Polteageist takes advantage of the tier's limited checks to Ghost-types to become a deadly late-game cleaner with Shell Smash. Even when the opposing team is left quite healthy, Stored Power after Shell Smash can outright take out bulky Pokemon like Hippowdon and Toxapex as well as other offensive Pokemon like Eternatus and Gyarados, so Polteageist can cause substantial damage against varying teams while not being overly dependent on the game's state. Low bulk and reliance on setup to overcome mediocre damage output can be dealt with by equipping Focus Sash to allow Polteageist to use Shell Smash at full health. Also, a potential Weak Armor activation boosts Polteageist's Speed to the levels where Choice Scarf Ditto becomes the only realistic option to outspeed it. Polteageist's offensive capabilities coming from Shell Smash can be passed down with Baton Pass.

With Substitute users like Zacian-C and Gyarados as teammates, varying game plans can be drafted depending on what Pokemon is an ideal candidate for boosts and if possible ways to circumvent Ditto should be used. To benefit Polteageist and offensive teammates, entry hazards can be used to weaken Pokemon like Zacian-C that require some prior damage to be taken out by +2 Polteageist or lure in defensive Pokemon for Polteageist to safely set up, potentially even benefiting from opposing Defog in the process. Offensive anti-hazard Pokemon like Excadrill are also appropriate choices to ensure that Polteageist's Focus Sash remains intact.

Since Focus Sash is being used to increase opportunity to setup, there should be some mention of the anti-hazard Pokemon that structure well with Polteageist to ensure that its sash actually stays intact.
