Pokemon, a science

Okay, so my friends and i were having a discussion about team galactic, and pokemon evolutions and stuff, and of course, i remarked that apparently when pokemon evolve they give off energy.

so we tried to classify whether or not this was similar to nuclear fusion, even though fusion really isnt happening as nothing is fusing. so yeah, we just kept on discussing the possibilities and of course, what this would mean to science if pokemon actually gave off energy if they evolve, which doesnt make sense entropy wise

but then! just then, i thought, what if its like beta radiation, because when pokemon raise their levels, they become unstable, and of course the metabolism of the pokemon as they battle would increase, which would allow for more energy absorbtion leading onto evolution...

any thoughts on this?

Oi this impossible to do. Science and pokemon don't mix. Technically nothing should be able to hit macargo because of how hot it is. Or for that matter live on the surface of the earth without burning straight through the surface.

I like linking Pokemon and (pseudo)science a lot (even as a fun way of flexing my imagination). For example, to me Butterfree learns naturally Psychic attacks as a better mode of defense against native bug/poison Pokemon. Charmander learns Metal Claw naturally in FR/LG but not in DP because its Kanto diet has a high mineral content compared to Sinnoh's.

However, I'm afraid such endeavours are a losing battle. For every rationalisation one pulls of, there are many more things such as these, off the top of my head:

How can fish-like Pokemon battle on land?

Conversely, how can Pokemon which cannot swim battle Swimmers when you surf? (As illustrated here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/58362532/)

How does Metronome, Mirror Move etc. work for moves that the Pokemon is clearly not equipped to use? (The infamous "Snorlax used Fly!")

How does Perish Song work? (I got up to "time-delayed aural-neural stimulus" until I realised how ridiculous this sounded).

Ghost Pokemon can't really be ghosts, since they can faint, eat, have mass, can be hit by most types of attacks, and they can breed (not to mention CROSSbreed).

And then there's the type matchups. If Flying types can fly away from Ground attacks, why can they be, say, Bitten? Does Poochyena jump sky high to deliver the attack? Why are Bug type attacks super effective on Psychics? Why do Bugs receive half damage from Fighting attacks?

Some things in the Pokemon game mechanics exist not because they make sense, but to try and make the game balanced. They can't "be explained"...

Another couple of questions to throw out:
Why is it that if Torterra is the continent pokemon, they aren't that big at all.....?

And then there is the whole pokemon egg mystery....

Another question would be: Why is U-Turn a bug move? Most pokemon that learn it aren't even bugs.....

Yes.. I wish I could make pokemon make sense.... and sometimes I do... But for the most part, It boggles my mind. I guess that is a little of the nostalgia right?

i think for the metronome one, we have to look deper than classical mechanics, obviously snorlax is too fat to fly, but in the quantum level... so we observe quantum levitation as a variant of quantum tunnelling

speaking of quantum pokemon physics, anyone heard the pokeball photon theory?

I find such things interesting, and enjoy pondering over them while I play, but I am so far past too tired to follow along with you guys right now... And no, I haven't heard that theory o.O

Some more questions would be:

How can Zubat use Fly to carry any trainer anywhere?

And what about surf? I do not see a poliwag, squirtle, chinchou carrying anyone, anywhere comfortably.

You just grab onto them, and they pull you through the water ;)

But! How exactly is it possible for a 3 ft tall baby turtle to carry a person easily 3 times their own weight for any large distance (Such as the ocean)....... I mean, even if it could.... that would have to be unconfortable for the trainer. -_-

"Oh.... Ooops. Sorry bout that branch... and that gyrados... and that small island. I'll watch where I'm going next time." >.>;;;

lol your point is well taken, but consider that aquatic critters are naturally powerful swimmers, because if they don't, they'll get eaten. A Squirtle who needs to swim strong and fast to stay alive wouldn't have any problem dragging a 4'8" 85 lb. child along behind him ;)

And of course...... I now feel fat. -_-
What about a 6'0" tall male that is 175 lbs?
Where is the love!? T_T

why can mew learn any thing

technically, he can only learn tms and hms which make sense if you think of mew as some kind of original pokemon in terms of darwinistic evolution

from mew, other species divergently evolved, haha, evolved...

and so mew can learn all the tms and hms which can be considered primal moves, and those pokemon like marowak, who cant learn surf and stuff, learns exclusive moves like bone club to make up for its evolutionary progress

or something

I'm 6'0'' 210 lbs. No love for j00. Also, I think that's around the height and weight of your in-game character. Close enough for me at least.

iirc it can't learn fly, only Crobat does. I remember in gsc I wanted him to be my flier but I had to wait ages to get it to evolve.
I like related some science into pokemon, like when we did Genetics Biology last year as part of Science I learnt all this stuff and it stuck in my head since I related alot of it to breeding in Pokemon.

Actually, the in game character is around 4'8" and is ~84 lbs. -_- lol

@Mass: Well, either way. How could pidgey fly you? >.>
I mean, he is 1'0" tall 4 lbs bird!!! IMO, I would NOT want to hold my hopes and dreams with that thing when 200 ft in the air. >_<

Well maybe your Pidgey sucks mine is super awesome! Mine can fly a Snorlax! Of course most stuff like this can't make sense in Pokemon, but that's just how it is. It does make good conversations to talk about lol.

Yes.... fond memories..... I will never forget when my Pidgeot Mirror Moved Metal Claw.... The idea of my bird using a move that involves claws confounded me and my friends for days. ^-^

Wait, don't birds have claws on their legs?

How about Pidgeot Mirroring, say, Vine Whip? Or String Shot? Or Spike Cannon?
