REVENGE

Hey guys, Izzetmaster here, and welcome to my first RMT here at Smogon. I have been a member of this site for little while and have lurked in the corners in the shadows of other better players and contributors. However, it is at last time for me to make an entrance.

Now onto the team itself, I have been using on the Official servers for quite a while now, and with mixed results. Sometimes this team works amazing and completely rips the other team apart, and on a bad day it looks like i'm a level 1 COD n00b who cant look down the sights of a gun without having an epileptic episode. But thats why i'm here, to get some inside expert help on how to improve this team.

TEAM AT A GLANCE

This team is so much fun to play, constantly switching to try to beat an otherwise confuddled opponent, since i have never seen this team ANYWHERE before. Nobody really expects an opponent to have 4 REVENGE killers on his/her team.

IN DEPTH REVIEW

THE LEAD

dpmfsa376.png

METAGROSS @ Occa Berry
Nature ~ Adamant (+Atk/-SpAtk)
252Hp/236Atk/20Def
Bullet Punch
Earthquake
Stealth Rock
Explosion

Ah yes, Metagross, my lead of choice most of the time. He is a solid choice for any team, whether you choose him as our lead or not. However most people tend to overlook him due to the rising popularity of fire attacks on starters (Heatran, Infernape, Azelf). But the Occa Berry solves this problem at least temporarily. For instance, when the game starts and your opponent sends out his lead, if it has a fire move, it will most likely use it to its fullest. Occa Berry activates lowering damage and you will most likely KO it with a powerful Earthquake (barring Azelf). On my team, Metagross's job is to set up SR first turn at all costs, unless he is facing something he can hurt, in which that case he will attack, forgoing the entry hazard in favor of a possible early one up on the opponent. When he faces something he cannot handle i switch out immediately, saving the Explosion for later when it could be crucial in the battle.

THE SAVIOR

dpmfsb073.png

TENTACRUEL @ Leftovers
Nature ~ Calm (+SpDef/-Atk)
252Hp/120Def/136SpDef
Surf
Toxic Spikes
Sludge Bomb
Rapid Spin

Here we are, the star of the team truly, without him, NONE of this would be possible. He does the best job on the team, gets rid of those troublesome entry hazards. If it weren't for him, the residual damage of SR and possibly Spikes would rack up extremely fast, giving my opponent a much easier time of KOing my REVENGERS!! He also sets up Toxic Spikes, which i love. They completely obliterate teams that don't have the means of getting rid of them properly. TS combined with SR makes switching a very dangerous prospect for my opponent, even with just one layer of TS down. It means for him another pokemon gets poisoned or badly poisoned and he takes 12% damage upon entry (not talking about resistances of course). He is also a very decent special wall, reaching a very respectable 341 in the department, combined with 364 HP, he can wall most special hits, even a thunderbolt or two perhaps.

THE STEEL CRUMPLER

dpmfsa462.png

MAGNEZONE @ Choice Scarf
Nature ~ Naive (+Spd/-SpDef)
252SpAtk/252Spd/4Hp
Thunderbolt
Flash Cannon
Hidden Power (Fire)
Explosion

And here we are, the start of the 4 REVENGERS!!11! To start out, i knew that steel types were going to cause me a lot of problems. Thanks to their numerous resistances and high defense, they were going to get in the way of what i was trying to do. Scizor usually likes to come in and crash the party, so i knew i needed someone to take him down to Chinatown. And here we have Magnezone, the steel type that completely destroys his metallic brethren. And since most people look at the smogon recommendations and go, yeah right, as if im going to need Shed Shell (at least thats what i used to say when i used Fortress and Skarmory), they will be in a world of hurt, when their CB Scizor is locked into Bullet Punch, he comes in a takes him out, no trouble at all. The only steel type that causes him trouble is probably Jirachi. Even though i have a Choice Scarf for some great speed, HP Fire isnt enough to kill it in one shot, and depending on how bulky the Jirachi is it might take 3 or 4. So it can TWave me and proceed to Iron Head me and flinch me a lot, but in all the times that has happened (which is numerous i tell you) I usually come out on top, broken and battered, but on top none the less.

THE DARK KNIGHT

dpmfb461.png

WEAVILE @ Choice Band
Nature ~ Jolly (+Spd/-SpAtk)
252Atk/216Spd/40Hp
Ice Punch
Brick Break
Pursuit
Ice Shard

You wanna talk about beef? This guy brings it to the table in spades. With a Choice Band in his wicked little claws, he packs some serious punch. I decided not to go with a Choice Scarf this time, which is strange because i go for speed over power, hitting first over hitting hard. But to counteract this somewhat, a Jolly nature is used. With access to (in my humble opinion) the best priority move in the game, in the form of Ice Shard, he hits those otherwise pesky Dragon types first for SUPER EFFECTIVE, almost assuredly, 100% damage (except for Kingdra, damn you Kingdra....). Weavile really shines when you bring him in on a Salamence or Dragonite that has had a few DD's under his belt. The scenario plays out like this usually: Salamence switches in on Tentacruel, hoping for a quick DD and then trying to sweep. I switch to Weavile, he DD's, if his over confidence gets the better of him (more often than not it does) he's burnt like yesterday's toast. If he does switch, whatever comes in takes a big hit from Ice Shard. Win - Win situation the way i look at it.

THE DECIMATOR

dpmfsa474.png

PORYGON-Z @ Choice Scarf
Nature ~ Modest (+SpAtk/-Atk)
252SpAtk/252Spd/252Def
Tri Attack
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power (Fighting)

Okay, remember earlier how i said that without Tentacruel this team wouldn't be possible? That he was the true star of the team? Well, if hes the star of the team, this insane beast right here is the supernova. He has won me so many games its not even funny. I can even bring him in at low health and he will destroy an unprepared team. The other day he won me a game with 2% health remaining!! This is always my ace in the hole. He is that last REVENGER that I reveal, and only is he revealed after another one is taken down. Coming in usually on physically defensive pokemon, his Download ability automatically gives him a +1 Special Attack boost, giving him team sweeping power in the blink of an eye. He is my only sure fire answer to Swampert (short of exploding), where his boosted STAB Tri Attack can obliterate his comparatively weak Special Defense like it was never even there.

THE INFERNO

dpmfsb257.png

BLAZIKEN @ Choice Scarf
Nature ~ Adamant (+Atk/-SpAtk)
252Atk/212Spd/44Hp
Superpower
Flare Blitz
Stone Edge
Thunderpunch

And last, but most certainly not least, Blaziken, my most favorite pokemon of all time. Infernape? Please, I've never used Infernape, i prefer the power Blaziken offers, in both attacking stats. This baby gets the job done, period. After someone else takes the fall, Blaziken comes in a wipes them out, for sure. He is ridiculously strong, and he brings the all important fire type move to my team, as well as good rock and fighting coverage. People argue that Infernape offers higher speed. This is true, but the gods of pokemon have offered us, the Choice Scarf. While it does lock you into one move, you do not take 10% recoil damage like the Life Orb Infernapes, so you move first, AND, don't take unnecessary damage, thus providing (mostly) increased longevity of the BLAZING FIST (or would that be foot?)!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alrighty guys, so there it is. My high risk, very high return, team of 4 REVENGE killers. And please remember that this is my first RMT, so be gentle. I would love to hear tips on how to improve my format for the future. And of course, dont forget to rate my team. I would love to hear everyone's suggestions, but please note, i would like to keep the team at at least 3 REVENGERS! So don't remove too many of them. Thanks in advance!

THREAT LIST

Minor threats in green
Problematic threats in orange
HUGE threats in red

Gyarados - Magnezone, Porygon-Z, and Blaziken all have electric moves, no problem here

Blissey - Blaziken can come in and tear this blob up.

Tyranitar - Blaziekn to the rescue once again!

Gliscor - Ice Beam from the Big Z or Ice Shard from Weavile.

Salamence - Plenty of Ice attacks keep this guy in check

Gengar - I got no super effective attacks against the purple demon, and he runs Choice Scarf usually and will be faster than all of my pokemon, might take a while to bring down.

Infernape - Surf from Tentacruel brings it down hard.

Skarmory - Not usually a problem as most people dont run Shed Shell, Magnezone can take it out.

Cresselia - Could cause me some problems, but a Pursuit from Weavile does alright damage. Might take some time to bring down, overall, not a huge threat.

Bronzong - Heatproof versions don't really exist, so Blaziken can usually take it out, just watch out for Hypnosis.

Weavile - Easy peasy, bad defenses, just send in a Scarfer, Magnezone, Blaziken, or Z.

Fortress - Most don't run shed shell as noted earlier, so Magnezone will take it out no problem.

Metagross - Might cause me some problems, depending on the set. If its running Occa Berry, Blaziken cant top it out. And Magnezone falls to EQ as well. Somehwere inbetween medium and big threat, as TBolt does neutral damage.

Swampert - Only way of reliably taking it out is Explosion, or Tri Attack usually, not a huge threat.

Starmie - Haven't run into to many of these, but its weak defenses allow Z to Tri Attack it to death.

Heatran - Choice Scarf versions are the most common, best way to beat it is to explode with Metagross. Thats how i usually take care of it. But thats unreliable, so it gets a big threat

Breloom - Tri Attack does massive damage, usually OHKO.

Jirachi - Watch out for TWave/Iron Head flinch combo, very annoying but Magnezone usually comes out on top.

ANd thats all I got for the threat list for now. WIll add more in later if you guys tell me any big ones! Thanks!

Weavile = Fail in today's metagame. With Scizor running around on ~30% of teams, Weavile can be easily KOed or forced to switch out and take SR damage upon re-entry, provided Tentacruel hasn't spun them away. Btw, not everything takes a 'big hit from Ice Shard.' Scizor, for example, is almost willing to take two of them for the team. I suggest changing Weavile to a CB Mamoswine if you want STAB Ice Shard, or, the better option in my opinion, a flyer / Levitator as your team is very weak to Ground. Gyarados, Salamence, Flygon, Rotom-A, etc. A good choice would be Rotom-C, who could take care of Swampert for you along with Lucario, who you are also rather weak to. If you absolutely love Choice sets, you could give a TrickScarf set a try. But honesly, you could try just about anything.

On Tentacruel, I suggest going with HP Electric or Ice Beam > Sludge Bomb. It lets you hit Gyarados or Salamence hard, respectively, provided they don't have/use EQ. Sludge Bomb offers very poor coverage and is rarely more useful than STAB Surf. The only time would be against bulky waters (barring Empoleon) and HP Electric would be almost as good in that situation (way better against Empoleon). With Ice Beam you are walled by the aforementioned bulky waters, but those can be dealt with by Magnezone.

I'm going to come out and say it: Having 4 Choice users on your team is begging for your opponent to switch in on an uneffective attack and set up while you switch. Example log:

You switched in Weavile!
He switched in Flygon!

He's probably scarfed, so I'll just use Shard for the easy OHKO.

He switched in Metagross!
Weavile used Ice Shard!
It's not very effective...
Metagross lost (negligible amount of HP)!

Well, shit. Now I have to switch of or Bullet Punch will rape me.

You switched in Blaziken!
Metagross used Agility!
Metagross' speed was sharply raised!
Metagross is faster than Blaziken now even with a minimal EV investment in speed (44 EVs)!
Your team is fucked now!

See what I mean? And that's just one scenario. I can think of countless other possibilities-DD Gyara, SD Nape, and so on. Dude, at least make one of them a set-up sweeper, because having to constantly switch is NOT cool. It's a pretty basic rule of team-building.

P.S: Don't double-post like you just did. When faced in a similar situation, just click the 'Eit' button on the bottom-right corner of your posts to change them, like I just did. Just some friendly advice.
