move 4: Focus Blast / Acid Armor
item: Leftovers
ability: Magic Guard
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Reuniclus is one of the most threatening users of Dynamax; its natural bulk in tandem with the HP boost from Dynamax and stat boosts from moves like Calm Mind and Acid Armor make it incredibly difficult to reliably take down. Additionally, thanks to Magic Guard and Recover, Reuniclus is one of the most consistent Toxapex answers in OU. While Reuniclus doesn't pose a great threat early-game when its checks are healthy, it can easily find opportunities mid- and late-game to set up against weak Pokemon like Ferrothorn and Seismitoad. Although Focus Blast is usually preferred so Reuniclus can hit Mandibuzz and Hydreigon, Acid Armor makes Reuniclus an even more potent late-game sweeper and can let it beat Galarian Darmanitan. Psychic can potentially be run over Stored Power for a more consistent matchup against Hawlucha and Toxapex, although this should only be considered on sets without Acid Armor. Because Reuniclus's special bulk is already rather good, this EV spread invests in physical bulk to improve Reuniclus's overall defensive capabilities and let it check Pokemon like Hawlucha. 44 Speed EVs allow Reuniclus to outspeed Toxapex and potentially take it out with a well-timed Max Mindstorm.

Since this set struggles with Dark-types, Fairy- and Fighting-types such as Clefable and Conkeldurr are helpful to pressure them. Mandibuzz also makes a solid partner because it can check Ghost-types like Aegislash and Dragapult. If running Acid Armor, Dugtrio is a fantastic partner, since it can trap grounded Dark-types like Tyranitar and Bisharp. Similarly, Toxapex is a good partner, since its Toxic Spikes help wear down Dark-types like Tyranitar and Grimmsnarl.

Although Stored Power doesn't beat Toxapex on its own, outspeeding it is still important in order to overwhelm it with a well-timed Max Mindstorm.

Reuniclus is one of the most threatening users of Dynamax; its natural bulk in tandem with the HP boost and stat boosts from moves like Calm Mind and Acid Armor make it incredibly difficult to reliably take down. I think it's important to note that Reuniclus is one of the most consistent Toxapex checks. While Reuniclus doesn't pose a great threat early-game when its checks are healthy, mid- and late-game it can easily find opportunities to set up against weak Pokemon like Quagsire Ferrothorn and Seismitoad. Although Focus Blast is usually preferred so Reuniclus can hit Mandibuzz and Hydreigon, Acid Armor makes Reuniclus an even more potent late-game sweeper and can potentially let it beat Galarian Darmanitan. Because Reuniclus's special bulk is already rather good, this EV spread invests in physical bulk to improve Reuniclus's overall defensive capabilities. Running Defense investment notably turns it into a good Hawlucha check. Make sure to note why you want to run 44 Speed EVs as well.

Since this set struggles with Dark-types, Fairy- and Fighting-types such as Clefable and Conkeldurr are helpful to pressure them. Tyranitar also makes a solid partner because it can beat Mandibuzz, check Ghost-types, and provide Stealth Rock support. Tyranitar's a pretty bad check to Ghost-types, I think that if you're looking for a check to Ghost-types, Mandibuzz is one of the best options. If running Acid Armor, Dugtrio is a fantastic partner, since it can trap grounded Dark-types like Tyranitar and Bisharp as well as Toxapex. The Toxapex matchup doesn't significantly change when you're running Acid Armor, so it's not worth pointing out as a major reason here.

Is Psychic worth a mention alongside Stored Power? Stored Power actually makes it a kinda unreliable answer to Toxapex, who tanks a Stored Power well after a single Calm Mind and can Haze in your face. If you have Psychic, you can deal comparable damage but without needing a boost to begin with, meaning you have a good chance of breaking through Haze Toxapex. The damage difference between Psychic and Stored Power only becomes an important factor once you hit 3 CMs anyway, and does anyone really feel like +3 Psychic is too weak to justify losing the initial damage?

Feels like 2 sets are trying to be combined into one here. Surely most of the time you use one of these two distinct sets, rather than a frankenstein of the two?
1) CM / Psychic / Focus Blast / Recover - more immediate power, hits its stride after 1-2 CMs
2) CM / Acid Armor / Stored Power / Recover - weaker, but sets up on a wider variety of stuff

Unless I've missed some kind of mechanics change?

Definitely agree with the above post that Psychic at least deserves a mention in here, even if it isn't slashed, as its immediate damage vs Lucha without having to dynamax is pretty huge among other targets like the aforementioned Toxapex.
If running Acid Armor, Dugtrio is a fantastic partner, since it can trap grounded Dark-types like Tyranitar and Bisharp.
Also mention pex here bc tspikes wearing down darks is absolutely amazing for aa reuni

nice work 2/2

amcheck :). Standard color scheme.

disclaimer: my last amcheck was 2 gens ago; I might have forgotten a few things from the style guide (or there might have been changes I'm not aware of). Nonetheless, the check:

Reuniclus is one of the most threatening users of Dynamax; its natural bulk in tandem with the HPstat boosts from Dynamax and stat boosts from moves likesuch as Calm Mind and Acid Armor make its Reuniclus incredibly difficult to reliably take down. Additionally, thanks to Magic Guard and Recover, Reuniclus is one of the most consistent Toxapex answers in OU. While Reuniclus doesn' not pose a great threat early-game when its checks are healthy, mid- and late-game it can easily find opportunities to set up later in the game against weak Pokemon likwith weak offensive pressure such as Ferrothorn and Seismitoad. Although Focus Blast is usually preferred sto Reuniclus can hit Mandibuzz and Hydreigon, Acid Armor makes Reuniclus an even more potent late-game sweeper and can let it beat Galarian Darmanitan. Psychic can potentially be run over Stored Power for a more consistent matchup against Hawlucha and Toxapex, although this should only be considered on sets without Acid Armor. Because Reuniclus's special bulk is already rather good, this EV spread invests in physical bulk to improve Reuniclus's overall defensive capabilities and lets it check Pokemon licertain physical Pokemon such as Hawlucha. 44 Speed EVs allow Reuniclus to outspeed Toxapex and potentially take it out with a well-timed Max Mindstorm.

Since this set struggles with Dark-types, Fairy- and Fighting-types such as Clefable and Conkeldurr are helpful to pressure Dark-types, as this set struggles against them (I suggest switching order to avoid confusion :>). Mandibuzz also makes a solid partneriring (probs too repetitive :/) because it can check Ghost-types likesuch as Aegislash and Dragapult. If running Acid Armor, Dugtrio is a fantastic partner, asince it can trap grounded Dark-types likesuch as Tyranitar and Bisharp. Similarly, Toxapex is a good partnerteammate, asince its Toxic Spikes helps wear down Dark-types likesuch as Tyranitar and Grimmsnarl.

maybe this is just because it's my writing but I can't find a single change in here that's... necessary? most of the actual prose changes are very subjective and don't help with flow at all, and things like vs such as, partner vs teammate, as vs since don't need to be changed; they mean the same things in the given contexts. Toxic Spikes can be singular or plural, since (layers of) is implied.

feel free to find me in the GP discord @MewBby#0926 if you want me to go over this more detailed

isn't otr worth a set? i've tried it (basically a carbon copy of the bw ou set) but this meta is kind of priority lacking, relies on ferropex for defense, and has a lot of rain abuse (swift swim) so it basically outslows everything and can blast through common defensive cores. it seems like teams right now are either rain offense (pelipper ferrothorn barraskewda dracovish etc.) , sand balance (ttar excadrill ferrothorn etc.) or random offense and ditto (darm-g, dragapult, ditto, etc.) so I feel Reuniclus does well against all of them.

Reuniclus @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
IVs: 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball / Thunder

you don't necessarily need shadow ball because very little resists psychic fighting combo. Thunder fucks pelipper, mantine, corviknight, etc.

to be honest i feel this set is straight up better atm (although acid armor is definitely viable) because the meta is so offensive that setting up until you can spam stored power is kinda of a pipe dream

Everyone on the QC team agrees that Hatterene is a better OTR Pokemon; thanks to its Fairy typing and access to Mystical Fire, it runs into less issues with its coverage.

i would disagree that that is explicitly true - stab is nice but focus blast still hits a lot of stuff harder, and magic guard is really nice, plus thunder is actually really useful.

or you could run both on the same team because they have similar checks and work together, and you need multiple setters on a TR team anyways, so..

Tyranitar is literally the only target that's hit harder by Focus Blast than Dazzling Gleam, and Gleam still does a fuck load. Magic Guard is a good ability yes but so is Magic Bounce, and yes Thunder is nice vs Gyara, Jellicent, Togekiss etc. but it's just not worth it over the consistency and better coverage that Hatterene provides. Even if the set was worth using, it is nowhere close to being as good as the main set, so it wouldn't be worth putting on a preview analysis.
