Red Dead Redemption

So.... this game looks fucking awesome. I'm thinking of actually buying this one, which is something I don't usually do (I usually just mooch off of a friend's copy). Has anyone played it? Is it worth the $60?

The idea of a game set in the wild west really interests me. There are quite a few movies of those time periods that were just fantastic, and it really has that genre-allure. The game's open-ness and innovation looks really good from what videos I've seen. Critical reviews have been positive too, although I usually don't listen to them too much.

Discuss.

Looks interesting, has gotten good reviews and people generally like it. It was the same situation for GTA4. I bought that game and well its cool, and im still only like 8% of the way through, so obviously not my type of game, so no way i'm putting money down on this.

Anyways from what I've seen and heard, if you like rockstar games, and the old west, sure go for it.

Game looks incredible.... just about every NPC is unique in some way. Ive heard stories of people riding through the west, killing bandits to steal their money, and chasing down the people who have witnessed the event to watch as a pack of wolves jump out and attack the witness. If not this, the ability to lasso people and drag them along the ground with your horse is a reason to buy the game alone!

Will be getting on PS3, PS3 dudes add me on Docter_Sanchez32 and we will have some epic bar room brawls come next week on thursday (which is when i will be getting the game)

have this game... love this game. its like GTA except more stuff to do. not only in single player, but in multiplayer too. in gta it was just free roam. you can do a whole lot more than just screw around in free roam. i can imagine getting on with 10+ people for hours on this game

I wasn't quite interested in RDR at first, but then my friend urged me into getting one to play with him. He decided to find the $10 off deal at Frys and willing to paid $25 if I get it. It was a great deal I couldn't resist so I bought it. It turns out the this game is really fun. Its theme felt totally different from GTA4 and the graphic even improved (of course it should).

I have yet to get past the first part after my character had been shot by his friend and ending up in the hospitality of the nearby villagers. The multiplayer will definitely be loads of fun. I like the idea of traveling around with my buddies and forming a kind of clan together. The game modes will probably be good. So far that's what I'm thinking about RDR.

I need to finish the storyline, as the quality of the story of the missions are going to be the major determining point right now, but I'm gonna put this out there right now. Red Dead Redemption is probably the best game of this generation, and may be one of the best games of all time (it's competing with San Andreas for my #4 spot right now).

Have to say, from where I am, this is sold out absolutely everywhere. My little brother bought one copy on friday (the store wasn't prepared for the number of sales so it was one per customer), I then went into 4 stores in 2 different cities on my way home from college today (2 Game stores in Leeds, a Game in Wakefield and a Gamestation in Wakefield) and they were all sold out too.

Luckily I decided to try my luck in HMV just as I was gonna get a bus and they had some just in :D

Gameplay wise I haven't done much on it, but graphically it looks very nice (the night sky looks amazing in HD) and what I've seen when my brother has been on has been great.

Looking forward to going on the multiplayer when a few mates get it too, some of the stuff sounds hilarious.

yeah i can vouch for this game being a masterful demonstration of 'cinematic' gaming. they took GTA, gave it a very refreshing facelift with incredible graphics, gameplay and storytelling... and that's only singleplayer. 9.5/10, the only issues i have are with sometimes frustrating camera angles but that is pretty much it.

i was playing it just now and i needed to get to a station before the train got in so i could get on the roof and shoot some birds. i raced on horseback under moonlight and had to overtake it and cross in front, just getting into the station in time. then when i got onto the trains roof it headed east towards the orangey red sunrise and i was like wow this game is cinematic even without the scripting

anyone found anything more than a scant suggestion of a pc release? google just points me to lots of articles dancing around "maybe"

looks great, loved the first red dead, loved gtaiv, sure i'll love this

I definitely love this game. There's a ton to do in game, plus there's an online mode which is fun to screw around in too. I would recommend this game if you like sandbox...actually, I'd recommend it if you didn't. A lot of people are saying it's like GTA, but I say it's better. It doesn't have a lot of the annoying stuff (like going on dates...man, that was boring).

Lots of companies don't like to announce their PC version in hopes people will buy the console version and then double dip. Rockstar has been pretty good with getting all their games on PC iirc.

Is there anything to do on the train besides dicking about? I wouldn't mind being able to play some poker or black jack or some minigame, since watching a train go cinematically is nice for about 30 seconds, but when trying to get halfway across the map I tend to just go on the computer while sitting on the train (read:now). I also wouldn't mind it if there were more of those "shoot x number of animal y well on a train" things. That was pretty fun. Trains are nice for atmosphere but I always just end up forgoing train travel for other kinds of travel, and I wish they were useful for other things.
I'd like to drive one. Common how difficult could it be, you're shoveling coal into a fire, be nice to kill that conductor and do it myself instead of the train just grinding to a halt.
