Psychic Types: Seeing The Past And Future... Of NU

CM Musharna is amazing, jesus christ. Max HP / Max Def + is so fucking bulky, and after +1 you're almost unbreakable. Even Skunktank can't fuck you if you predict right (Sucker Punch hurts like hell, but Pursuit does around 26% iirc if you don't switch). Toxic is a bitch, but everything that uses Toxic doesn't like getting poisoned (Synchronize ftw). I need to try it in the sun (3/4 recovery move? Yes please)

bye bye braviary.

Solrock @ leftovers
Ability levitate
Nature impish
Evs 252 hp 252 def 4 sp def
Will o wisp
Cosmic power
Stone edge
Baton pass/earthquake

I think that this might be a new counter to braviary. It can easily sponge a hit from brave bird, return, and even superpower. Then, it can stone edge, or cosmic power on a predicted switch. Baton pass to switch into a sweeper but give it extra bulk. You could use earthquake over it if you want, if you dont need a baton passer.

I think solrock is WAY to underrated.

thats not really a good argument...

ill take this to higher tiers for the lack of a good example.

it'd be like saying gengar is a good couter to terrakion since terrakion is almost usual choiced, and gengar can come in on a predicted close combat/ x-scssor/ earthquake....

when in reality, a stone edge RAPES gengar.

so no, because u-turn, and to a certain extent superpower, maims solrock, its not a very good counter.

unless you provide us with calcs that show that band u-turn doesnt 2hko, (which i doubt), meh.

Braviary @Choice Band 252 EVs +Nature Superpower vs Solrock 252/252 EVs +Nature: 48.3~57.0%.

with Lefovers, guaranteed to not be 2HKOed. At the same time:

Solrock 0 EVs Neutral Nature Stone Edge vs Braviary 0/0 EVs Neutral Nature: 77.4~91.5.

Thanks to Stone Edges accuracy (or lack of) you have a clean OHKO with SR.:toast:

i've used non-choiced braviary briefly, not enough to judge on it, but you can say it exists (plus i've spread an eensy-teensy bit of love for it). i'd agree though, solrock does not make a particularly useful counter (a good check nonetheless) if it only counters a very, very rare variant.

on that note, i feel the OP shouldn't shrug off solrock and lunatone that easily. i've never used either of them, but got swept by a RP lunatone, and it does have surprisingly decent coverage (you need to resort to hp rock or ancientpower, but with psychic, earth power, ice beam, grass knot, shadow ball, signal beam and possibly charge beam, you've got plenty of options to choose from). solrock could probably explored in interesting ways as well despite its lesser offensive movepool (i've seen people use it as a suicide sun setter, for instance). and rock/psychic is certainly not too bad of a typing, considering rock-types are all the craze down here. i'd love to see those two explored, as they span a bridge between two good typings.

I have used a RP lunatone a long time ago, but I was never truely impresssed. Solrock, Ive tried a few sets. i tried a SR setter / bird check and it never really performed. I also tried a flying gem, TR / acrobatics / stone edge / zen headbutt set, and it flat out sucked, as would be expected.

With a life orb, braviary does 64% damage on solrock with Uturn, but if you have leftovers, about 58%. This means that solrock would need some wishing support if needed. Yes I agree that life orb braviary is too good for solrock, but almost nonexistent. Everyone these days band or scarf their braviaries to give full effect.

Let's put a little bit more substance in our posts; I'm sure there is more you can say than just that!

Solrock, like any other defensive Pokemon with niche resistances (see: Camerupt), faces a common problem: it doesn't have the stats to back it up. 70 85 / 65 will simply not be walling much, especially since Solrock doesn't even have Recover. Rock / Psychic is a pretty mediocre defensive typing as well, with common weaknesses such as Grass, Water, and Dark, but Levitate helps with that. It's a shame that Solrock is also too weak to OHKO Braviary without SR/Superpower drop, although Braviary isn't all that hard to weaken. Forcing Braviary to use U-turn more often to beat Solrock is also nice, because often with CB Braviary you're just going to be smashing stuff with either your STAB or Superpower.

I have to say, however, that Solrock is quite intriguing. If its stats were just a little higher, I'd use it a lot more. Levitate + Stealth Rock + Will-o-Wisp is quite an interesting combination, and Solrock has a lot more supporting options as well.

Calm Mind Lunatone also interests me. It has a better typing for setting up, Levitate, and a few additional coverage moves, but it lacks the impressive stats that Gardevoir has and Focus Blast.

However, pretty much every Pokemon warrants testing, so let's go out there and test Solrock and Lunatone! :toast:

Also, non-choiced Braviary is pretty interesting. If only it had Roost...

Try #2

Rotom s @ leftovers
Ability levitate
Nature bold
Evs 252 Hp 252 def 4 spD
Will o wisp
Discharge
Air.slash
pain split

Maybe this will counter braviary. Will o wisp for crippling. Discharge for killing

This isnt a thread to find counters for pokes, this is to discuss the abilities of the mentioned psychic types and explore the lesser known regions of these pokemon.

Also, im going to update some of the entries in the OP, because I am now convinced they have other potentials.

Double post ftw. Bumping this as ive updated it with the notable recent changes. Kept metang on here because it wont be RU long anyway. that is, unless molk really IS going for round 2.
