Quizbowl?

Just randomly curious about other smogoners who play quizbowl or any other academic competition like it.

I've been doing it since my sophomore year in high school (and have continued into college).
 
I did it my junior and senior year of high school, mostly because I was good friends with the other people on the team rather than because I wanted to do it. It led to great jokes mostly, like I twisted my ankle something awful and couldn't walk for a week, but I still played injured because I went so hard. I think I am also on video somewhere on the internet giving ridiculous answers to questions I didn't know, because we recorded about a quarter of the matches for TV.

I did it in high school sophomore and junior year, averaged around 35 ppg (not counting bonuses of course). Qualified for Nats junior year but left the team before going (don't ask).

I was going to do it in college, but it's too hard and I'm too busy. There's always next year.
 
Oh hell yes, I love quizbowl. I'm vice-captain of our schools team, and it is a million times more enjoyable then half of my old extra curricular activities. I'm currently my teams Geography and Science specialist, and I'm a huge help with most math problems. I'm also lucky enough to be in an environment where No-it-allism doesn't thrive, so most of use think very humbly of what we do. Our first competition is coming up January 9th!

As for inside jokes within our own team, we all fear "Rabbid Whales".
 
Quizbowl (or Scholastic Bowl at my school, same thing) is actually kind of fun. I did it my freshman year, and you meet that perfect balance of smart people, but not too nerdy. Some of the questions were rather ridiculous, but I had a good time. I would go back if the same people were on the team, but they all got up and left too, so I don't know the people on the team all that well.
 
Well, I dunno about not too nerdy. Just incredibly nerdy in their own way. The hardcore quizbowlers are crazy even by my standards, and I'm a college player, which makes me crazy by default.
