Rain Dance RMT

Well, I've only ever made one OU team before, and it wasn't built around a specific move. I've already made several changes to this team, but I still think it needs some work. So here goes:

Crobat w/Damp Rock
Jolly
104 HP, 152 Attack, 252 Speed
Taunt
Roost
Rain Dance
U-Turn

Regular Crobat lead, with the addition of Rain Dance. Taunt first, then Rain Dance, Roost as needed, U-turn out. He can actually be used more than once, since Roost can help him recover. But I'm thinking about replacing Roost with Brave Bird since he doesn't have very good defence anyways.

Latias w/Leftovers
Timid
128 HP, 128 Special Attack, 252 Speed
Calm Mind
Recover
Dragon Pulse
Surf

Bulky enough to last a while, and enough Speed to outspeed some of the slower Pokes. Calm Mind for extra power, Surf gets double power in the rain, and Recover as needed to heal her. Kinda interested to see how this one will work, but not looking forward to trying and getting a Timid. I might have to get rid of her just because its hard to find a good natured legendary.

Lanturn w/Leftovers
Volt Absorb
Calm
40 HP, 76 Defence, 140 Special Attack, 252 Special Defence
Surf
Thunder
Rain Dance
Thunder Wave

I originally had an Omastar in this spot, but I traded him out for Lanturn because Lanturn absorbs Electric. Thunder Wave then Rain Dance, he can either switch out or finish off the Poke thats in. Both his moves get double power in the rain, and he has some pretty good special defence to last a while if needed.

Ludicolo w/Life Orb
Swift Swim
Modest
60 HP, 252 Special Attack, 196 Speed
Surf
Grass Knot
Ice Beam
Rain Dance

Kind of a weird one, not sure if I like him, but I'm gonna try him out. Rain Dance then sweep. Surf gets double power, Grass Knot for any heavy Pokemon that aren't really affected by the moves he has, even though I can't think of any right now. Ice Beam for Dragon/Flying types.

Kingdra w/Life Orb
Swift Swim
Naughty
252 Attack, 240 Special Attack, 16 Speed
Rain Dance
Waterfall
Dragon Dance
Dragon Pulse

Dragon Dance in the rain could be deadly. I'm pretty sure that after just one Dragon Dance in the rain he can sweep just about anything with Waterfall. If they send out a Vaporeon or something then Dragon Pulse still is pretty strong, but I might have to switch out. Not quite sure how he is going to work either, I kinda took some of the different movesets on here and put him together myself.

Kabutops w/Life Orb
Swift Swim
Adamant
32 HP, 252 Attack, 20 Defence, 204 Speed
Swords Dance
Waterfall
Aqua Jet
Stone Edge

Another sweeper. With a high attack stat and then Swift Swim he should be good. Swords Dance increases his attack even more, Aqua Jet gets priority over something like Infernape that could use Mach Punch (which I believe is super effective), Stone Edge and Waterfall for STAB.

So that's my team. It's already a lot better than it was, but its still kinda rough. Thanks for the help!

Hi. This looks like a solid RD team, but I have a few simple suggestions that I feel could improve it.

First of all, your Crobat has attack EVs when it only attacks with U-turn. I would suggest 252hp 4 def 252spe.

I feel that your current Latias is doing little for your team. Generally, I recommend that every set on a Rain Dance team should be either a Swirt Swim sweeper or a Rain supporter. Latias itself can form a fairly effective rain support set, with a spread of 252hp 4def 252spe and a timid nature. It can also provide reflect or wish support that may be useful, as well as being able to use a rain-boosted surf. However, I would strogly consider a rain support Swampert, since your team lacks SR, which Swampert can set up easily. It also provides an electric immunity, which would be particularly helpful If you remove Lanturn.

I feel that Lanturn is not doing too much for your team, since Twave does not help when you outrun everything, and its attacks do not hit particularly hard. I think there is space here for another rain sweeper. Qwilfish is usually the fourth rain sweeper if there is one, and for good reason. Rain dance teams have a horrible toxic spikes weakness, which Qwiffish almost completely removes, and Qwilfish has excellent offensive synergy with Kabutops, powering through celebi with a STAB Poison Jab. Its SD explosion also KOes pretty much everything.

I would suggest that Kingdra run a fully mixed set. I feel that precious rain turns should not be wasted using dragon dance when you already outrun almost everything. Therefore I would suggest Surf/Draco Meteor/Waterfall/Rain dance. This will help to break through walls to support your other sweepers. The EVs should be adjusted accordingly. I would suggest 228 spe EVs though, since outrunning scarf Latias in the rain is important. Latias will outrun your whole team and hit them all very hard with Draco Meteor.

Good luck.

How do you beat a Vaporeon or Suicune? Sure, you can switch to Lanturn, but that's just asking for them to bring in a Ground, and force something to eat an EQ.

If Tyranitar can get in on Crobat when it doesn't U-Turn or Latias and either DD up if Ludlicolo is weakened or force something to eat a Stone Edge, you're also in trouble.

When I run Rain Dance, I too like to run something that can absorb Electic. But I like to run a Dugtrio, who can take out Tyranitar and weakened Blisseys and Vaporeons with CB Earthquake. It would also help with your HUGE SpecsJolt weakness. It's worth a test, but that's up to your preference.

Yeah, as mentioned before, you have a huge Toxic Spikes weakness and Qwilfish is a great remedy. I personally think you could run it over Kabutops though, running SD/Waterfall/Poison Jab/Explosion, as I wouldn't want to have a fourth Water type should you fail to have Rain Dance going.

I would also try to replace Latias with another bulky Rain Dancer, but I'm not certain as to which one you should use.

Thanks for the advice. On the changing Latias, do you think a Swampert like jc104 suggested would fill that space? I had a Bronzong that knew Stealth Rock, and I was trying to find a place for Starmie, I just couldn't find a good spot for him.

On Qwilfish, I like it. I'm gonna change him out with Lanturn and make him look like:

Qwilfish w/Damp Rock
Swift Swim
Adamant
4 HP, 252 Attack, 252 Speed
Rain Dance
Poison Jab
Waterfall
Explosion

On Kingdra, why would I want Draco Meteor and Surf instead of Dragon Pulse? After just one or two Draco Meteor it and Surf both become useless.

The Qwilfish would need Swords dance and life orb IMO (rather than rain dance). Quilfish has neither the attack to sweep without it, nor the defenses to support well.

Bronzong would work fine in the team, though I think it would leave your team somewhat electric-weak. The use of Lanturn suggested to me that you wished to cover this, but rain teams do not have to cover every weakness. You can go for three supporters and three sweepers, but it is then recommended that you take rain dance off the sweepers and commit them fully to attack.

The idea with the kingdra is really just to open up for other sweepers by breaking down walls. Remember that DM outdamages dragon pulse over two turns by a significant margin, and that Surf is also considerably more powerful than Dragon pulse, particularly in rain. With DM, you may actually be able to tear through things like Vaporeon.

Good luck.

i know it seems a bit strange but if you want to cover ground weaknesses why not go with nidoking [earthpower surf thunder sludgebomb] it can be quite effective and it will throw your foe off guard i left the nature and ev's for you to decide

Well, I know this is a really old thread, but I found out today that Latias moved to Uber. Which really sucks in my opinion, but oh well, saves me the hassle of trying to get a good natured one. Now I need something to replace him with, so I'm going to use the Swampert idea. This is one that I came up with on my own, the EV spread, nature, and moveset are all mine, so tell me what you think.

Swampert w/Damp Rock
Brave (boosts attack, lowers speed)
252 HP, 76 Attack, 90 Defense, 90 Special Defense
Stealth Rock
Rain Dance
Waterfall
EQ

Basically, a bulky Rain Dance support. Stealth Rock and Rain Dance his first turns, and then swaps out. The HP EV's help him last longer, the Attack lets him switch into something he's strong against and still do good, and the def/sp. def ev's give him a little bulk. Think he'll work in Latias's place?
