Rate my VGC 2010 team.

Hey guys, wanted to show you people a team i have been testing and working on. I understand that you can use two uber pokemon (correct me if im wrong) this time around, so i plan to abuse that :) Also, this is my first post Woot!!

Zapdos @ Sitrus Berry
pressure
248hp/130spdef/130def
Modest
-Thunder Bolt
-Heat Wave
-Hp Grass
-Thunder Wave

My Zappy :) Zapdos is one of my starters as it is invulnerable to earthquake, which i believe is good in a double battle. Thunder bolt for that good stab, and hitting pokemon like kyogre for Super effective. Heat Wave is to hit both members of the opposing team, and with the boost it gets from Groudons drought, it packs more of a punch. Hp grass for any rock types that cant be hurt, or for swampert. Thunder wave is also a good starting move as it cripples pokemon early in the game, rendering them useless for much of the game. It also brings out the pokemons lum berry.

Groudon @ iron ball
Drought
112hp/252atk/144spatk
Brave
-Dragon claw
-Solar Beam
-Fire Punch
-Earthquake

My other lead pokemon Groudon. He is my Earth quake user, having high Atk and Stab coming off of it. Most importantly, most of my pokemon have immunities to ground moves, so he can use it without worry. Solar Beam was for Kyogres that switch in or to finish off any pokemon, his drought ability increases the fire power of his moves, and lets him fire off repeated solar beams. Fire punch is once again to abuse the Drought ability, and dragon claw was for extra coverage. Iron ball makes him go last, so that he definitly gets the sun in and so that he is my main attacker in a trick room team.

Togekiss @ Lum Berry
Serene Grace
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Modest
-Tri Attack
-Air Slash
-Aura SPhere
-Shadow Ball

My Status inflictor. With Kiss, i can inflict status upon the enemy while also dealing damage. Tri Attack is a high power attack, taking advantage of Kiss's high sp attack. It also has a 40 percent chance to inflict burn, freeze, or paralysis. Air Slash is a staple move for Kiss, using the 60 percent flinch rate to annoy the opponent. However if the enemy is faster than me i will use shadow ball to get the 40 percent chaance of lowering the opponets special defense. Aura Sphere is also a reliable move, its strong, never misses, and is something to fall back on.

giratina_origin.png

Giratina-O @ griseous orb
Levitate
86 HP / 216 Atk / 96 SpD / 112 Spe
Adamant
-Shadow Sneak
-Shadow Force
-Outrage
-Pain Split

A wall/attacker. I wanted him so that if all other pokemon die, i have a last resort, so to speak. all of his attacks greatly benefit from the orb, and shadow force's damage out put increases immensly. Outrage increases the same way. Shadow sneak is a good priority move for finishing off attackers, and pain split is to increase his durability.

so all in all i would say this is a good team right?

I think lack of Protect could be a real issue for you. You have nothing to guard against a simple Explosion combo (other than switching in Giratina, but you still lose something), and it's not just Explosion that Protect helps against. Obviously, you're pretty safe when it comes to Metagross as most of your team is a good match for it, but you could still get caught out by something. Also, every Pokémon on your team is weak to Ice. This is just asking to be demolished by the likes of Abomasnow + Mewtwo / Palkia with dual Blizzards.

Since you're pairing Zapdos with Groudon, why not give Discharge a try? Then you can hit both foes instead of just one. There's also a decent paralysis chance, so you can drop Thunder Wave (which isn't the best move in this format). I don't think Hidden Power Grass is needed, as I can't think of a threat that really puts a halt to you without it other than Tyranitar (but you have Groudon's Earthquake anyway). You can hit opposing Groudon with Heat Wave, while the sun will most likely be out, so it'll hurt them. So, go for Detect instead of Hidden Power Grass. Detect is the better option over Protect so you don't get blocked by Imprison. Sitrus Berry is a fine item, but maybe Chesto or Lum Berry on at least one lead would be a good idea.

Groudon doesn't need SolarBeam, and if an opponent switches in Kyogre, the rain will make you have to charge up your attack. But even then, you've paired Groudon with Zapdos... So why do you need Groudon to beat Kyogre when Zapdos can do the big damage? Go all out physical with Groudon, using Earthquake and Rock Slide to do your damage. Have Protect on Groudon just because it's so useful in many situations, then decide on your last attack. I'd expect Swords Dance to be a worthy option, but Dragon Claw or Fire Punch could be worthwhile, or perhaps Roar to block Trick Room. I think Iron Ball isn't needed, Try Chesto / Lum / Yache / Rindo Berry.

I'd get rid of Togekiss, preferably for something that can beat the likes of Abomasnow. Metagross is a good shout and pairs well with Giratina, but it's something that doesn't suit well with Groudon obviously. I still think it'd be worth putting in, as long as it carries Protect, Bullet Punch, Explosion, and Hammer Arm or Earthquake. A Shuca Berry or Sitrus Berry would be a good idea choice too.

As for Giratina, I wouldn't be too fond of using the Origin Forme, or Pain Split. I can see Pain Split not buying you much time, as you could still get hit twice and faint that turn. Giratina Altered Forme is more bulky and can still deal high damage, so I think you should try that - you can also use a better item that way. Dragon Claw is something I'd use over Outrage, as Outrage picks a random target in doubles, when something is 50/50 I'd rather not try it unless it's a last resort. The last attack should be Protect to help scout / stall etc, or maybe Destiny Bond?

wow, thanks for the rate. I see the lack of protect, and i will overwrite a move for it. And i saw the ice weakness, which is why i emphasized slightly on groudons drought ability. However if in doubles, this is a big problem i will switch. I did not want to try discharge on zap because i was afraid of hitting my other poke's, however ill give it a try as that opens room for detect. And if i drop HP grass that leaves room for another attack? what is your opinion? And i wanted to try and keep zap alive as i thought it may be a good powerhouse late game, however i may change to Chesto. Groudon with solarbeam is for extra precaucion (spelling?) because Ky can OHKO or 2HKO groudon with the right move, however discharge will be the only hitter now. I will change to Rock slide, Protect, EarthQuake, but i will probably use dragon claw or roar instead because setting up in doubles, is hard. I'd also put a yache on him, however ma i ask what rindo does? If i put meta, i would think of putting in ice punch. He hits dragons hard with that move, and i also like the Explosion trick. I went for giritina Origin because i mainly use his ghost/dragon attacks in battle, so they would have a good boost in battle. All in all thanks for the big rate

Using Zpaods with Thunderbolt, Discharge, Heat Wave, and Detect wouldn't be out of the question. As long as you have Groudon out, or if you use Protect with your other Pokémon, you're free to use Discharge. But if you only need to hit one thing, you can use Thunderbolt.

Rindo Berry weakens super effective Grass-type attacks.

i see, but with every poke having protect i dont think that having t-bolt would be good. Maybe a move with more coverage? Oh and thanks for rindo info.

Togekiss has an offensive moveset, which is perfectly fine for VGC, but its EVs are very defensive. I would use a spread of 252HP/252SpAtk/6SpDef, as the extra power is welcome. Also, run Protect over Shadow Ball. With Giratina-O, Ghost Pokemon shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure how you managed to get a Shiny Togepi with Tri-Attack in Pokemon XD, make sure it is legitimate. Else you could face being disqualified

Apart from that it seems to be a well built team

GL

oh its not really shiny, i just like the shiny sprites :) So i thought of changing the team up a little i'll put my changes in bold

also i've thought of changing giratina to raquaza (1st choice) or Kyogre (Choice Specs variant) to aid my team against weather inducing pokemon.
