VGC Reg G Chi-Yu "Weather control" team

My idea with this team is a "weather control" team, although after trying it out it doesn't feel like it's quite fast enough.

My strategy for this is to choose to have Chi-Yu or Archaludon as my "main" pokemon for each match, each paired up with Ninetails/Peliper respectively as main support, with more flexible backup from Pachirisu and Indeedee.

Here's the team:

Chi-Yu @ Air Balloon
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Ability: Beads of Ruin
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fire
Modest Nature
Heat Wave- Ruination- Hex- Will-O-Wisp

Archaludon @ Assault Vest
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Stamina
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass
Timid Nature
Electro Shot- Flash Cannon- Solar Beam- Draco Meteor

Pelipper @ Focus Sash
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Ability: Drizzle
Level: 50Tera Type: Ground
Modest Nature
Hurricane- Tailwind- Wide Guard- Helping Hand

Ninetales @ Covert Cloak
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Ability: Drought
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass
Timid Nature
Protect- Will-O-Wisp- Encore- Solar Beam

Pachirisu @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Pickup
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ground
Timid Nature
Follow Me- Protect- Nuzzle- Electroweb

Indeedee (M) @ Psychic Seed
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Ability: Psychic Surge
Level: 50
Tera Type: Normal
Modest Nature
Encore- Trick Room- Fake Out- Psychic Noise

So far my main issue is speed control, especially against my arch nemesis Calyrex Ghost Rider.
This could just be a skill issue but it feels like the team isn't "efficient" enough to gain priority, and not quite tanky enough to handle a turn or two of setup.
Maybe I should swap the focus sash around to ninetails?

Feedback and strategy tips welcome!

Heyo DingoTalker13, welcome to Smogon! The format for VGC right now is Regulation G, which allows the usage of one restricted Pokemon. You aren’t actually using one, which leaves you at a huge disadvantage. Not only this, but your sets and some of the Pokemon are highly suboptimal. I suggest looking at sample teams and using them before actually jumping into the builder.

As Pengu said, you are without a restricted Mon.

If you want to keep with the rain theme, you can replace Pelliper with Kyogre. If you want to keep with the sun theme, replace Ninetails with Koraidon or Groudon depending on your preference. But I wouldn't run both weathers on the same team. The likes of Tornadus for rain teams, and Whimsicott or Jumpluff for sun teams are great options to maintain weather control, as well as offering Tailwind support for speed control.

Depending on which weather you go for, your team options change a fair bit.

Archaludon can drop Solar Beam regardless of what weather you choose and can be replaced with either Body Press or Snarl. You can still use it in sun teams as an anti-rain answer. 252 Sp Atk/252 Speed is more optimal when you run Power Herb and Stalwart over Assault Vest and Stamina. Power Herb allows you the +1 boost and immediate use of electro shot out of rain. If you want to keep Assault Vest and Stamina, then you could consider EV spreads that allow a low/0 chance of a Bloomoon Ursaluna OHKO'ing with Earth Power without the need to Tera, and switch it's nature from Timid to Modest. Grass Tera is absolutely fine. But Tera Electric, Bug, Stellar and Fairy are also pretty good options.

Chi Yu is naturally better in Sun teams because it's own damage output isn't compromised, but is also still useable with Kyogre to net some potential OHKO's it wouldn't usually get otherwise. As for the set, given the power creep of Reg g, a faster harder hitting set with either Focus Sash or Choice Scarf are far better than bulkier sets.

Other rain team options
- Rillaboom: Has Grassy Surge, which wrestles terrain control away from the likes of Miraidon/Indeede F and is a great Fake Out user and reliable check to Miraidon and CSR with Assault Vest
-Tsareena: More niche than Rillaboom, but is great for stopping your opponent from firing off priority moves
- Tornadus: Priority Tailwind for Speed control, Bleakwind Storm in rain hits both opponents pokemon 100% of the time, and has a chance to drop Speed for more speed control. Access to priority Rain Dance to wrestle back weather if your opponent manages to change it. Priority Taunt to shut down Pokemon that want to setup speed control/spore or other status moves.
- Urshifu Rapid Strike: Insane. That is all.
- Basculegion: Swift Swim combined with Last Respects is deadly in the endgame, and can also hit insanely hard in the middle game with boosted Water attacks.

Other Sun options
-Ancient paradoxes such as Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt: Protosynthesis

That's just a very small list of more viable options you can use.
Once again as Pengu said, look at the sample teams on here (or look up teams of VGCPaste/Labmaus/Victory Road/limitlessvgc) for more consistent team builds to give you a foundation.
