That’s a good idea, I have applied for some civil service jobs and one of my interviews was with a college. I live in the UK, our job market has been terrible since at least 2008. Too many people, not enough jobs to fill. Most companies don’t want to promote from within, they’d rather just hire management from outside.

In the US it seems like they’d rather promote from within, but I’m sure civil service will be good for you. The secret is to grab a position with a clearance of some kind so you aren’t competing with literally everyone. Usually that’s through gov positions and agencies. If you have a degree, might be a long shot, but try MI6? There’s nothing to lose at this point.
