Rain, Rain....Don't Go Away. (OU Rain Team)

So here we go, my first Black and White team. This team I made about a month ago when I first got into this generation, when all I knew about this gen was two things.

1. Weather is very good, and Rain is arguably the best.
2. Ferrathorn is very good as well.

With these two themes in mind, I went about in 10 minutes making this team. It peaked at 1110 on the Smogon PO server, which is much better than expected.

Please comment/make changes thats why I'm here. Please don't be harsh, this is my very first team this gen and it has served me well.

HERE WE GO

Spr_5b_186_m.png

Politoed, Leftovers, Drizzle
252 HP, 252 SpDef, 4 SpAt: Calm
Scald
Toxic
Protect
Ice Beam

Obvious Politoed is obvious. I went for this set mainly because I didn't need another huge special attack on my team. He has pretty nice power and durability and helps cripple pokemon that could be a problem to me. I should probably change scald for surf, but I love the burn too much. Protect is for scouting choice users and helping me get a good switch in.

Opinion: A needed Pokemon for this team, but doesn't really fit a role anywhere besides setting up rain. Probably needed to change what set he is to give him more of a use.

Spr_5b_642.png

Thundurus, Life Orb, Prankster
252 Sp, 252 SpAt, 4 HP: Timid
Thunder
Nasty Plot
Hidden Power (Ice)
Focus Blast

Man this puppy can destroy teams. One of the two main sweepers on my team, after a Nasty Plot this thing can blow holes in anything slower than it. He is frail, however, which means priority or something faster than he is can usually kill him, but he has won me countless games with his late game sweeping ability. Attacks are pretty standard.

Opinion: A great addition to anybody's rain team, though I might change him to either expert belt to suggest choice, or just go scarf entirely. In my opinion he is a strong enough special attacker without any damage boosting item. All in all, a great Pokemon that should be considered on any team.

Spr_5b_381.png

Latios, Choice Specs, Levitate
252 SpAt, 252 Speed, 4 HP: Modest
Draco Meteor
Surf
Ice Beam
Thunder

Has to be one of my favorite sets of this metagame so far. The ability to OHKO anything that doesn't resist Draco Meteor is too much fun. I personally love this set and the raw power it brings. Also, the Draco Meteor is sometimes expected too much, which can lead to some awesome predictions (ex. OHKOing incoming Heatran with Surf :D). Thunder goes well with the rain, giving latios sweeping abilities, while Draco Meteor is a come-in-your-dead move.

Opinion: Like I said, favorite set of this metagame. Might actually change Modest to Timid to get some more speed, but will have to check how far the power level falls.

Spr_5b_598.png

Ferrothorn, Leftovers, Iron Barbs
252 HP, 48 Def, 320 Spdef: Relaxed (0 Sp IVs)
Gyro Ball
Power Whip
Leech Seed
Stealth Rock

They said this was the wall to have, and they were right. Ferrothorn takes hits like a beast and can stall for days, while actually dealing some good damage. Swept a guys team with Ferrothorn so he is still pretty powerful. The only thing I wish was different was if Ferrothorn could run Spikes and Leech Seed. Other than that, there is very little to complain about this monster.

Opinion: A very good Pokemon, but would be willing to change. If so, would love something that also gives Spikes. Other than that, I have no problem with this.

Spr_5b_593_m.png

Jellicent, Leftovers, Cursed Body
252 HP, 216 Def, 44 SpAt: Bold
Hydro Pump
Will-O-Wisp
Shadow Ball
Recover

I put Jellicent in this team as what I thought was a good answer to Fighting Pokemon that switch in on Ferrathorn, as for the most part I was right. If he decides to stay in after I switch in, I can burn them. However the problem arises in the fact that most Fighting Pokes also carry Payback to deal with Reuniclus. The extra Special attack evs was my answer to combat Reuniclus, but that doesn't really help after a couple of calm minds.

Opinion: Not a terrible Pokemon, but I would really like something to replace this. Maybe a Blissey or something Specially Bulky to take on that blob.

Spr_5b_534.png

Conkeldurr, Life Orb, Guts
252 Att, 120 HP, 136 SpDef: Adamant (0 Sp IVs)
Bulk Up
Drain Punch
Stone Edge
Mach Punch

A random physical attacker :D. There really is no rhyme or reason he is in this team, but I'm happy I put him there. Bulk Up helps with he durability, and Mach Punch has surprised some people. Unfortunately he adds to the Reuniclus weakness I have.

Opinion: One of the best physical attacks in the metagame, but I should probably give him Leftovers, if not replace him to help with Reuniclus.

Here is a list of things I would like from this team,
- More wins :D
- A better special wall
-Something to counter my biggest weakness on this team, in Reuniclus.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please leave your suggestions

Sincerely,
Pokefreakman.

Just to hit on your wish list quickly:

-Spiritomb has will o wisp, ghost typing, and eats Reuniclus for breakfast. Unfortunately, it is typically a much more stall oriented Pokemon, but I wouldn't say it's not an option for the team. You could also use some sort of Calm Mind set to take special htis well.

Woot, Tomb! Yeah, it wrecks Reinuclus like nothing else.

There's also Slowking, who has Rain-Boosted STAB like Jellicent, as well as Recover and useful staus moves like T-Wave and Toxic. It also has Regenerator, which is nasty good. A set like Boil Over/Recover/T-Wave/Ice Beam might work pretty well. Psychic is also good (Never thought I'd say that) to nail Conkelderps that might try to Payback you. It also can sort of deal with Reinuclus, but not really. At best you can stall out Psychic or Focus Blast. Any CM Fetus Jelly with Shadow Ball kills you, unless your run Roar.

Replacing Conkelderp with Bulky SDRoost Scizor would solve your Reinuclus problems quite nicely, while also giving you a nasty attacker. Max HP/SpD with BP/Bug Bite/Roost/SD would work nicely.

I was actually thinking about a Pursuit Tomb, as nothing Reinuclus has can hit unless it a status move. It would probably replace Jellicent and I would need to test EVs to get OHKO on switch while still being bulky enough to be useful in any other game.

Concider CB Azumarrill over Conkledurr if you take tomb over jelli. Rain Stabed CB Huge-Power priority is sexy, and it keeps a Dory check on the team.

Huh thats really weird. I don't know why CB Azumarrill never crossed my mind. He would be really good. I will definitely try him out.

If you end up not replacing Conkeldurr, you should change his item to Flame orb(instead of life orb, cause he doesn't get the guts boost) or ability to sheer force.

You know that you can have Spikes and Leech Seed both on your Ferrothorn. Cacturne learns both by level up. Its just that you can't have Spikes, Leech Seed, and Stealth Rock on the same set.

Alright, so i may be new to the Smogon forums, but i think I've done enough competitive battling to know what i'm saying ;)

I did see that you wanted a special defensive wall, and i have the perfect Pokemon to fit the spot.

Defensive Tentacruel
imgres

Ability: Rain Dish
Item: Black Sludge/Leftovers (whichever is more available)
Evs: SpD: 252 De: 252

Moves:
Scald
Toxic Spikes
Rapid Spin
Ice Beam

This set allows Tentacruel (who has a very good SpD of 120) wall most special attacks (with the possible exception of a choice specs Chandalure's psychic) and will stop any special fire attack in its tracks while in the rain. In the rain Tentacruel also receives the 1/16 recovery from leftovers/black sludge, and the 1/16 recovery from rain dish. 1/8 recovery is nothing to sneeze at, and has saved me multiple times in the past. Scald is just scald, made to stop the offensive Pokemon from smacking Tentacruel around with its pitiful 65 base defense. Toxic spikes is just a way of getting 100% accurate toxic to every member of your opponents team. I usually have a roar/whirlwind Pokemon on hand to pass the stat to every member of their team. (with the exception of the common steel types, flying types, and occasional poison type) This leads me to the next point: if your opponent has you trapped with toxic spikes, just switch in Tentacruel to absorb them! Next we have rapid spin which is just to get rid of entry hazards. And finally we have Ice Beam! a fairly good attack that will take care of the pesky grass, flying, and dragon types. I seriously doubt that any Dragonite that switches in to this Tentacruel will survive a quad special effective ice beam!

So that's the Tentacruel that i use on my rain team, you could always slap a life orb on it and replace the rapid spin with hydro pump for a fairly good attack! Feedback if you wish! :D
