Rainbows and Vodka - Well #42 - Oglemi and Jellicent

Time for a cliche answer: college is what you make of it. College is a lot of partying, drunkeness, sex, and drama only if you make it so that there's a lot of partying, drunkeness, sex, and drama.
Just posting to say that I highly recommend this path, sans the drama part. God, college was fun... :)

@Oglemi

How do you think your students will treat you when/if they find out you're gay? Kids can be pretty mean, especially Freshman since they're still at that age when they aren't mature and they're still trying to find where they fit in.

@ Oglemi:

- Do you go to football games, and if so, can I join you?

I've only been to one, mostly because I'm usually studying during the game or I can't spend the money to go. If I happen to go again though I'll try to remember to invite you!

- Batman > Spiderman y/y

n/n

- What percentage of your posts are just straight BS?

It's a very low percentage!

- How many times have you changed your avatar?

TOO MANY

@Oglemi

How do you think your students will treat you when/if they find out you're gay? Kids can be pretty mean, especially Freshman since they're still at that age when they aren't mature and they're still trying to find where they fit in.

I have a feeling as time goes on the students of that grade will have a lower amount of even caring that I'm gay in the first place. It's already easy to pick out this trend just through social media. There's more and more gay people on TV and in the media being portrayed well and in a non-discriminatory way. As long as this trend continues it soon won't even matter to them that I'm gay.

As for the ones that are still immature about it, I hope to show them that not all gays are of their preconceived stereotype, and that a gay guy can be just as cool or relatable as a straight guy.

Most of what anybody says can't make me mad (my friends have tried their damnedest purposefully at times and have been unsuccessful), and if they do say something completely out of line then I'd just send them to the principle like any other bad-mouthing kid.

What all do you do for The Smog/the main site?

For The Smog - write articles and GP articles that need it

I do a lot for the site in general, if you're talking about what I do through the SCMS, I cache the entries that people make into it. I use it to upload analyses, and also fix onsite errors. I've converted all of the past gen analyses to the current format that DPP and BW use. I've also spent a lot of time working with the BW Items project with bugmaniacbob. Not to brag, but there's really too much that I've done to actually list all that I've done lol.

How many hours a week do you spend on Smogon?

WAY TOO MANY

Though, the amount that I spend during the school season is much less than over summer. I avoid IRC during school because it eats up so much time. During school I'll typically spend at least an hour a day on Smogon, usually more.

Favorite gen?

This is a tough one because I've only had the opportunity to extensively play DPP and now BW, but I've definitely enjoyed BW as a generation more so than DPP. DPP UU is still the best meta though.

@Jellicent

Favorite gen?
DPP for competitive, GSC for in-game

Am I awkward?
I wouldn't say so, but I'm also kinda awkward, so I'm not the best guy to ask >.>

How many times have you talked to me when you're drunk?
You have no idea, man... Talk to ya tonight~ ;)

How long do you plan on being a waiter?
Right now, it suits me quite well, I'd say. It's basically a game of time management and charming people over, and in the end, easy cash each night if you know how to do those things. It's a bit weird to have "making people like you" be part of your job description, especially since it feels kinda deceitful in a way, but a guy's gotta make a living, and a waiter's 3 bucks an hour ain't gonna cut it >.>

It's a bit depressing that you can hit 200 bucks in 6 hours one day, and then 50 bucks in 12 hours the next, but that's part of the game. It makes finances a bit more stressful, as it's inconsistent, but overall it pays a lot better than most entry level jobs. Plus, you only have to claim so much in taxes :3 Not something I'll be doing forever, hopefully, but it's a great gig for anyone looking for some fast money that doesn't involve physical labor or a specialized degree.

Do you want to go back to school and teach like Oglemi?
Teaching could be a fun job, I think. Going back to school, on the other hand...

Time to address what everyone's been wondering.

Wow, a well with two of my favorite Smogon users. I'm lovin' it so far; you two keep up the fantastic work =)

Hey, I just wanted to take a second and tell you how much I adore you. I really wish that we interacted on a more regular basic because you are just so cool. Your work ethic is phenomenal and you're an upbeat guy!

What have your past relationships been like? I want the deets.

What is your favorite sport to watch on television? How does that compare with your favorite sport to play?

What is your overall opinion on women? You seem to have some unique views, so I'd like to see if you just have any general philosophies on them.

Have you ever considered not drinking? How much do you define yourself by that habit?

How do you view me in terms of our work together on Smogon? Like, do you view me as more of a brother or as your boss? Just to clarify, it's because I never know how to respond to you about Orange Islands stuff, haha. We're equal mods, but you like ask me for permission in stuff. I dunno it is just weird, haha, so I'm curious.

Which area of Smogon would you most like to get involved in next? Why?

Like with Jelli, I wanted to take a quick second to say how much I appreciate you. You really fill in the cracks in a LOT of places on Smogon. I am so glad that you've been recognized for all your hard work; keep it up!

I want to hear some of your thoughts about the education system in the United States today. What does it do right? What about wrong? What do you think of "progressive" schools that are letting kids structure their own lesson plans and schedules? How traditional of a teacher do you think you'll be? What's goin' on with this thread ;)

For those without IS access, this is the thread where Oglesworth posts nude pics of himself.

@Jelli:

- can you explain how your experience as a waiter has changed your relationship with food? not in a weird rodan-esque (sorry?) way or anything, but how has it made you appreciate food / customer service / restaurants more? Do you ever eat at the restaurant you work at or is that like creepy

Time to address what everyone's been wondering.

Yes, even after that... X_X

Jellicent

Hey, I just wanted to take a second and tell you how much I adore you. I really wish that we interacted on a more regular basic because you are just so cool. Your work ethic is phenomenal and you're an upbeat guy!
Thanks, Birk ^.^

We should definitely chat more regularly; you're always great to talk to, and those exact feeling are reciprocated, haha :3

What have your past relationships been like? I want the deets.
I'm kind of... terrible at relationships? I've yet to date someone that I feel comfortable with, so I never really give relationships the proper chance. At this point, I'm putting them off until I find someone I feel compatible enough with to open up to (or such an incredible that lay that Jesus Christ I will not be able to give it up. Either or >.>). Haven't actually been in a relationship since shortly after high school. The whole concept is kind of weird to me, and I much rather prefer a simple roll in the hay for the time being (and jeeeez could I go for a good roll right now >.>)

What is your favorite sport to watch on television? How does that compare with your favorite sport to play?
I don't watch or play any sports. I remember when I was in the hospital last year, ESPN was covering poker. If that counts as a sport somehow, I'll answer that for both. A game that is equal parts luck and reading your opponent: ring any bells? :)

What is your overall opinion on women? You seem to have some unique views, so I'd like to see if you just have any general philosophies on them.
I love women, haha. My posts might come off as misogynistic a bit, as I'm quite straight and not really opposed to sex. That said, I don't just view women sexually. A lot of my closest friends are and have been women, and I see them as very much the equals to my male friends. The only difference really is that they're equals that I won't (necessarily) be opposed to having extra fun with. Sexualization should by no means define a friendship or relationship, but it doesn't mean it plays a bad role. In fact, for a romantic relationship, it obviously plays a huge role.

There's a weird stigma in society where sex with a loved one is totally fine, but casual sex is frowned upon. Go have sex with girls whose names you won't remember! It's not a bad thing. Conversely, it's actually quite carefree and enjoyable. If anything, it's your loved ones that you should be far more careful about sexualizing, as that can quickly turn a good friendship or relationship sour. I'm not sure if I'm even still answering your question, but to sum up, I guess: I love women. I love them as friends, and I love them as sexual partners, and those by no means have to (although they very well can) be intersecting lines. If you're asking for a more generalized view of women as a whole, just realize that for every single personality trait that you can imagine, there are plenty of women that perfectly embody it. Trying to generalize that accurately is a task left to a far more gifted person than myself.

Have you ever considered not drinking? How much do you define yourself by that habit?
I was actually opposed to drinking for a long time, believe it or not. I was also opposed to smoking and sex (I know, wtf?) But, over time, I loosened up a ton and realized there's a lot more to life than what's good or bad for you, and that it's definitely worth trying to have as a good of a time as you can.

I don't really define myself by drinking, but I do consider it an enjoyable activity. I believe in doing whatever feels best, as long as you aren't harming others in the process. If that means playing tons of Pokemon or getting totally smashed, so be it. In my case, it means both of those things currently, haha :P

Definitely more as a brother, haha. Even before I modded OI, I saw you as kind of an equal in regards to it (just an equal that could sticky, move, delete, etc.) In the end, you're just a guy who's passionate about that forum, much like myself. I know there's a hierarchy and everything, but I don't heed it too much. I'm just as respectful to 1 post randoms as I am to admins. The only real difference is experience, and I usually look to the higher ups or experienced users in whatever forum for guidance on things I'm less familiar on, while I tend to guide newer users who are looking to me for the same reasons.

To clarify, I ask you for permission about OI stuff more out of respect than anything. I also try to ask Stellar or Solace or Fate before doing something major, too. I think it's important for us to be on the same page, so it's crucial to communicate. Also, you're awesome for bouncing ideas off of, and it's great to find out your thoughts on if something sounds awesome, ridiculous, or slightly off but amazing with some extra insight. Sorry if that's weird X__X

Which area of Smogon would you most like to get involved in next? Why?
That's a tough one. I'd love to do some research work, as I have a deep respect for our researchers and it sounds fun to try random tedious things in-game to test how they really work. That said, it's hard to know where to begin on that front, and how much is already covered, so I haven't tried too much to enter that field >.>

Outside of that, there's some really cool stuff that I just haven't bothered to get active in yet. Team rating and tutoring sound amazing, but I'm never sure if I really qualify as a strong enough player to help others on that front. I don't know what the standard is for those, but I'd want to make damn sure I was doing a good job before hopping in, and it's hard to tell if I'm up to par sometimes :/ CAP I had fun with while I participated last round, and I wouldn't mind hopping into that again when I free up a bit more. It's a really cool part of the site that definitely needs more loving, but I don't want to try to devote myself to such an in-depth project when I'm unsure how much time I'll really be able to dedicate to it. I guess we'll just see where I end up posting next~

What is your overall opinion on religion? How much does it define you?
I'm an atheist. I'm not anti-religious, granted; actually, I'm kind of jealous of those that find solace in such a belief. It just... never clicked with me. I studied a lot of religious history, however, and I found it incredibly fascinating. I think the best way to really study such a subject is from a non-believer's stance, as it doesn't skew your opinion on the matter. It's truly incredible how devoted some people really are, and it's a subject I could discuss for an incredible length of time. The problem is, discussing it never seems to go well, so I'll keep schtum on the matter for now :)

Wittiest user on Smogon?
That's really fuckin' tough, haha. I will say that Mekkah is one of the few people whose posts literally make me lol consistently. Something about his posting habits just rings really well with my sense of humor. Even though we're both way too active in #orangeislands, I never seem to end up talking to him ;-; Hopefully we'll get to chat more often sometime, though ^.^

What was one of the biggest mistakes of Smogon, past or present? Why do you consider it to be one the biggest mistakes (i.e. why did it upset you)? How would you have resolved it?
Not treating VGCers as equals. I never really understood the whole stigma against them, but I know we ended up driving away a lot of great contributors to this site over petty squabbling. I don't think I've been active long enough to have been able to resolve it at all, really. It was something that, for some reason, ended up ingrained in our culture, and our culture is kind of tough to change. While that culture is definitely one of this site's greatest strengths, it's also one of it's downfalls. It's too late to change that stuff now, but we should at least be able to learn and improve from it, I hope.

What is one thing you would do to improve Smogon as a whole?
Make it easier for new users to understand how our site functions and the ways of our culture. Right now, they tend to get brushed off or told to "lurk more" way too often, when a push in the right direction is what many (not all) of them need. If that thing you linked Oglemi to goes through, I plan on being a driving force there.

If you could fuse two users together into one super user, which two wouldja pick? Why?
You and sandshrewz. OMG it's too cute to imagine, I can't handle it, aaaaaah!

And finally, are you enjoying your well so far =)?

Definitely. Also, you've probably been the person to get the most out of me in it so far, so thanks for the great questions.
I'm gonna need a lot more booze for that, though >.>

Also, I heard he bought a fleshlight. Am I allowed to ask him questions in my own well?

Just one of many...

@Jelli:

- can you explain how your experience as a waiter has changed your relationship with food? not in a weird rodan-esque (sorry?) way or anything, but how has it made you appreciate food / customer service / restaurants more? Do you ever eat at the restaurant you work at or is that like creepy
Well, I've picked up some recipes along the way, which is definitely handy! Also, I do always watch other waiters / bussers / hosts / etc. when I'm eating out, though I don't do that often. I like to get a feel for how various restaurants work and if there's something they're doing that I could pick up. Also, jeeeeez it's easy to read most servers when they aren't standing right in front of your table. I've eaten at my current restaurant once, because it was an easy stop along a two hour journey that had me hungry. It was one of those weird things where the servers bent over backwards for me, loaded me up with free shit, and I ended up tipping more than enough to make up for it all, haha. Probably wouldn't be eager to do it again, though whenever I leave there, I'd be happy to come back for a meal ^.^

I'm sorry to interrupt the thread a bit here, but Birkal, be nice to v! He may be rude and overly condescending, but that doesn't mean vader is a nazi :<
Wow, I was genuinely surprised by the Juden Komplott Gegen Europa! reference at the end, haha!

Question for Jellicent:

What brand of cigs do you smoke? How many do you smoke per day? Do you see yourself quitting anytime soon? Are you addicted? If so, do you regret starting?

Question for Oglemi:

Describe to me the characteristics that make up the ideal high school teacher. Will you try to be that type of teacher?

Question for Jellicent:

What brand of cigs do you smoke? How many do you smoke per day? Do you see yourself quitting anytime soon? Are you addicted? If so, do you regret starting?
I roll my own. Drum tobacco; shit's strong, but so soothing. Also, rollies are so much cheaper than buying packs, it's not even funny. And, as terrible as it sounds, I prefer smoking unfiltered. I just hits me better ;-;

I smoke a varying amount each day. It really depends on what I'm doing, who I'm hanging out with, etc. I definitely smoke way too much, probably averages out to around one an hour x.x I don't see myself quitting anytime soon, as they really help me sit back and collect my thoughts. My writing inspiration skyrocketed after I started smoking. I wouldn't say I'm addicted, cuz I've gone several days without smoking and didn't have any sort of withdrawal, but I do love it quite a lot and there are definitely times when a cigarette just makes everything so much better.

i am going to but havent yet
Oh, Birkal's just spreading rumors again with his sig. Well, best of like when you buy it. I expect a full review!

@Jellicent

Which religion makes the most sense to you, if any? (Tying into that what are your thoughts on polytheism vs monotheism?)

What is the most interesting (or, like, top 5) facts you learned in religious studies.

Are you more inclined to believe the gods are capricious or consistent, malicious or benevolent?

Who is the person you have treated the worst, be it singular incident or prolonged interaction? Or, failing that, what is the singular worst thing you have done? Judged from the weight of personal guilt following it.

Are you more of a place > people or vice versa kinda guy?

If you could plan a trip around the world which places would you go to, who would you visit, and what activities would you do (be it by yourself or with others, please specify)?

Any idols or people you would love to meet just once?

Can you share some of your poetry?

5 entry level post-punk tracks, 5 moderately esoteric post-punk tracks, 5 really esoteric post-punk tracks.

Any genres beyond post-punk / old-school electronica (or w/e you call it)?

Favourite riddle?

Favourite logical fallacy?

Can you draw?

Did you forsee the level of involvement you have in smogon right now?

What do you think about the badge system?

@Oglemi

What motivates you to do the enormous amount of work you did for the old analyses (it was your defining point for me before we exchanged words on irc, I was just like damn this dude does a lot of work)?

How fabulously do you dress? Or, what is your most fabulous article of clothing?

Do you like clothes or shoe shopping?

Phobias y/n?????

What do you do for thrills?

Does the burden of being a smod ever weigh down on you too hard?

Are you happy?

What are you favourite dance moves?

Chiselled or ripped dudes?

!

Thanks Birkal :3

How did you feel about the conclusion of the Olympic games?

I loved watching the Olympics this time around, I had never really watched any before this one, so I had made it a goal of mine to watch as much as possible of this one. Especially since I probably won't get the opportunity to watch any other Olympics like I did this latest one in the future.

The closing ceremony was amazing, and loved the direction that they took with it. I loved the variety, and glad that the British decided to showcase something that has an amazing history in its own right, and something that nearly everyone can relate to. Not to mention the live performers did fantastic, which is a rarity I think in most circumstances (the Superbowl and SNL are a good example of how a lot of live performances are kinda suckish).

It just kinda sucks that I'll probably never get to watch another Olympics as religiously as I did this one :(

Describe your relationship with both your parents. I know you went into this a bit beforehand, but I wanna know exactly what you think.

My parents are basically the best parents ever. My mom figured out a long time ago that I was gay, and approached me about it like in 8th grade (fuk you Internet history), but I kind of avoided the question so she just let it go and didn't bring it up again until much later. I still don't really know my dad's full opinion on it, I think he may have been a little disappointed, but he hasn't showed it at all in front of me and hasn't been not supportive.

TBH, I don't think I've ever been in a fight with either of my parents. I hear stories from the other kids on my floor about how much they fight with their parents or how stupid they think their parents are sometimes, or how over-controlling their parents are. I've never felt any kind of resentment towards my parents, I don't think ever. I actually love being at home, and miss it when I'm away anywhere.

Me and brother are really good kids though (again, I have a completely spotless record), and I never asked for money as a kid or got into trouble, so my parents were always willing to take us on vacation and do other stuff with us all the time. I also got really good grades in school, and I got a job right away in high school at the grocery store. They also single handedly built up enough money for me to go to college, and are paying my way through it without me really having to do anything. The only stuff that I've had to pay out of my own pocket in my whole life I think is the band trip we took sophomore year in high school, my trip to France in high school, and books for classes now in college.

I mean, I get annoyed at them from time to time, mostly because they're completely technologically-challenged, but I've never felt super angry at them.

We didn't really have a lot of time to "debrief" on our meet up, but how do you think it went? Be honest, haha. Was I what you expected or completely different? What was the most fun thing we did? Also leftover bourbon chicken is DELICIOUS

I went into it prepared for the worst (it's a habit of mine), so it went super well compared to how bad it could have been, lol. I wasn't sure how different your personality was going to be off the computer, but I was glad that it's actually pretty spot on and it was way easier than I was anticipating to talk to you. Also, just walking around on 400 block was pretty funny.

Also bourbon chicken is the best thing ever

If tennis and I entered that soapbox derby, do you think we'd win the $5,000 prize :>

well duh, you guys would probably be the smartest people there, and therefore have the best soapbox

I want to hear some of your thoughts about the education system in the United States today. What does it do right? What about wrong? What do you think of "progressive" schools that are letting kids structure their own lesson plans and schedules? How traditional of a teacher do you think you'll be? What do you envision will be your strongest area as a teacher?

What it does right: The current education system really does teach kids the basics that they need to survive in the real world; most kids are able to read, write, tell time, count money, add/subtract/divide/multiply, know a little bit about the governmental system, etc. by the time that they graduate. There's some stuff here that could use improvement, like better money management classes, or classes that better teach kids what to expect in a job interview, etc. that would teach them more about what to expect in the real world. Many schools do well with teaching kids the basics of having a structured schedule too, particularly for time management.

Most schools are also effective at giving kids a wide berth of different subjects to expose them to the various paths they can take outside of school. It's just such a travesty though that some schools are eliminating their arts programs because of budget issues, when there are a ton of job opportunities available in the real world that require the arts programs.

Social interaction. The current education system does a lot to get kids to know each other and try to make friends, as well as work with their peers to complete projects and such. There's an awful lot that can be improved with the concept of group projects and such, but at least the current education system strives to get kids to work with each other.

What it does wrong: Hard memorization. This is the dumbest thing the current education system does wrong. I know for nearly all of my social studies classes it was basically you just had to memorize the terms for that chapter and then take a quiz, and then never have to use or remember what those terms meant outside of that chapter, let alone that class. The current education system needs more applied learning techniques, so that kids are able to relate concepts to real-life situations. This also applies to math classes and really nearly every class; I couldn't tell you hardly anything that I learned in high school on algebra or geometry, and trying to remember that stuff for my Praxis exams and when I try to help kids in their study hall is a nightmare.

The current education system also allows ineffective teachers to continue teaching for far too long. However, this conflicts severely with my belief that unions are a good thing. It's sad because the unions is what allows ineffective teachers to hold their positions. Outside of that though, unions I believe are a good thing; far too many teachers are forced to take a teaching position where their entry pay actually sets them in the poverty level economically. IMO, teachers should be one of the highest paid jobs in the country, nothing is really more important in our society than teachers.

High school also does nearly nothing to prepare kids looking to go to college difficulty-wise. As a freshman in college I remember being nearly overwhelmed with the amount of coursework that I got just from 4 classes in college. I don't expect high school to suddenly implement super hard classes so that the kids are more prepared for college, especially because not every kid goes to college. But, the AP or IB courses should be far more difficult than they currently are. Because they're already voluntary, it'd give kids an actual taste of what to expect in college. Right now the AP courses at least in my high school are a complete joke compared to college courses, and yet the AP tests are worth college credits in some schools.

Social interaction. There's also a lot wrong with the social interaction that kids have in school with each other. Bullying is rampant in many school systems, as well as the formation of gangs and mean cliques. Luckily, the school that I grew up in cracked down super duper hard on bullying. I remember in middle school our principal would roam the halls at all times in the day and eliminate any kind of bullying. He really strove to have a bullying-free environment, and had little to no mercy on kids that were proved to be bullying (he was scary as shit as a middle schooler, he was 6'2" and had possibly the deepest and loudest voice I can remember at the time). This crack down really made a difference I think in the high school. There was even less tolerance for bullying in the high school, and with it already programmed into the minds of lots of the kids that bullying was bad, there was little to no cases of legit bullying while I was in high school. I really hope our middle school principal publishes a paper of some kind on his process so that other schools can adopt his no tolerance policy.

What's goin' on with this thread ;)

9.9

Both

If you were forced to change your username, what would it be?

it would definitely just be: 9.9

Ten users randomly off the front of your mind, go.

Nexus, Birkal, Omicron, DittoCrow, SilentVerse, Nails, ibo, tennis, Jellicent, Solace

What is your overall opinion on religion? How much does it define you?

I'm gonna half-ass quote Gandhi here: "I like your Christ, I don't like your Christians." This is extremely generalizing, since I really like you Birkal and you're religious. But, too many people in the world use religion as a radical means to cause war and destruction.

I just wish more people would use the love that they have for God/their religion, and instead direct that love on their fellow man. As opposed to giving their love to their God/religion and using their religion as a means to spread hate on their fellow man.

Overall: too much conflict and social tension/division arises from religion, which is a shame. Frankly, even if religion wasn't used in such a way, I'd still be atheist, just because I have a really hard time believing in an all-knowing higher power.

Wittiest user on Smogon?

This is a hard one, because a lot of users have their moments. Overall though, Vader never fails to make me laugh.

What was one of the biggest mistakes of Smogon, past or present? Why do you consider it to be one the biggest mistakes (i.e. why did it upset you)? How would you have resolved it?

This thread

I was really just super mega frustrated that day because nothing was getting done and I was sick of seeing people who didn't do anything for the site anymore in a position of power.

Obviously this was a poor way to go about it, and wouldn't have made the thread if I just took some time to cool off, but idk, I was bored and mad which is a scary combination.

What is one thing you would do to improve Smogon as a whole?

Have a smoother way to transition people to and from power on the site, both in mods/smods/admins, and just regular badges in general (CC comes to mind here...).

Me and Nails had a good convo one night about how by the time anybody here gets in a position in power, they've already done so much that they're burned out and don't want to do anything anymore once they are finally in a position of power or have been recognized. Once in a position of power, some people really overstay their welcome and keep their power way after they're done with the site, which then also stops new contributors from possibly having and using their power effectively.

If you could fuse two users together into one super user, which two wouldja pick? Why?

Obviously yourself and Jellicent. Two of the most awesomeness users and hardest workers combined into one would be insane.

And finally, are you enjoying your well so far =)?
I am secretly hoping for sloppy makeouts at the end of it all

It's going really well, people are coming up with some good questions!

Question for Oglemi:

Describe to me the characteristics that make up the ideal high school teacher. Will you try to be that type of teacher?

The ideal high school teacher is one that doesn't get distracted easily, can keep control of the classroom, is at least moderately exciting, is nice and approachable in and out of class, someone you can put faith in to keep their word, and is a fair grader/instructor. And yes, that's exactly the kind of teacher I'll strive to be.

@Oglemi

What motivates you to do the enormous amount of work you did for the old analyses (it was your defining point for me before we exchanged words on irc, I was just like damn this dude does a lot of work)?

IDK, Nexus calls it OCD. I just want to see the site as a whole up to a certain standard. I want Smogon to be the best site around for anything competitively Pokemon. As soon as I joined the site I was always disappointed with the mistakes and inconsistencies on the site Dex and stuff. I've just always strove to make the site awesome.

How fabulously do you dress? Or, what is your most fabulous article of clothing?

Not fabulously at all, I'm pretty macho and not fashionable at all.

However, I do own one piece of fabulous clothing:

jssexpr01_th.jpg

:naughty:

Do you like clothes or shoe shopping?

Shoe shopping is the worst activity on the planet. Seriously. The worst.

Clothes shopping is ok, still not a fan though.

Phobias y/n?????

FUCK: Spiders, snakes, grasshoppers, other various beetles

What do you do for thrills?

I'm not much of a thrill seeker, but I do enjoy amusement parks and like a lot of different rollercoasters.

Does the burden of being a smod ever weigh down on you too hard?

Not so far, like I said I really don't have any other responsibilities than when I was a mod, I'm just like a mod with access to senior staff.

Are you happy?

Yup ^.^

What are you favourite dance moves?

Chiselled or ripped dudes?

Chiseled guys for sure, definition is way hotter I think than just pure musculature. Again, I'm more into twinks than hunks.

Part 2 of 2

Jellicent

1. Top 6 favorite Pokemon? Don't mind this question, i'm contractually obligated to ask this question or I don't get my mod pay.

2. I um...i'm finding it difficult to ask you questions. Our interactions prior to this have been absolutely 0 lol. Why is that?

3. What's this I hear about Jellicent NOT being your favorite Pokemon. Nonsense.

4. Thoughts on "Energy Ball Jellicent?" I don't think you were around back then, but someone must have filled you in.

5. Top 6 BADASS / MANLIEST Pokemon in your opinion.

6. If you could transform into a Pokemon, which Pokemon would transform into?

7. Are you into anime / manga? If so; let me recommend a bunch of mangas/animes for you. If no; let me recommend a bunch of anime/mangas for you.

8. Let's team up and make a RMT together one day.

9. Null question, next.

10. Hottest fictional character?

Sorry, Windsong? ._.

Anyways, I don't really have any questions right now 'cause I'm bad at them, but I wanted to say this joint well thing is pretty cool =) It's also funny to me since, well, I just associate you two with each other, and when I was sleep-deprived, I actually mistook Jellicent for Oglemi and was really confused... lol forgive me, I <3 you both ;-;

Keep up the great work, guys! ^_^

Oh, and I just thought of something; I'm sorry that it's kinda related to the S word... @.@ Jelli, are you afraid of bugs? Do either of you have any phobias?

ha

@ Both, as one GPer to another GPer: Do you get as annoyed as I do when I see "per say"?

probably not as annoyed, but I just saw it in Tmon's Ditto analysis and I was all like

/me huggle pluff

also I answered the phobias in response to Poppy, but I forgot to mention too that I freaking hate horror movies too, so they're kind of a fear I guess?

@Jellicent

Which religion makes the most sense to you, if any? (Tying into that what are your thoughts on polytheism vs monotheism?)
Out of the major ones, I'd probably say Taoism. I have a fairly basic knowledge of it (though I wrote my senior research paper on it x.x), but from what I've learned, it has a general attitude that I can dig. As for polytheism vs monotheism: neither are something I believe in, but polytheism always seemed better at explaining the more subtle mysteries of life to me...

What is the most interesting (or, like, top 5) facts you learned in religious studies.
Well, I wrote my final research paper on Ancient Han Dynastic Taoist Funerary Art (no idea why, lol). It's largely due to the art found in these tombs that we're able to piece together the origin of the Taoist belief in immortality in the afterlife. At first, there were two camps: those seeking immortality and those seeking an afterlife. The original belief for an afterlife, however, was kinda just a life after your life; you live a bit, die, then live again for a bit, and then finally die for good. There's a lot of confusing stuff to it and it's not really easy to explain, but basically, those beliefs came somewhat together for the belief in an eternal afterlife (a lot more complicated than that). I dunno, I found that kind of interesting, though, since I hadn't really given much thought to a mortal afterlife (seems almost pointless >.>), not that I believe in an afterlife at all x.x

The Spanish Inquisition (and the Medieval ones, too) are really fascinating. I don't even know where to begin there, but I'll say that I lucked out with a perfect teacher for the subject. She traveled to Spain and studied the records in secret. She told the priests she was there to study other stuff, cuz those texts are really controversial and kept top secret, but she managed to take notes late at night and ended up writing a book about it (it just came out, and I haven't gotten it yet, but I fully intend to when I have the cash to spare. Anyone with an interest in it should look into this book, j/s).

Also, Genghis Khan gets a bad rep as nothing but a warlord, but he was actually quite ahead of his time in terms of religious freedom. He welcomed believers of any religion into his empire at a time when most leaders were persecuting others. It paid off for him pretty well, too, as the exiled and persecuted took up arms in his forces and played a big role in the Mongol's quick spread over Asia.

Are you more inclined to believe the gods are capricious or consistent, malicious or benevolent?
Noting the pluralism there, I'd say the gods are a mix, which would explain a consistent but ever changing universe filled with malice and benevolence. A constant struggle for power could explain the many ups and downs of the world. Though, once again, I'm an atheist, so I don't believe that myself.

Who is the person you have treated the worst, be it singular incident or prolonged interaction? Or, failing that, what is the singular worst thing you have done? Judged from the weight of personal guilt following it.
I'd say my roomie and I have seen the very best and worst of each other. There's always guilt for any wrongdoings, but we have a very tolerant and forgiving relationship, and the fact that we can look beyond any past injustices definitely confirms that.

Are you more of a place > people or vice versa kinda guy?
I actually took a class called People and Places. First day, the professor informed us the important lesson that different people are different. Also, different places are different. At that point I just started playing Civ4, ignored the actual lectures, and got an easy A. Total bummer that it didn't actually count towards a science requirement like I had been told; I definitely could have spent that time taking any other class ;-;

To answer your question: not sure what you mean :/ As in, do I prefer places or people? I'll say that I like more places than people, but the right people can outshine any place :)

If you could plan a trip around the world which places would you go to, who would you visit, and what activities would you do (be it by yourself or with others, please specify)?
That's a pretty good question, haha. I'd love to hit up Russia, the UK, Italy, Japan, Australia, and plenty of other countries. I'd probably just want to get to know the different cultures and lifestyles. Activity wise, it would probably be a lot of wandering around, talking to various people, and crashing parties. I wouldn't mind taking a nice long road trip through the US someday, too...

Any idols or people you would love to meet just once?

Jonathan Richman is one of my favorite singers, and he has a very open, upbeat, bare-all, awkward stage presence, and I'd love to see how he is off-stage as well. I've seen him live, and he was great. The guy has an amazing way of reading crowds, and you can tell he gets really excited the more into it his audience becomes. A good mix of down-to-Earth and totally goofy, I can only imagine he's great to talk to.

Also, come to think of it, he kinda reminds me of Birkal for some reason~

Can you share some of your poetry?
You're in luck! I already drunkenly shared some shitty poetry here, woo~

5 entry level post-punk tracks, 5 moderately esoteric post-punk tracks, 5 really esoteric post-punk tracks.
Gonna break out the hide tags, or this'll be huge x.x

I tried reusing artists where I could, cuz I like how some tracks from a band can easily lure you in while others can sometimes take repeated listenings before they really stick :)

(Also, glen, go ahead and post way more esoteric post-punk shit than that, if you wanna. I'm not the best judge of what's esoteric >.>)

Any genres beyond post-punk / old-school electronica (or w/e you call it)?
Garage and art punk are always winners with me. Also, I really dig stuff like Sinatra and Dean Martin, whatever jazzy-big-band-pop-swing genre you wanna loop them into. Neo-psychedelic stuff is great to chill out to, new wave's great when you're in that psyched and poppy mood, and there's nothing quite like some old-fashioned rockabilly on a hot summer day~

Favourite riddle?
Baaah, I can't think of any good riddles ;-;

Um, this is kind of a riddle, I guess? Not a hard one, but one hell of a catchy one:

TMBG actually employs a lot of riddles in their songs, but this is their only song that jumps to mind that actually is a riddle. I dunno, I don't normally do riddles >.>

Favourite logical fallacy?
Not the kind of thing I have a "favorite" of :/ I'll say that I've found a lot of them within various religious and political beliefs, and it's why I remain unaffiliated with any religion or polical stance and will not really be discussing those in my well, if possible.

Can you draw?

Did you forsee the level of involvement you have in smogon right now?
Not at all, haha. I figured I would just do some GP stuff, maybe post around some other forums on occasion. Somehow that escalated quickly X__X

What do you think about the badge system?
I don't care much about badges, to be honest. It's kinda like a sticker saying good job; it's nice to have, but if you're only working for the sticker, there's probably more fun things you could be doing on Smogon. Access to the SCMS and IS is certainly nice, though, so I can see wanting to try to get a badge for that reason. The system itself could probably be a bit more lenient...

Though if I ever get as many as Bloo, I'll probably say fuck it and try to collect them all~

Also, sorry I took so long to answer you, Poppy! That was a lot :P

Everyone else, I'll be getting to you soon~

Jelli, I really liked your poem 'Some shit about clouds.' (Is that the actual name?) Anyway, I love poetry (hate novels, I can't concentrate on them for long enough). What advice would you give to someone who would like to write poetry but is a bit shit? I suppose this would be useful for writing in general.
