensive synergy: Zamazenta is both stupidly physically bulky thanks to Dauntless and naturally very specially fat anyway while Slowking is a more dedicated SpD sponge, and Zamazenta helps to deal with Dark-types like Weavile and Bisharp that Slowking hates. There isn't really much in the way of offensive 'mons that can force Zama out consistently, so Slowking doesn't do a whole lot to return the favour in that regard, but it can pivot through Volcarona for something that forces that out, which I guess is pretty nice. The main point of synergy is FuturePort though.

Hey there :afrostar:
Great submissions this week!!!

The voting system used is the Ranked Pairs format (the same as CAP uses). To vote you basically order your options like this: C>B>A>D, like this A>B=C>D, or like this D>C, assuming there are 4 partner options (A, B, C, and D). If you choose not to vote for all partners, the last partner(s) will be assumed to be last and valued equally if more than one got left out. Additionally, don't vote for your own submission. If you have any questions, by all means, ask me.

This rounds submissions are-

Onto the next round
Round 21
:ss/melmetal:
Melmetal @ Protective Pads
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 104 SpD / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Thunder Punch
- Superpower
- Thunder Wave

This round is Melmetal!!! Melmetal has had quite a journey in SSOU, from being banned in Home meta, to being suspected later on, to being pretty underwhelming in early DLC2 meta, and now to a healthy stance where it can thrive nicely. Melmetal is a very potent and bulky Physical threat capable of overwhelming teams while also spreading paralysis allowing it to flinch down / cripple some of its checks like Skarmory and Slowbro, while Protective Pads allows it to ignore their Rocky Helmets, and Static from Zapdos allowing it to spam Double Iron Bash more easily. With that being said what do you think pairs well with Melmetal?
You have 72 hours to post a partner, Happy Posting

Banned deucer.
dragapult

:ss/Dragapult:
Dragapult @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
- Hex

Dragapult is a formidable partner to Melmetal, as it offers a Fighting-type immunity, as it can switch into problematic Fighting-type attacks for it. It also is great at bringing in Melmetal with U-turn on its checks such as specially defensive Clefable, Mandibuzz, and Blissey, So melmetal can damage them severely, or in the case of Clefable KO it on the spot. Dragapult also has an easier time to use Choice Specs boosted Hex with the help of Melmetals Thunder Wave. Melmetal can also lure in Volcarona with Thunder Wave and makes it useless. Thunder Wave is also able to para Heatran and Dragapult profits from the para spam which Melmetal provides.
In overall these two Pokemon have great synergy and are amazing partners, as they profit from each other, not only in their typing, but also with their utility they provide for each other. :melmetal:  :dragapult:

substitute zapdos
:ss/zapdos:
Zapdos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 148 HP / 108 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Discharge
- Hurricane
- Roost

Zapdos is an awesome Pokémon when paired with Melmetal. Firstly, it offers ground immunity and resistance to fighting, which, along with its great defensive stats, allows it to keep many mons in check that would easily beat your Melmetal black and blue. In addition to this Zapdos is also a very strong specially offensive threat that must be dealth with, but of course, a quick double into Melmetal can usually cause a lot of trouble. If left unchecked, Zapdos easily chips away some of Melmetals more pronounced checks like Landorus, Garchomp, Heatran, Swampert, etc., while also being able to handle its counters (mainly defensive water types).

Defog Zapdos is another valid option as it provides a safe switch for Melmetal against many checks and counters, however this set is definitely worse against the Pokémon mentioned above and doesn’t provide much of the offensive pressure, that the substitute version offers. That being said, the combo usually relies heavily on having bulky pivot Pokémon in the back that can take a hit, as these two are both quite frail/dont like chip damage.

Lastly it's woth metioning that thunder wave + substitute is a combo that, although relying on hax, should not be underestimated

rillaboom (slowking is too boring and obvious)

:sm/rillaboom:
Rillaboom @ Life Orb
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Grassy Glide
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch / Superpower / Wood Hammer / whatever

This could be Choice Band, but SD is more fun and due to how surgical Melmetal is with Rillaboom's counters I think SD is better alongside it.
Melmetal has much more to offer to Rillaboom than viceversa, but Grassy Terrain alone is amazing support for this specific Melmetal set. Without Earthquake, Melmetal takes full advantages of the terrain by gaining passive recovery (which unfortunately loses by running those oversized pads it needs to cover its punches over leftovers) and having opposing Earthquakes weakened. This is especially glorious when the Melmetal set in question has no Ice Punch and no Toxic to combat them.
Melmetal, on the other hand, is extremely dangerous for Rillaboom's counters/checks. The combination of Protective Pads and Thunder Wave is extremely effective at crippling Skarmory, Corviknight, Bulkarona, the rare Moltres, RH Tangrowth and RH Toxapex. Only Zapdos is left unchecked, but if your team doesn't handle Zapdos well you could just slap Ice Punch over Superpower as SD Rillaboom has its means to dispatch Ferrothorn.

Jolly Nature on Rillaboom matters against bulky Zapdos, offensive Heatran and Modest 95s like Kyurem and Lele, otherwise just go Adamant and kill everything. SD, Broken Glide and Knock Off are staples of SD Rillaboom, while in the last slot you can be a little bit more adventurous. Fighting coverage is a no brainer, especially if you run Jolly. Drain Punch offsets LO recoil and still has enough power to OHKO Heatran and Kyurem with minimal chip damage. Superpower is worse because of its side effect but it's more spammable early game. Wood Hammer is kinda underappreciated on SD sets due to LO recoil and redundance with Broken Glide, but it's worth mentioning due to the simple fact that it murks Toxapex at +2 and can let it act as a wallbreaker early game, due to how dumb that move is when boosted by STAB, Grassy Terrain and Life Orb. Protective Pads itself is an interesting item for SD Rillaboom: it loses a lot of power but it gain more leeway and removes risks in firing off its attack.

Victini @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- Glaciate
- U-turn
Victini is a really cool partner for melmetal since it lures and takes 2 of its most common checks, landorus-therian and garchomp and bulky waters in general, it also soaks fighting and fire types attacks for it while bringing it in on its checks with uturn and keeping momenteum while also taking advantage of melmetal's para so it could wallbreak more easily
These pokemon have some great synergy but make sure to have a check for faster ground types that give these 2 mons trouble

Reserving Zeraora
:ss/zeraora:
Zeraora @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Plasma Fists
- Volt Switch
- Toxic
- Knock Off

I like Zeraora as a partner for this Melmetal set because it can put grounds like lando-t and hippowdon on a timer with toxic, which helps melmetal break through them faster. It can also remove leftovers from both with knock off, to stop passive recovery. It rounds out the offensive core of the team in the form of speed control/revenge killing, and a late game cleaner which a breaker like Melmetal naturally appreciates. It helps Melmetal accomplish that job by whittling down physically defensive cores alongside it. Additionally, since this Melmetal set is particularly annoyed by Zapdos, Zeraora's electric immunity can stop Zapdos from gaining momentum with volt switch, while also threatening to put it on a timer. On that note, Zeraora itself can generate momentum for Melmetal in the form of volt switch.

- Protect / Thunder Wave
Wisport Clefable is a good teammate for Melmetal as they together make a Steel-Fairy core that can spread status all over the opposing team to support the setup sweepers in your team. As this set has Max SpD investment, Clefable can lidiate with some threats like Dragapult and Volcarona and cripple them with Thunder Wave, while Melmetal can take on some physical threats like Rillaboom or Zeraora and then get its health back thanks to the Wish support. You could even add another Pokémon, like Tankchomp or Heatran, to make this an excellent defensive core while also crippling even more the opposing team with hazards support.

this is one groovy sprite
Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator

- Earthquake
OR
Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Earthquake
- Sleep Powder
- Leech Seed
Tangrowth :tangrowth: is a great teammate for Melmetal :melmetal: because Melmetal :melmetal: + Tangrowth :tangrowth: forms a great defensive core. They cover each other's weaknesses (apart from Fire-types) and can handle each others' checks. Tangrowth :tangrowth: can handle Landorus-T :landorus-t:, Kartana :kartana: (SD variant), and Garchomp :garchomp:, common OU Pokemon who threaten and hit Melmetal :melmetal: with supereffective moves. On the other hand, Melmetal :melmetal: handles most Tangrowth :tangrowth: checks such as the birds (:Corviknight:, :skarmory:, :mandibuzz:), and spreads paralysis, helping both Melmetal :melmetal: and Tangrowth :tangrowth: (and the rest of the team) with speed control.
The AV version handles special attackers like Dragapult :dragapult: and the Tapus (:tapu koko:, :tapu lele:, :tapu fini:), while the Rocky Helmet version handles Rillaboom :rillaboom:, Garchomp :garchomp:, and Landorus-T :landorus-therian:. Tangrowth's :tangrowth: set depends on your personal preference and other team members.
Melmetal :melmetal: and Tangrowth :tangrowth: requires a defensive check to Heatran :heatran:, so adding Slowking :slowking: or Toxapex :toxapex: to the core would form a great team core (adding Slowking :slowking: or Toxapex :toxapex: would make it a semi-regenerator core).

⚠ Trade Offer ⚠

Melmetal Receives: _____________________________________________________________________________________ Landorus-Therian Receives:
- Ground check ____________________________________________________________________________________________- Ice check
- Electric check ____________________________________________________________________________________________- Clefable check
- Heatran check ___________________________________________________________________________________________ - Rillaboom check
- Pivot support ____________________________________________________________________________________________ - Tapu Lele check
- Toxic support ____________________________________________________________________________________________ - Wallbreaking support
- Hazard support___________________________________________________________________________________________- Thunder Wave support

Lando-T is a good partner for Melmetal because it can switch into several of Melmetal's checks, such as Garchomp, opposing Lando-T, Tapu Koko, and Heatran, and cripple the former two with Toxic. Lando-T can also use U-Turn to bring Melmetal in safely, and provides Stealth Rock to further chip at Melmetal's answers. In return, Melmetal prevents Kyurem, Rillaboom, and Tapu Lele from freely spamming Ice Beam, Wood Hammer, and Psyshock, respectively, and beats Clefable easily. Thunder Wave annoys most of Lando-T's switch-ins as well. To phrase it more explicitly, this forms a Volt/Turn + Wallbreaker core and has good defensive synergy. They will still require a teammate to deal with offensive Heatran (Lando-T can't stay in if it's not paralyzed) and bulky Water-types.

In addition to providing key Fire and Fighting-type resistances for Melmetal, Slowking offers Future Sight support that helps it break through physically defensive walls like Toxapex, Buzzwole, and Tangrowth. Melmetal's Special Defense investment lets it check threats to Slowking like Tapu Koko, Dragapult, and Clefable, and it can get switched in safely via Teleport.
