When building Monotype teams, the builder is currently sorted into usage based tiers from Ubers all the way down to PU. However, Monotype's banlist is different than OU's banlist, and we have banned Pokemon from lower tiers in the past like Zygarde-10% which would normally be in SM RU. Viability in usage based tiers also don't always correlate to viability in Monotype. For example, Appletun is a staple on Grass teams because of its Fire resistance, whereas Tangrowth is useless because its defensive typing doesn't add anything special, compared to usage based tiers where Tangrowth is UU and Appletun is PU. This is another reason why sorting Pokemon into usage based tiers instead of types when building Monotype is questionable.

When building Monotype, I think it would be more simple if all the banned Pokemon were filtered out of the teambuilder, and have all the Pokemon listed in types. The types would be listed in alphabetical order, and you'd have the Pokemon listed under each type as if you were to search for a certain type in the builder.

Each type would look like this, but without the tiers divider. Urshifu-R wold be directly above Araquanid without "UU", and so on. This is so that players have an idea of where the Pokemon stands in usage based tiers, but they know that it doesn't always correlate to Monotype when they're listed in types instead of with the other Pokemon in OU, UU, and so on. I think this would help a ton for anyone who's trying to build Monotype teams for organization, and it would be great if this could be implemented.

I worry that keeping the tier-ordering without having the tier divider to explicitly explaining the ordering could be a bit hazy/confusing for newer players. I wonder whether we could put a Monotype-specific disclaimer for the tier divider. Like "OU (in standard)" or something.

Since monotype also tracks usage stats, could they be used to order Pokemon? Also, could the Pokemon with no similar types to your other Pokemon be filtered out?
Both of these have been suggested in different threads already.

this is definitely extremely easy to do, but the only question I have is how would dual-typed Pokemon appear? For example, Toxapex would show up twice--once in Poison, once in Water, and I'm not the biggest fan of having one Pokemon show up twice in a search result.

I think it's fine. You'd only be looking at a single type most of the time anyway.

This came up somewhere else and I agree it can be confusing. There are other ways to order the Pokemon on each type such as just having them all listed alphabetically, or fully evolved -> NFE -> LC. I think it’s a topic that would appreciate more input but yeah it’s probably not the best to list Pokemon by usage based tiers within their respective types.

The only reason you'd want a Pokemon to pop up twice in ability or move filters is to compare with other Pokemon that also get that move or ability on its types. Toxapex showing up twice when you search for "Knock Off" on both Water and Poison would be to compare which Knock Off user I want on my Water or Poison team; in the case of Water it could be between Toxapex, Seismitoad, or Tapu Fini. However, if the player in question already knows that they are building a Water team, they would just apply the "Water" filter beforehand, and search for Knock Off and it would end up only displaying Knock Off users on Water specifically. Otherwise, just listing one Toxapex when filtering "Knock Off" makes sense since the player in question isn't looking to compare Knock Off users on a specific type if they don't have a type filter beforehand. Listing two of the same Pokemon can get needlessly complicated otherwise if you're just trying to check out what Pokemon in general get Knock Off (or other common moves and abilities).

I think having the type filters stay when you go from Pokemon to Pokemon when building Monotype helps and makes a Pokemon popping up twice in other filters unnecessary. I could filter for "Water" and "jump" to the type as it would otherwise take me like 5 seconds of scrolling to get to where the Water Pokemon are at the bottom of the teambuilder. If I wanted to make a balance Water, I could start with god Toxapex and go from there, and the "Water" filter would still be there as I move onto slot 2-6 and I can quickly view what Pokemon are available on Water teams and throw them onto my team this way without having to reapply the filter for each slot. There's a huge distinction for Monotype than other metagames as you're literally forced to have the same type of Pokemon on your team, so it makes sense to have it exclusively for Monotype in comparison to other tiers where you may even want to avoid type overlap.
