Several reasons to get a PS3 over a 360:
Also, with regard to game recommendation, you said you don't like FPS games, but is there a specific genre that you particularly like? Based on your mention of SC4, you might also like Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue, and if you like western RPGs, you might enjoy Fallout 3. Dragon Age is also a good western RPG but if possible I recommend playing it on the PC since the control scheme is better. Assassin's Creed II and Uncharted 2 are some of the best the platform has to offer.
- Playstation network is free. Xbox Live is $5 a month. That being said, Xbox Live is much better as a service for providing game demos and whatnot, which may or may not matter to you.
- The Playstation 3 is a much better piece of hardware. Although Xbox failure rates have been somewhat curbed with later iterations of the system, the same has happened with the PS3 as well.
- In terms of exclusives, I think you'd like the Playstation 3 better than the Xbox 360. The 360 does have some nice exclusives like Gears of War and Halo, but those are first-person shooters, which you've said you're not a huge fan of. Playstation 3 has Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted 2, and Ratchet and Clank, which are third-person. Valkyria Chronicles is also a good exclusive if you're into SRPGs.
- The Playstation 3 is much better in terms of supporting third-party hardware. The Xbox only takes first-party memory cards and hard drives, and those first-party items are super-inflated in terms of price. ($30 for a 512 MB memory card, no thanks.) Playstation 3 accepts any 2.5-inch (laptop-sized) hard drive that has a FAT32 partition, and you can get 500 HDDs for $90 last time I checked if you ever find that you need more space. Heck, you can even hook up an external USB hard drive. The Playstation 3 also works with any standard USB controller (though it doesn't work with Xbox 360 controllers because they require a special driver, this was probably deliberate on Microsoft's part). This is a boon if you're into 2D fighters. If you want a 6 face button style controller for playing 2D fighters, there is a $40 Xbox 360 controller available, but with the Playstation 3 you can get a Sega Saturn-style controller, which is perfect for 2D fighters in my opinion. The Playstation 3 should also work with just about every bluetooth headset or keyboard you can buy; if you already have a bluetooth headset for your phone or something, then you don't even have to buy an additional headset.
