[SET]
Utility (Quaquaval) @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 116 Def / 144 Spe
Impish Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off
- Roost
- Close Combat / Flip Turn
Quaquaval is a niche support Pokemon which leverages its great defensive typing and strong support movepool to alleviate its middling bulk. Rapid spin provides hazard control to support teammates such as Mega Venusaur and Celesteela. Knock Off allows Quaquaval to remove enemy items and cripple potential switch-ins like Skarmory and Clefable. Roost gives Quaquaval the longevity to come in multiple times per game against powerful threats like Mega Tyranitar and Bisharp as well as walls such as Ting-Lu. Close Combat allows Quaquaval to threaten super effective damage on the previously mentioned Pokemon, while Flip Turn takes advantage of the switches it forces to allow the user to bring in their own threats. To help with this, the EV spread allows for Quaquaval to outspeed offensive Mega Tyranitar while dumping into the leftover EVs into physical bulk to help tank hits. However Quaquaval can easily thud against resists, and is taken advantage of by Mega Latias, Mega Venusaur, and Tapu Fini. To help alleviate these issues, Quaquaval can partner up with Celesteela or Jirachi to make a strong defensive core and nullify the aforementioned threats. Additionally, partners such as Iron Moth, Hydreigon, and Moltres-Galar appreciate Quaquaval’s ability to come in and threaten counters like Mega Tyranitar and Ting-Lu.
