Rate My Stallish Team(with Hariyama!)

roserade.png

Roserade @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
EV: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Sleep Powder
-Toxic Spikes
-Leaf Storm
-Hidden Power [Fire]

Roserade makes a pretty nice lead as it scares off most opponents with the threat of Sleep Powder. Focus Sash+Natural Cure is very nice, as it allows me to mispredict once and still have her alive. Sets up Toxic Spikes for the stalling to commence, and also has a very nice special attack stat, which is why Leaf Storm is there.

hariyama.png

Hariyama @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)
EV: 204 HP / 52 Atk / 252 Def
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Revenge
-Ice Punch/ThunderPunch
Hariyama is a great pokemon. It helps counter some of the most potent offensive threats in the game. Tyranitar, Infernape, Heatran, Weavile, and many others have trouble getting past him. I went for a bulkier EV spread because I am using Revenge, which OHKOs Tyranitar without such attack investments. With this spread he can survive a SD Earthquake from Jolly Garchomps, allowing me to Revenge or get rid of their Yache Berry. Rest is for means of recovery and Sleep Talk allows him to absorb status. LO Infernape does a mere 32% to this with Flamethrower, and Close Combat does 43%, not even a 2HKO when you factor in Stealth Rock. Meanwhile, after Infernape attacks Revenge does 72-84%, which is enough for LO recoil to finish it off. A common theme on this team is a Gyarados weak, so ThunderPunch/Stone Edge are options as well.

zapdos.png

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
EV: 252 HP / 160 SpD / 96 Spe
-Substitute
-Roost
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power [Ice]

This is probably the most annoying Zapdos out there. I remember fighting one of these and it was an absolute pain in the ass, so I figured I would use it. It has really great synergy with Hariyama, as it resists flying while Hariyama resists both of its weaknesses, ice and rock. If I have a Sub up, it allows me to Roost one more time then pass off. The best part about this is even when switching into Stealth Rock, I can use Substitute, and then Roost will fully recover the damage. Generally I find that HP Ice is more useful for switchin Garchomps and such, but Baton Pass may be the better option as it allows me to pass Substitutes to teammates.

heatran.png

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
EV: 252 HP / 56 SpA / 200 SpD
-Taunt
-Lava Plume
-Stealth Rock
-Earth Power

This Heatran here sets up the team very nicely. Taunt prevents Blissey from using status attacks and also aids in stalling her out of PP. Lava Plume and Stealth Rock help to defeat Gyarados and Salamence, two pokes who enjoy switching into his fire attacks. Lava Plume's burn rate also helps against Tyranitars and Garchomps who want to switch in. The special attack allows me to OHKO the standard Skarmory with Lava Plume while also acting as a decent special sponge for things like SpecsMence.

suicune.png

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EV: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
-Surf
-Calm Mind
-Rest
-Sleep Talk/Hidden Power [Electric]

Crocune seemed perfect for this team because its counters are easily handled by Zapdos and Roserade. It also aids to the stallish theme of the team with Pressure, Rest, and Sleep Talk. It gives me a second status absorber in case I decide to put my Hariyama to sleep for health(self induced sleep doesn't activate sleep clause). Lastly, Suicune can actually sweep, unlike most of the pokes on this team. This is important because if my strategy fails and Toxic Spikes aren't set up, I can still rely on him to take down a few pokes. HP Electric is there in case I have issues with Gyarados when testing, so far so good tho, as Zapdos handled them pretty well.

garchomp.png

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Veil
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
EV: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge/Toxic
-Fire Blast

Garchomp takes advantage of the Toxic Spikes by using a Scarf to clean things up. This is especially useful when fighting things like Hippowdon and Vaporeon. My main issue with this is whether to run Stone Edge or Toxic. Stone Edge helps revenge kill Gyarados, while Toxic can help wear down non-Resting Cresselia. Other than that this guy has been fantastic.

Yeah this team is quite Gyara weak. I think you should either put ThunderPunch on Hariyama AND put Stone Edge on Garchomp(just in case Waterfall flinches Hariyama) or make your Suicune a Vaporeon, with Wish, Hidden Power [Electric], Surf, and Protect. Either one would work well, and the latter will help Heatran, who doesn't have any recovery, stay in tip top shape.

To me, this team looks rather solid.

Gyarados shouldn't be a big problem, as Zapdos can come in and thunderbolt it, just pray it doesn't have Ice Fang.
Roserade's Leaf Storm will also dent it, and Hariayama can finish it off. Crocune completely walls it if its only two attacks are waterfall and Ice fang, and can surprise it will HP Electric. Just watch out for taunt.

The biggest problem is many, if not all Gyarados have either Stone Edge or Ice Fang, the former to hit opposing Gyarados and the latter for dragons. Stone Edge will OHKO Zapdos after a DD, but then again, it needs Ice Fang AND Stone Edge to beat out Garchomp and Zapdos. Overall, just don't let it get 2 DDs because then you are definitely screwed as Garchomp is outsped and nearly OHKOed by Waterfall.

EDIT: I think the bigger threat for this team is SD Lucario, who is immune to Toxic Spikes and can really mess up the sponges you have. Zapdos is easily OHKOed by Extremespeed after a SD, with Stealth Rock laid down. Suicune is OHKOed by Close Combat, as well as Hariyama and Heatran. I am not sure but I believe Extremespeed might OHKO Garchomp and it definitely OHKOs Roserade. I think a good choice on this team would be making Garchomp bulky, and putting Stealth Rock and Roar on him. Make it at 281 speed to outspeed Lucario and other pokes trying to outspeed him, then put the rest into the defenses and attack. Now Heatran can use Choice Scarf and Flamethrower will OHKO for insurance.

@ blasphemy1, if I make Heatran Scarfed it makes switching in my Zapdos much more difficult. Taunt allows me to switch my Zapdos into Cresselia and Blissey without worry, and it also prevents Gyarados from grabbing a free DD, thus allowing me to send in Zapdos to kill it.

Also, the other purpose of my ScarfChomp is beating up Yache Berry SD Garchomp, who destroys the team otherwise. With my Garchomp, I can just revenge kill it very easily.

I do like the sound of bulky Garchomp but I don't think I am going that route.

This is incredibly similar to the team I use as CrayonFactoryHero, though yours takes a more stall-ish approach than mine does.

Probably the most valuable piece of advice I can give here is to give Suicune Rest/Sleep Talk/Calm Mind/Surf. Suicune + Toxic Spikes is incredibly difficult to beat without Zapdos or Roserade, and you have both of them covered nicely between your SpDef Heatran and Hariyama. This set makes it a huge risk to phase Suicune with things like Skarm and Swampert.

Additionally, Suicune should have a few Speed and SpAtk EVs. Something like 252 HP / 220 Def / 24 SpAtk / 12 Speed works well, since it will beat pretty much every Cresselia and opposing Suicune and give you the edge in a CM battle. The 24 SpAtk may seem like nothing, but after 6 Calm Minds it translates to a very significant 24 SpAtk points.

No matter how defensive Heatran is, it needs speed. You really, really want to outrun things like Tyranitar, Defensive Zapdos, Celebi, Jirachi, Suicune, Milotic. Preventing recovery when Toxic Spikes are down is incredibly powerful, and it is not something you should ignore. (I'm at the airport right now so I don't have time to make an exact spread, though it shouldn't be too difficult to find what you want to outspeed with taunt/lava plume and set its speed there).

Focus Sash is really tempting on a lead Roserade, but I don't think this team is fast enough that it wants to offer Roserade as a sacrifice so early in the game. It can be a vital switch-in to things like Celebi, Magnezone, and Bulky Waters, which you might not have an answer to. In addition, it will help immensely against stall teams which have a grounded poison/rapid spinner (especially since you don't have a spin blocker!). I would give it Black Sludge instead. You have to be a little more cautious, but it's worth it to make roserade reusable against stall teams.

Even with two rest/talkers, LO Gengar is a problem. You could possibly make Zapdos more Special Defense oriented, but I have seen speed Sub/Roost Zapdos in action and I know that it absolutely wrecks a lot of teams. I know you have ways to beat Gengar already, but if your opponent predicts at all you will be in trouble.

Garchomp needs Stone Edge to beat Gyarados. I also prefer to run Jolly over Adamant, since it beats a lot of pokes even with a double speed boost (Agiligross, DD Tar, some Gyarados, and a few others), not to mention beating anyone foolish enough not to run max speed on their Deoxys-E.

My flight is boarding now, so I don't have time to proofread =/
Oh well.

Good Luck; Hope this Helps! --TAY
