Porygon2 [QC 1/2]

[Overview]
With naturally high HP, access to Eviolite, and armed with the ability Download and the lesser used Analytic, Porygon2 maintains a good balance of defense and offense as a Trick Room setter in the format.

*85/90/95 Bulk combined with Eviolite affords P2 immense bulk, surviving most Z moves, even those boosted by weather and terrain

*105 SpA combined with both its ability Download and its movepool (Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball) allows for offensive pressure lacking in other TR setters (e.g. Gothitelle, Cresselia)

*Movepool of Icy Wind, Toxic, and Ally Switch allow P2 functions outside of Trick Room
*Threatens common Pokemon in the format (Landorus, Zapdos, Salamence) with super effective attacks; can not be removed from the field easily

*Often requires Z move + follow up to KO P2
*Recover provides consistent recovery unhindered by weather

*Ally Switch + Bulk!

*Required to run Eviolite, all other items pale in comparison

*Incredibly susceptible to Taunt
*Really, REALLY does not appreciate Knock Off; P2 loses most of its bulk without Eviolite

*Without Download boost, P2’s offense can be rather lackluster; OHKOs turn into 2HKOs

*Download boost is not always guaranteed with SpD investment being random
*Does not threaten mons outside of super effective coverage; bulky fire types often lead to a stand still

[Set]
Name: Bulky Offense!
Move 1: Ice Beam
Move 2: Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball
Move 3: Recover
Move 4: Trick Room
Item: Eviolite
Ability: Download

Nature: Calm/Sassy
EVs: 244 HP / 140 Def / 4 SpA / 116 SpD / 4 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk / (31 or 0 Spe)

Set Comments
*Ice Beam crucially pressures Landorus and Salamence, two of the most common Pokemon in the format

*With Download Boost, +1 SpA Porygon 2 Ice Beam threatens OHKOs on incredibly bulky Salamence, non AV Landorus, 2HKO on Tapu Bulu

*Thunderbolt provides coverage on mons resistant to Ice Beam, can also pick up 2HKOs with Electric Terrain

*Thunderbolt with either Electric Terrain or Download Boost can 2HKO bulky Tapu Fini and Charizard Y, among others
*Shadow Ball can be used to underspeed and knock out Aegislash or Marowak

*Recover is necessary to sustain P2; it makes P2 a nuisance that the enemy team either has to ignore until the end or nuke with Z moves

*Even when faced with Z Moves, P2's 244/116+ Special Defense allows it to survive Max Special Attack Z Moves from most of the format
*On the defense side, 244/140 allows P2 to survive a +6 Azumarill Aqua Jet (and counter KO with Thunderbolt) and Fightinium Z from Kartana
*31 Speed IVs Neutral Nature (Calm) allows P2 to hit 81 Speed
*However, 81 Speed speed ties with minimum speed Cresselia, so you may want to remove 4 EVs from Speed if you want to underspeed
*0 Speed IVs -Spe Nature allows P2 to hit 58 Speed, underspeeding minimum speed Tyranitar and most Aegislash
*Pairs well with Fake Out support, especially Incineroar as it threatens LeleGross and Amoongus while helping set up Trick Room

*Scrafty is also viable, providing Fake Out, Intimidate, and Snarl Support

*Pairs well with Ghost types, as Ally Switch can cover and neutralize both Pokemon's weaknesses

*Currently most commonly paired with both Mega Charizard X and Y as P2 deters Intimidators such as Landorus, Salamence, and Gyarados with OHKOs using Ice Beam and Thunderbolt

*Listed Below are a Other Options for Moves

*Foul Play OHKOs most +6 Snorlax as well as Aegislash-Blade, while also being able to hit common threats like Mega Metagross for lots of damage
*Trick Room is actually not a requirement, as P2 can function perfectly well outside of Trick Room with its natural bulk and coverage options

*Ally Switch allows P2 to redirect Super Effective attacks from partners, soaking up damage with its high defenses
*Toxic can also be used to force opponents to switch out their boosted Pokemon, such as CM Cresselia, QD Volcarona, or CurseLax

Drop Icy Wind, include Foul Play as an option. Clean up the attacking slot. I would say make the move slots Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball and include Toxic and Ally Switch with Foul Play in the Other Options. Indicate how it really likes to be partnered with Pokemon like Charizard-Y, where it can defensively respond to threatening Pokemon like Landorus-T and Salamence. Also indicate other Trick Room Pokemon like Mega Camerupt and Snorlax as prospetive partners. Take special notice that Shadow Ball Porygon2 is a Trick Room Pokemon that beats Ghost-type Pokemon like Aegislash, and emphasize how valuable that is.

Thanks for the feedback! If there's anything else I should change before QC, let me know
Edit: Waiting for QC

ansena Overall I think your write-up is ok. My main criticisms are:
  • Too much focus on OOs in particular Ally Switch. Other than those moves with a main slash, all the other moves are used on <10% of Porygon2 on PGL. They deserve a mention but not this much attention
  • More emphasis of Trick Room. That's the main reason people use Porygon2, and you currently mention Ally Switch more often than Trick Room!
  • Team Options should have more focus on the more common teammates for Porygon2. Sidenote: the well-known common team archetype for Porygon2 is MGross/Incin/Koko/Bulu/Pory2/Araq. This has some variations like replacing Bulu with MVen, and MGross + Bulu with MGard + Kartana. Pory2's role is to provide a TR mode alongisde Arquanid, where BoltBeam coverage complements Araquanid's Water STAB very well. Incineroar and Bulu/MVen also benefit from TR, and Pory2 benefits from Koko's Electric Terrain.
  • Analytic is strangely only mentioned in the Introduction and nowhere else in the text, not even in OO. I don't think it should be mentioned anywhere since it gels terribly with Trick Room and its usage reflects this, easily being the least common of Porygon2's abilities.
Bold = comments, italics = added, red = moved text
With naturally high HP, access to Eviolite, and armed with the ability Download and the lesser used Analytic, Porygon2 maintains a good balance of defense and offense as a Trick Room setter in the format. I like the second part of this sentence. The crossed part contains an inaccuracy (85 base HP, though not bad, isn't naturally high) and shouldn't have Analytic mentioned at all. Furthermore your next two points explain what you're trying to achieve in the crossed out section very well
*85/90/95 Bulk combined with Eviolite affords P2 immense bulk, surviving most Z moves, even those boosted by weather and terrain
Mention reliable recovery in the form of Recover complements Porygon2's bulk, making it difficult to KO Porygon2
Often requires Z move + follow up to KO P2. Moved point here as they're very related
*105 SpA combined with both its ability Download and its movepool (Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball) allows for offensive pressure lacking in other TR setters (e.g. Gothitelle, Cresselia)
*Threatens common Pokemon in the format (Landorus, Zapdos, Salamence) with super effective attacks, especially considering it can not be removed from the field easily Likewise this ties in to its movepool. The italics part was more to link the two parts of the line as otherwise the latter part was unrelated.
*Recover provides consistent recovery unhindered by weather

*Movepool of Icy Wind, Toxic, and Ally Switch allow P2 functions outside of Trick Room
*Ally Switch + Bulk!

As a general rule, I wouldn't mention OO material in the overview

*Required to run Eviolite, all other items pale in comparison
*Incredibly susceptible to Taunt
*Really, REALLY does not appreciate Knock Off which is very common; P2 loses most of its bulk without Eviolite. Knock Off is currently very common in the metagame, mostly thanks to Incineroar but also Assault Vest Kartana
*Download boost is not always guaranteed
*Without Download boost, P2’s offense can be rather lackluster; OHKOs turn into 2HKOs. Minor, I just feel these points flow better in this order
*Does not threaten mons outside of super effective coverage; bulky fire types often lead to a stand still
*Mention it is set-up bait for Pokemon who do not fear its coverage such as Snorlax
*Also add a line about competition with Cress who is Pory2's biggest competition on a team. Mention briefly what benefits Cress has over Pory2 and vice versa. I feel this is warranted given that Cress is the #1 bulky TR user and Pory2 is a close #2

Name: Bulky Offense!
Move 1: Trick Room
Move 2: Ice Beam
Move 3: Thunderbolt / Shadow Ball
Move 4: Recover
Item: Eviolite
Ability: Download
Nature: Sassy/Calm
EVs: 244 HP / 140 Def / 4 SpA / 116 SpD / 4 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk / (0 or 31 Spe)
I like to mention the moves in terms of importance. Trick Room is the main reason to use Porygon2. Sassy is Porygon2's most common nature and, in addition to pairing better with TR, should be slashed first.

Set Comments
*add a point about Trick Room

*Ice Beam crucially pressures Landorus and Salamence, two of the most common Pokemon in the format
*With Download Boost, +1 SpA Porygon 2 Ice Beam threatens OHKOs on incredibly bulky Salamence, non AV Landorus, 2HKO on Tapu Bulu
Note that Download giving a SpA boost is inconsistent
*Thunderbolt provides coverage on mons resistant to Ice Beam, can also pick up 2HKOs with Electric Terrain
*Thunderbolt with either Electric Terrain or Download Boost can 2HKO bulky Tapu Fini and Charizard Y, among others
*Shadow Ball can be used to underspeed and knock out Aegislash or Marowak. You should be more clear with "underspeed". Shadow Ball certain doesn't help with outspeeding things. I think you're getting at underspeeding Aegislash (at worse speed-tieing since they have identical base speeds), but Marowak underspeeds you in TR. Perhaps you could remove the mention of underspeed and state that with min speed, you can attack Aegislash after it moves when outside TR to hit it in Blade form
*0 Speed IVs -Spe Nature allows P2 to hit 58 Speed, underspeeding minimum speed Tyranitar and most Aegislash mentioning more important spread first
*31 Speed IVs Neutral Nature (Calm) allows P2 to hit 81 Speed
*However, 81 Speed speed ties with minimum speed Cresselia, so you may want to remove 4 EVs from Speed if you want to underspeed

*Pairs well with Fake Out support, especially Incineroar as it threatens LeleGross and Amoongus while helping set up Trick Room
*Scrafty is also viable, providing Fake Out, Intimidate, and Snarl Support
*Pairs well with Ghost types, as Ally Switch can cover and neutralize both Pokemon's weaknesses. You could mention Ghost-types when you mention Ally Switch in your OO options, but it shouldn't be mentioned here.
*Mention some allies who benefit from TR support - Snorlax, Araquanid and Mega Camerupt come to mind. Araquanid in particular benefits as Porygon2's BoltBeam coverage complements Araquanid's Water STAB very well. You should also mention that both Incineroar and Scrafty benefit from TR

*Currently most commonly paired with both Mega Charizard X and Y as P2 deters Intimidators such as Landorus, Salamence, and Gyarados with OHKOs using Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. This is erroneous. Charizard is the 8th most common partner (including both megas) on PGL, and Charizard Y doesn't fear those Pokemon because of Intimidate. You can still mention Charizard as a partner if you reword this. I'd also remove Gyarados - Gyarados is both rare and not usually a check to Charizard
*Could mention Tapu Koko on semi-room teams for Electric Terrain support to boost TBolt and provide sleep-immunity so you can set up TR in front of Amoonguss

*Listed Below are a Other Options for Moves
*Foul Play OHKOs deals heavy damage to most +6 Snorlax as well as Aegislash-Blade, while also being able to hit common threats like Mega Metagross for lots of damage. Foul Play does not OHKO most +6 Snorlax since most Belly Drum Snorlax have heavy physical EV investment; it will easily 2HKO though.
*Trick Room is actually not a requirement, as P2 can function perfectly well outside of Trick Room with its natural bulk and coverage options
*Ally Switch allows P2 to redirect Super Effective attacks from partners, soaking up damage with its high defenses
*Toxic can also be used to force opponents to switch out their boosted Pokemon, such as CM Cresselia, QD Volcarona, or CurseLax. Generally set-up Mons don't actually switch-out though it is effective at hindering their sweeping potential. More generally Toxic places opposing Pokemon on a timer which works well to slowly KO Pokemon who cannot outdamage Porygon's Recover in time
*Mention Trace and explain a bit about it. Can copy some useful abilities like Intimidate, Flash Fire (sorry Heatran) and Parental Bond. Can backfire if Traces an opposing Tapu's terrain
EDIT: also remove a space after each asterisk. That's for coding to fit on the website.

If you update my check, I'll then give this a second look before giving it a QC stamp.
