pokerus

Congrats on finding the incredibly rare pokerus virus. Here's what you do:

To maintain the active pokerus status, you need to have the infected pokemon in a PC box when your DS clock hits midnight. In a box, the status can never become inactive. If an infected pokemon is in your party at midnight, I believe it's a 50% chance that said pokemon will lose the active status.

To spread the virus to other pokemon, keep a pokemon with the active status in your party and battle a few times, against random pokemon. The virus should spread to at least one other pokemon. Spreading can take as little as one battle or as many as five, in my experience.

Active status means only that the infected pokemon can spread pokerus to others. If your pokemon has the inactive status, it still gets the benefits of pokerus (2x as many EV points from a given battle), but can't spread the virus.

If you have pokerus in Emerald and Pal Park an infected pokemon over, it can still spread the virus. Interesting fact.

you ussually get the virus by battling a wild poke that is already infected. i actually had pokerus traded over to me by one of my friends unknowingly, and then caught a noctowl with it the next day. plain and simply it's just a matter of luck of catching a wild poke that has the virus

I actually don't believe this to be true. That's to say, you catch pokerus from battling an already infected pokemon, but I've caught way to many pokemon with pokerus for it to be a coincidence. I think that when you battle a wild pokemon with an infected pokemon, the wild pokemon will catch the virus, similar to how pokemon on your own team will catch it. Just a theory that serves no logical purpose in the game.

When you faint the enemy pokemon... how are they giving it to other pokemon? I doubt they would've done that. It's extra work, and would be completely unneeded.

And I'd like to point out that you can't just battle a wild pokemon. You have to use a contact move on them afaik.

Interestingly, so many people have caught the Pokerus, even though it's supposed to be rarer than encountering a shiny.

Regarding Pokerus, I had a Mewtwo with Pokerus in my LG cart that i kept Boxed at all times.Today, I pal-parked it. When i checked its status it said that the Pokerus passed and it had a small face next to the picture. I am sure I checked whether it had pokerus or not before transferring and it did. Needless to say, I'm pissed off because I got 6 pokemons to EV train and the Mewtwo was the only one that had pokerus :(

So can anyone test this further?

Huh, that's interesting. My Pal Parked Golduck still had active pokerus when I transfered it over. Are you sure you didn't do anything to make your Mewtwo lose pokerus in D/P? Like leave it in your party at midnight?

No, I just boxed it when the pal-park guy asked me for it.

Person to person transferring is making pokerus very common, especially with GTS in place. One of my friends got pokerus off GTS, and has spread it to at least 3 people. I've seen people give out pokerus too, since you can spread it indefinitely in your own team.
