[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Dragon Ascent is Rayquaza's primary STAB attack, as it is able to 2HKO most Pokemon that do not resist Flying.
* V-create is a powerful coverage move that hits Steel-types such as Magearna and Necrozma-DM super effectively.
* Draco Meteor OHKOes Zygarde before Power Construct, Ultra Necrozma, and Giratina-O after Stealth Rock while hitting defensive Yveltal for more damage than Dragon Ascent would.
* Toxic can chip away at switch-ins that do not get 2HKOed by Dragon Ascent or V-create, such as defensive Arceus-Fairy and Lugia.
* Defog is an option in case the team needs entry hazard removal and is especially useful against Sticky Web teams.

Set Details
========

* Choice Scarf Rayquaza is a revenge killer that can still 2HKO support Arceus formes while being able to cleanly revenge kill Ultra Necrozma with Draco Meteor, setting it apart from Choice Scarf Ho-Oh and Yveltal.
* Maximum Attack investment along with a Naughty nature maximizes Rayquaza's Attack, allowing it to 2HKO maximum HP Arceus formes.
* Maximum Speed investment with a Choice Scarf ensures that Rayquaza outspeeds most of the unboosted metagame as well as +1 Zygarde-C after a Dragon Dance.
* A Naughty nature is chosen to ensure less damage from Marshadow's Shadow Sneak and Yveltal's Sucker Punch.
* A Lonely nature may be desired if Rayquaza would like to take less damage from support Arceus formes as well as Primal Groudon's Overheat.

Usage Tips
========

* Choice Scarf Rayquaza should be brought in primarily for revenge killing threats such as Mega Gengar and Primal Kyogre, as it is quite frail.
* Be sure to keep Rayquaza healthy throughout the game if it is needed for threats such as Ultra Necrozma and Marshadow.
* However, if Rayquaza is not needed to check key threats, it can be used aggressively to heavily dent powerful opposing Pokemon such as Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.
* Even against bulkier playstyles, Rayquaza can slowly wear down checks such as Lunala and defensive Arceus-Ground with the use of Toxic.
* Rayquaza can be utilized late-game as a cleaner against faster offensive teams once Flying-type switch-ins are removed.
* Try to avoid letting Rayquaza get crippled with status or take too much residual Stealth Rock damage if it is needed to check priority users such as Marshadow.

Team Options
========

* In general, Choice Scarf Rayquaza belongs on bulky offense teams that appreciate its powerful speed control capabilities.
* Choice Scarf Rayquaza appreciates Defog support from teammates such as Giratina-O, Arceus-Ground, and Arceus-Water.
* Mega Gengar can trap and eliminate many of Rayquaza's checks such as Arceus-Fairy and defensive Xerneas, while Rayquaza pressures many threats that force Mega Gengar out, such as Ho-Oh and Primal Kyogre.
* Stealth Rock support from the likes of Primal Groudon and specially defensive Necrozma-DM can help Rayquaza achieve more consistent 2HKOs.
Yveltal and Lunala pressure many of the same threats that Rayquaza does, such as Primal Groudon and Lugia, allowing Rayquaza to break them down more easily.
* Zygarde-C can wall out many physical threats that Rayquaza struggles to beat once locked into a move, including Necrozma-DM and Ho-Oh.

This analysis misses the most important thing for both new players and veterans who've never used this set in USM: what are the allures of using a Choice Scarf Rayquaza? One or two brief, but thoughtful bullets at the start of set details or moves can remedy this.

This is perhaps the most definitive tell that the writer has never used the set in question, or lacks the depth of understanding required to inform others about it.

Mention Mega Gengar as a team option, they have good offensive and It traps the primary Rayquaza checks such as Arceus-Fairy. Rayquaza removes Pokemon Mega Gengar struggles against. Mention these.

Draco Meteor OHKOes Zygarde before Power Construct, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O after Stealth Rock while hitting Defensive Yveltal for more damage than Dragon Ascent would.
It's a bit inconsistent to tout the RK on Ultra Necro via DM as the justification for the set while not mentioning Ultra Necro here.

Choice Scarf Rayquaza is a fantastic revenge killer that can 2HKO Support Arceus formes while being able to cleanly revenge kill Ultra Necrozma with Draco Meteor, setting it apart from Scarf Ho-Oh and Scarf Yveltal.
Yveltal RKs Ultra Necro, so I'm confused as to why Scarf Ray is mentioned as being set apart from Yveltal on the basis of RKing Ultra Necro.

252 Spe EVs with a Choice Scarf ensure that Rayquaza outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame...
This is a false claim as Deo-A and Deo-S are faster than 252 Scarf Ray, and so are a couple other pseudo-relevant Pokes.

In general, Choice Scarf Rayquaza belongs on balanced teams that appreciate its powerful speed control capabilities.
Issue of context here, but balance in my perspective means teams that utilize mons with staying power in order to support bulky wallbreakers i.e. Ho-Oh balance. Strong role compression is required for balances to have cohesion in modern gens, and Scarf Ray is not something that has staying power, or is a bulky wallbreaker, or is particularly good at role compression. The USM meta is far more focused on Bulky Offenses, which are characterized by their greater willingness to trade damage and place more importance on holding momentum, which is what this set seems to really be about. Balance and Bulky Offense are two totally different things, especially in USM, so it's worthwhile to be clear on this language. If you do mean balance, please provide several examples of strong balance structures that utilize Scarf Ray because I'm not convinced.

I'm always looking for more depth in team options. For this analysis think BO core structures that actually warrant this set in the first place due to their struggle to resolve checks on Ultra Necro / Support Arc or even discussion on how to resolve the general issue associated with keeping this set in proactive situations.

Toxic can chip away at switch-ins that do not get 2HKOed by Dragon Ascent or V-Create, such as Defensive Arceus-Fairy and Defensive Yveltal.
252+ Atk Rayquaza Dragon Ascent vs. 252 HP / 176+ Def Yveltal: 190-225 (41.6 - 49.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

It’s mostly for stuff like Lugia, the two you listed would just be ascent fodder. (unless u struggle to setup sr which would be worth specifying) This also applies to ur comment on Draco hitting ygod harder. It’s technically true but only on the first use so in reality you will never aim a draco at it.

Yveltal and Lunala pressure many of the same threats that Rayquaza does such as Arceus-Fairy and Primal Groudon, allowing an easier breakdown of the aforementioned threats.
lunala definitely doesnt have any overlap with ray and ygod only really has overlap vs magearna builds.

252+ Atk Rayquaza Dragon Ascent vs. 252 HP / 160 Def Arceus-Dark: 178-211 (40 - 47.5%) -- 52.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

a lot of (most?) arc aren’t this fat and even when they are, u got favorable rolls or just need very minor chip to break. most opponents won’t want to take that risk if they are aware and have other options. the stuff that u want to deal with are the mons that will make u guess away from clicking ascent; fly resists and superfats like zyg/tina. ray obvs has coverage for them but not guessing is so much better.

Zygarde-C can wall out many physical threats that Rayquaza struggles to beat once locked into a move, including Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, and Arceus
That is one super ballsy ekiller or a really desperate one. unless it came in for the rk, it either has to safe play espeed (unboosted) or try to sd/recover on the switch. not really a situation id focus on in the builder. I get xhy u mentioned ho-oh and i guess it can stay but its mostly the fly resists u want a switch in for. Tangent, but the most annoying bit about ho-oh for scarf ray is that fat variants can be used to scout which move it locks into if there is no sr up.

Primal Kyogre can take on defensive Arceus formes that switch into Choice Scarf Rayquaza, while Rayquaza checks Groudon for Kyogre.
ehhh not really true for either cases. again, support arcs aren’t ur biggest fear and ogre isnt harding into an arc water. ray is a really shitty pdon check. there’s not much overlap between the two besides tina i guess?

Scarf Ray is still kinda novel atm, ive been using it on an ho-oh team for fly spam overlap and iirc M_M had a similar structure. Therefore, I think it’s fairly safe to assume those are the sort of teams u want for scarf ray and that ho-oh is a good partner. (fly spam plus u both benefit from the defog support commonly seen on ho-oh teams)

Moves
========
  • Dragon Ascent is Rayquaza's primary STAB attack of choice as it is able to land a 2HKO on most Pokemon that do not resist flying.
  • V-create is a powerful coverage that hits Steel-types such as Magearna and Necrozma-DM super effectively. (mention Skarm/Celes too, otherwise ppl will wonder "why not just run Earthquake, which doesn't lower your speed and hits Rock types")
  • Draco Meteor OHKOes Zygarde before Power Construct, Mega Salamence, and Giratina-O after Stealth Rock while hitting Defensive Yveltal for more damage than Dragon Ascent would.
  • Toxic can chip away at switch-ins that do not get 2HKOed by Dragon Ascent or V-Create, such as Arceus formes with a lot of Defense investment, physically Defensive Yveltal, and Lugia.
  • Defog is an option in case the team needs hazards removal and is especially useful against Sticky Webs Offense because Rayquaza is immune to Sticky Web, so it is very hard to prevent it from Defogging.
  • Surf OHKOs offensive Primal Groudon from full health, and it also hits Rock-types like Mega Diancie, Tyranitar, and Arceus-Rock which can otherwise switch into this set comfortably.
Set Details
========
  • Choice Scarf Rayquaza is a fantastic revenge killer that can 2HKO most Support Arceus formes while being able to cleanly revenge kill Ultra Necrozma with Draco Meteor, setting it apart from Scarf Ho-Oh and Scarf Yveltal.
  • 12 Special Attack EVs guarantee that Rayquaza OHKOs maximum HP Zygarde from full health with Draco Meteor prior to its transformation. ( 12 SpA Rayquaza Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Zygarde: 420-494 (100 - 117.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO )
  • 244 Attack EVs along with a Naughty nature maximzes Rayquaza's attack, allowing it to 2HKO Max HP Arceus formes with minimal Defense investment after Stealth Rock. ( 252+ Atk Rayquaza Dragon Ascent vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Arceus-Fairy: 204-241 (45.9 - 54.2%) -- 54.3% chance to 2HKO, 252+ Atk Rayquaza Dragon Ascent vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Arceus-Fairy: 204-241 (45.9 - 54.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock )
  • 252 Spe EVs with a Choice Scarf ensure that Rayquaza outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame as well as Zygarde-C after a Dragon Dance. (someone else mentioned the 1st part but the 2nd part isn't true either, you speed tie because both are base 95s)
  • A Naughty nature is chosen to ensure less damage is taken from priority attacks like Shadow Sneak from Marshadow and Sucker Punch from Yveltal that are often used in an attempt to revenge kill Rayquaza.
  • A Lonely nature may be desired if Rayquaza would like to take less damage from Support Arceus formes (how so? they all ohko you with ice beam whether you're -spd or not) as well as Primal Groudon's Overheat and Kyogre's Water-type moves.
Usage Tips
========
  • Choice Scarf Rayquaza should be brought in primarily for revenge killing threats such as Mega Gengar and Primal Kyogre as it is quite frail (being frail isnt related to the threats it revenge kills).
  • It's very frail, so it should ideally be brought in via a pivoting move/double switch, or given a free switch once a teammate has fainted.
  • Be sure to keep Rayquaza healthy throughout the game if it is needed for threats such as Ultra Necrozma and Marshadow. Why does being healthy matter for non-prio attackers, a Rayquaza at 1% revenge kills Unec just the same as a Rayquaza at 100% does
  • However, if Rayquaza is not needed to check revenge kill key threats, it can be used offensively to heavily dent powerful opposing Pokemon such as Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre. to wallbreak
  • Even against bulkier playstyles, Rayquaza can slowly wear down checks such as Lunala and Defensive Arceus-Ground with the usage of Toxic.
  • Rayquaza can be utilized late-game as a cleaner against faster offensive teams once Flying-type resists are removed.
  • Try to avoid letting Rayquaza get statused or take much residual Stealth Rock damage if it is needed to check priority users such as Marshadow. (this basically says the same thing as BP #3 but better, so just delete the earlier one)
Team Options
========
  • In general, Choice Scarf Rayquaza belongs on balanced teams that appreciate its powerful speed control capabilities want a speed control user that, unlike Choice Scarf Ho-Oh/Yveltal/etc, cannot easily be walled by common defensive Pokemon such as support Arceus formes and Zygarde-C.
    • (agree with Minority, "bulky offensive" is more fitting here. Rayquaza does not fit on balanced teams because it's so frail and lends no defensive utility)
  • Choice Scarf Rayquaza appreciates Defog support from teammates such as Giratina-O, Arceus-Ground, and Arceus-Water (Waterceus is not the best example of a Defogger since it's not recommended in the analysis, try something else like Ho-Oh or Excadrill).
  • Mega Gengar can trap and eliminate many of Rayquaza's checks such as Arceus-Fairy and Defensive Xerneas, while Rayquaza pressures many threats that force Mega Gengar out, such as Ho-Oh and Primal Kyogre.
  • Stealth Rock support from the likes of Primal Groudon and specially defensive Necrozma-DM can help Rayquaza achieve more consistent 2HKOs on support Arceus formes.
  • Yveltal and Lunala pressure many of the same threats that Rayquaza does such as Arceus-Fairy and Primal Groudon, allowing an easier breakdown of the aforementioned threats.
  • Zygarde-C can wall out many physical threats that Rayquaza struggles to beat once locked into a move, including Necrozma-DM, Ho-Oh, and Arceus.
  • Primal Kyogre can take on defensive Arceus formes that switch into Choice Scarf Rayquaza, while Rayquaza can pivot into Groudon for Kyogre on a predicted use of Precipice Blades or Stealth Rock.
