[OVERVIEW]
Primeape can function as either a revenge killer with its Choice Scarf set or a fearsome wallbreaker when holding a Choice Band. Primeape, being one of the few Fighting-types with access to U-turn, is beneficial for providing momentum for its teammates and pivoting out on predicted switches. Primeape also has access to Defiant, which allows it to deter Defog and punish Intimidate users such as Granbull and Qwilfish with a boosted move Gunk Shot or Earthquake. Despite these attributes, Primeape has mediocre bulk and struggles to break past bulky Ghost-, Poison-, and Psychic-types without a moderate amount of team support. Furthermore, common balance walls such as Gourgiest-XL, Weezing, and Musharna make using STAB Close Combat a liability. Base 95 Speed is also a crowded Speed tier for non-Choice Scarf users, with Primeape finding trouble effectively revenge killing Jynx, Silvally Ghost-and -Fairy, and Haunter without forcing a Speed tie. Lastly, the popularity of threats such as Mesprit, Qwilfish, and Archeops means Primeape now has checks on offense and balance that threaten it while locked into Close Combat or revenge kill non-Choice Scarf variants.

Moves
========
Close Combat is Primeape's main STAB move that has a very high Base Power and can demolish opposing teams that lack appropriate checks, especially after a Defiant boost. U-turn is handy for gaining momentum, giving a free switch in to whatever Pokemon the opponent sends out, while also being able to hit Psychic-types such as Mesprit and Musharna, super effectively. Earthquake is used as coverage to hit Qwilfish, a Pokemon that would check Primeape otherwise. Stone Edge can be used instead if your team needs a reliable way to revenge kill or hit Flying-types hard such as Swanna, Charizard, and Togetic. However, Gunk Shot is useful coverage that gives Primeape a way of KOing Fairy-type Pokemon such as Granbull and Togetic.

The given Attack and Speed EVs maximize Primeape's cleaning and revenge killing capabilities. Defiant allows Primeape to punish a predicted Defog from Pokemon such as Skuntank. A Jolly nature is used because Adamant doesn't score any extra notable OHKOs and makes it struggle revenge killing base 95 Speed Pokemon and base 90 speed Pokemon at +1 Speed, such as Liigant and Oriocorio-G.
Usage Tips
========
The main function of Choice Scarf Primeape is to grab momentum and revenge kill foes. Close Combat is Primeape's main revenge killing tool and its coverage, most notably Earthquake, should be used sparingly because it's weak and easily taken advantage of, allowing Pokemon like Charizard and Liligant to set up for free. You should use U-turn every time you expect a defensive switch-in to be brought in in order to keep momentum up. Be aware that Primeape isn't all that bulky, so be careful when pivoting into Defog users such as Skuntank, Lurantis, and Togetic.
Team Options
========
Primeape fits well on teams that need a reliable revenge killer. Entry hazards increase Primeape's capability of pressuring its checks and counters. Flying checks such as Regirock and Golem are beneficial for when you predict wrong with Close Combat versus the opposing team. Lastly, Pursuit support from the likes of Absol, Skuntank, and Liepard is appreciated to deal with Psychic and Ghost-types that take on Close Combat.

Moves
========
By virtue of its Attack stat, the Attack boost from Choice Band, and its ability Defiant, Primeape is a very strong wallbreaker. As a result, Close Combat is a very strong STAB move that can punch holes in opposing teams. U-turn is used to gain momentum, giving a free switch in to a teammate if the foe switches out or you predict correctly versus a check or counter, while also doing a decent amount of damage to Psychic-types. Earthquake is the recommended coverage over Stone Edge, because it hits Qwilfish harder. Gunk Shot is great coverage to have on Primeape because it OHKOes Fairy-types such as Togetic and Granbull. Alternatively, Stone Edge can work over Earthquake if you want to revenge kill Flying-types such as Swanna, Charizard, and Oriocorio-G.

With a Choice Band maximizing the damage output of its moves, Primeape can 2HKO a large portion of the metagame with its spammable Close Combat. 252 Attack and 252 Speed EVs allow Primeape to hit as hard and be as fast as possible. A Jolly nature is ideal, since without it, Primeape is vulnerable to base 90 Speed Pokemon and using Adamant doesn't allow Primeape to get notable KOs anyway. Defiant allows Primeape to pivot into and punish Skuntank on a predicted Defog.
Usage Tips
========
Close Combat is a very spammable move and, coupled with its high Base Power and a Choice Band, it can severely dent teams. Choice Band Primeape is best utilized as an early- or mid-game wallbreaker. Generally, you want to get Primeape on the field as often as possible for it to take advantage of its wallbreaking opportunities for its teammates, usually a late-game cleaner or sweeper. Primeape has decently strong coverage, so feel free to use whatever works in different situations to avoid being set up on by Pokemon that tank Close Combat. With that said, using Primeape with Choice Band requires a decent amount of prediction, so playing aggressively will get the most out of it; you have to be very careful about getting set up on if you are locked into Earthquake and the opponent brings in a Pokemon like Liligant.
Team Options
========
Entry hazard support from the likes of Qwilfish and Ferroseed is helpful for the passive damage they provide because Primeape pivots into and out of the field, making wallbreaking easier for Choice Banded sets. Primeape does not like to switch into entry hazards itself, though, as they can wear it down fast so Skunktank is a perfect partner that can remove hazards, while also being able to Pursuit trap Ghost- and Psychic-types for Primeape. Pokemon with access to Rapid Spin such as Hitmonchan also make good partners. A setup Sweeper such as Swords Dance Kabutops is also a good partner for Primeape because Choice Band Primeape breaks through Kabutop's checks, making it easier to set up. Furthermore, Pokemon that are immune to Will-O-wisp such as Pyroar and Magmortar are good teammates. Finally, Pursuit trappers such as Absol make for good teammates to Primeape, as they can trap Psychic-types. Absol also appreciates Granbull and Qwilfish being weakened.

Other Options
=============
Punishment is an option for beating Psychic-types such as Musharna, but it should only be used on the Choice Band set, as it's inferior to other coverage moves most of the time. Additionally, Z-Encore is a solid option, as it locks the foe into a move and gives Primeape a Speed boost; however, despite these attributes, it utilizes the Z-Move slot and isn't very strong if Primeape doesn't get a Defiant boost. However, Encore can be used as an option with a Z-Crystal such as Fightium Z and Poisonium Z to break Pokemon and force out Pokemon with an easy U-turn. Furthermore, a set with Life Orb can be used if you don't want Primeape to get locked into a move, though this leaves it outsped by Pokemon such as Liligant and Haunter, because it isn't holding Choice Scarf, and it also does not have the sheer power compared to Choice Band. On another note, Toxic can be used as another option to status Gourgeist-XL after it has been lured in. Lastly, Fist Plate can be used, since it won't immediately reveal your Primeape's set.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Ghost-types**: Primeape is either walled, crippled, or checked offensively, by the tier's relevant Ghost-types such as Sableye, Gourgeist-XL, Palossand, Haunter, and Oricorio-G.
**Psychic-types**: Bulky Psychic-types such as Musharna and Mesprit can take Primeape's Close Combat with ease; however, they must be wary of U-turn's damage. Choice Scarf Jynx can revenge kill Primeape, since Primeape can't reliably revenge kill kill Z-Lovely Kiss sets Z- without a speed tie.
**Bulky Poison-types**: Bulky Poison-types such as Weezing and Qwilfish can wall Primeape. Weezing walls every Primeape set and can chip it with Rocky Helmet, while Qwilfish can check Primeape if it predicts correctly around Earthquake. Also, Primeape can lead to them freely setting up Toxic Spikes, which is costly for Primeape and its teammates.
**Flying-types**: Flying-type such as Swanna, Charizard, Archeops, and Togetic check Primeape due to them being able to take Close Combat with ease or being naturally faster. However, they do have to scout for the rare Stone Edge.
**Faster Pokemon**: Any powerful Pokemon that outspeeds Primeape such as Floatzel and Alolan Raichu can act as a reliable revenge killers.
