Private Smogon GTS Server

So the thread about fan-made GTS events was locked over in Stark Mountain: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69472

but I have (what I hope is) a legitimate question: could Smogon start up their own spoofed GTS server for trading? It would be nice to have a GTS that wasn't spammed by stupid trade requests.

Related: could this technology also be applied to PBR Random Wi-Fi battles? I can't help but think that that would be awesome.

How would that be possible? Go to nintendo and gamefreak and pay them to make a server only we can use? How would we use it? That would be impossible in DPPHGSS.

Nonono. There's this group of people who figured out how to make a FAKE GTS server. All users have to do is change some DNS settings, and they get routed to the fan-made GTS server rather than the real one. Sorry, I guess I should've linked directly to the Bulbanews article.

Myself and OmegaDonut are following this research, but at present time the the technology still has a ways to go. The folks at pp are smart, though, and I have no doubt that they'll get everything in good working order soon. After that happens, we'll just have to see what we can come up with.
