Hi all, recently created a team from scratch using a mixture of my own preferences and a few of the sets listed on here.
I apologize for not using images but I don't know where to find the numbers for the images for each pokemon.
The inspiration for my team revolves around ChoiceSpecs Hydreigon. He is an absolute beast if you can get the timing right with him.
The other pokes on my team look to compliment Hydreigon as well as provide support and check his common counters.
The Team:
1. Hydreigon
2. Terrakion
3. Magnezone
4. Gyarados
5. Forretress
6. Blissey
In depth:
1.
Hydreigon (F) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Levitate
EV's: 64 HP / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
Move Set:
~ Draco Meteor
~ Dragon Pulse
~ Flamethrower
~ Focus Blast
The inspiration for my team. Let me introduce you to an absolute beast. I will often lead with this guy (girl actually!) and catch most other leads by surprise. The EV's in speed allow me to get the first attack very often and his vast moveset provides great coverage, not to mention with his special attack boosts, he boasts a whopping 547 stat. A lot of the time opposing leads will just switch out right away, giving me a tempo advantage.
Focus Blast hits T-Tar for 4x super effective damage while Draco Meteor takes care of basically everything else. Flamethrower OHKO's or 2HKO's leads like forretress and ferrothorn who come in thinking that I will use Draco Meteor and be forced to switch out, giving them time to set up spikes and the like.
I am considering removing dragon pulse from this set because I don't find myself using it very often. Specs DMeteor is so powerful that it rarely runs out of PP so Dragon pulse is rarely used. If anyone can suggest a better move to put in its place I will definitely give it a try!
2.
Terrakion @ Rock Gem
Trait: Justified
EV's: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
Move Set:
~ Substitute
~ Swords Dance
~ Close Combat
~ Stone Edge
The main reason this guy is on the team is to clear the path for Hydreigon. Since Hydreigon is easily walled by the liked of blissey + chancey, Terrakion comes in and takes them out or forces them to switch out, giving me time to sub + swords dance.
That's not to say that Terrakion isn't an absolute BEAST, even when he's not playing support for Hydreigon. After one SD Terrakion can rip holes through opposing teams and stone edge (with rock gem) hits flying types like dragonite and salamence, thus providing good extra coverage.
If I'm allowed to set up with this guy, I don't even need Hydreigon a lot of the time lol.
Even without swords dance he is a major threat and a great physical presence on my team, not to mention he provides great defensive bulk with his base stats.
3.
Magnezone @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EV's: 36 HP / 252 SpA / 220 Spe
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
Move Set:
~ Substitute
~ Thunderbolt
~ Hidden Power (Ice)
~ Charge Beam
Magnezone is a great compliment to Hydreigon + Terrakion, switching in on pesky steel types like Scizor (who is all too common in OU) and taking them out with a few charge beams or two Tbolts. His great special attack allows Tbolt to do a lot of damage, and if I am allowed to get behind a sub and set up some +1's with charge beam, he is absolutely devastating.
His defensive bulk is amazing when it comes to checking physical attackers, and even special ones (bar fire types and alakazam). A lot of the time I will switch him in on a bullet punch or mach punch and proceed to take very little damage, getting off a (basically) free sub after leftovers recovery. The sub gives me extra time once my opponent switches in to a fire type.
The extra speed EV's allow Magnezone to outspeed swords dance scizor along with basically all other steel types, which is the main reason he is here.
Once the steels are out of the way, Terrakion and Hydreigon are much more comfortable.
4.
Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EV's: 248 Atk / 56 HP / 204 Spe
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
Move Set:
~ Substitute
~ Dragon Dance
~ Waterfall
~ Stone Edge
You've probably noticed that I like to use substitute a lot. The main reason that it is on Gyara is to protect from status ailments (which he hates) and to give an extra turn in which to set up a DD and follow up with a STAB waterfall or a powerful stone edge.
Gyara provides excellent coverage as a relatively bulky water type while still providing excellent attacking prowess. He loves switching in on fire attacks aimed at Magnezone or Forretress or even fighting attacks aimed at Tyrakkion or Hydreigon (which he doesn't take quite as well unfortunately).
Like my other pokes with sub, Gyara can be a menace if he is allowed to set up. He checks dragonite (without Thunder) and Salamence pretty well thanks to Stone Edge and is overall tough to take down (especially with Blissey on the squad) + dangerous at the same time.
5.
Forretress (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EV's: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Nature: Calm (+SpD, -Atk)
Move Set:
~ Spikes
~ Toxic Spikes
~ Rapid Spin
~ Volt Switch
My spinner and hazard setter, Forretress is a key to this team and I usually do absolutely everything I can to keep him alive at least until the oppnent's spinner is down and out. He provides great support to all my pokes thanks to his entry hazards, and saves them from deadly entry hazard damage thanks to rapid spin.
Volt switch allows me to escape Magnezone and other Pokes with magnet pull, thus allowing me to keep Forretress alive a little longer.
I am considering replacing spikes with stealth rock, but have found toxic spikes to be very useful if the opponent has no absorber.
The special defense and HP boost let Forretress take a non-STAB fire move and live to tell the tale.
I opted for Forretress over Ferrothorn because of his moveset (rapid spin + toxic spikes) even though he is more frail.
6.
Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EV's: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
Move Set:
~ Wish
~ Protect
~ Toxic
~ Seismic Toss
Blissey's role is simple; keep the other members of the team alive for as long as possible. She provides huge wishes that easily replenish any member of my team to full health. Toxic stops other sweepers from setting up easily in front of her and seismic toss provides consistent damage late in the game.
I am considering replacing Blissey with Wish support Vaporeon since it has the ability to do much more damage than Blissey can. Please post your suggestions or provide alternatives.
--------
Extra notes:
All in all this team has proved extremely tough to beat in it's early stages. One problem that I have noticed is my glaring weakness to fighting types.
Hydreigon, Terrakion, Magnezone, Forretress AND Blissey are all weak to fighting. This has been quite a problem. If anyone can please provide a way to overcome this it would be greatly appreciated. This is one of the reasons I have considered switching Blissey for a more physically defensive Vaporeon.
Other than that, I haven't had any trouble with any one specific type or pokemon who can wall my team.
Earlier today I was absolutely destroyed by a Mamoswine, but only because I made a bad decision early on which caused Gyara to die. Once again, maybe Vaporeon can help here...
Thanks for your time, I look forward to comments!
