So I am an ex competitor, meaning I was once on the pro-tour circuit and had a lot of fun competing and building new teams. I place second in my last tournament and that was well over 3 years ago, college life and other requirements have kept me from coming back. But now I have time again and want to build a new team, mainly a sweeper team. My most favorite pokemon are physical and mixed sweepers but I'm wondering if I've lost my competitive touch. So far I've come up with a team I've only written down on paper but it consists of:
Salamence
4hp/252atk/252Spd
Jolly Nature, Life Orb
Intimidate
Dragon Dance
Roost
Earthquake
Outrage
A regular Salamence that I've seen being used often but I have never trained my own before so I think this might be an excellent start to a team.
Gengar
Timid Nature, Levitate
252Sp Atk, 4 hp, 252 Spd
Leftovers
Shadowball
Focus Blast
Substitute
Hynposis (Maybe Pain split?)
Ah Gengar, my oldest companion, first pokemon I ever used competitively and love it still to this day. I always love speedy pokemon and Gengar fits right in for two reasons, one because has hypnosis and I love putting foes to sleep. And two because I could also add Pain Split, I like recovery moves and as far as they go pain split has brought my much joy in the past but I'm not sure if I should leave it out or be nice to my opponents and ditch hypnosis?
Magnezone
Ive never really thought about magnemite's becoming anything good but this evolution surprised me.
Naive, Magnet Pull
252SpAtk, 252Spd, 4 Hp (Noticing a pattern?)
Choice Scarf
Explosion
Thunderbolt
Flash Cannon
Hidden power fire
An interesting pokemon that I have tom to appreciate, I love pokemon with explosion and I also needed to stop using metagross and Forretress and pick out something new.
Scizor
Technician
Adamant Nature
252 Atk, 252 Hp, 4 Spd
Choice Band
Superpower
Pursuit
Bullet Punch
U-Turn
Scizor is another in a long list of pokemon I have used with the move U-turn which is by far my most favorite move besides earthquake. U-turn has helped me so many times by switching out when Scizor is the lead. I also went with maxing his speed and attack because like I said I just like speedy pokemon.
Machamp
Adamant Nature
No Guard (Fantastic!)
252 atk, 244 hp, 12Spd
Lum Berry(Maybe something else?)
Ice Punch
Dynamic Punch
Payback
Bullet Punch
Never in my life did I think Machamp would become a top competitor, but after seeing fighting types rise to the top and sick of seeing lucario, I wanted a Machamp on my team. I like lum berry removing status problems but I thought maybe leftovers and giving machamp Guts instead of no guard to boost his attack. Still unsure of how to use this pokemon correctly but I figured taking away some of his attack stats and putting them in speed would fit my theme.
Swampert
And now we come to my main problem
Relaxed Nature
Torrent
4Atk, 252Hp, 252 Def
Leftovers
Stealth Rock
Ice Beam
Earthquake
Roar
I like swampert for its typing and its high defense as well as the ability to roar threats away or protect itself and annoy opponents. I also like that I can put both stealth rock and ice beam on it. But my problem was that i also might have wanted a Gyarados.
