[OVERVIEW]

Rhydon's Rock / Ground typing is accentuated by Eviolite and great physical bulk as well as very usable special bulk, letting it check many potent offensive threats such as Incineroar, Choice Scarf Rotom, and Braviary. High base 130 Attack combined with strong moves in Earthquake, Megahorn, and Stone Edge gives Rhydon the ability to pose a potent offensive threat to most teams and threaten common forms of entry hazard control such as Xatu, Silvally-Steel, and Cryogonal, making it a reliable Stealth Rock user. However, a lack of recovery leaves Rhydon easily worn down by enemy attacks and passive damage. This is compounded by its reliance on Eviolite, forcing it to be very wary of Knock Off users such as Incineroar. Furthermore, exploitable weaknesses to Grass, Water, and Ground mean that Rhydon is often at the mercy of the foe's coverage moves, such as Heliolisk's Surf, Comfey's Giga Drain, and Incineroar's Earthquake. These weaknesses also force Rhydon to play very carefully against Grass- and Water-types such as Sceptile and Slowbro.

Moves
========

Stealth Rock is near mandatory on every team, and thanks to Rhydon's bulk and offensive presence, it finds many opportunities to set it up. Thanks to its STAB Rock moves, Rhydon also is able to threaten Xatu, allowing it to reliably get up Stealth Rock against most teams. Earthquake is Rhydon's main STAB move, dealing respectable damage to any Pokemon that does not resist it. Rock Blast has high PP and hits multiple times, allowing Rhydon to easily deal with Pokemon such as Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary and Substitute Vivillon. Stone Edge has higher average damage than Rock Blast; however, due to lower accuracy and PP, it can leave Rhydon unable to beat Substitute users such as Braviary and vulnerable to PP stalling. Swords Dance allows Rhydon to set up in the face of Pokemon that cannot damage it effectively such as Night Shade Xatu, Type: Null, and Braviary, letting it threaten the enemy team as well as punish foes that try to set up against it like the aforementioned Type: Null and Braviary. Megahorn can be used to 2HKO Slowbro if Stealth Rock is up and always 2HKO Torterra, dissuading them from switching into Rhydon. Toxic is reliable passive damage against foes such as Rotom and Slowbro and allows Rhydon to wear down targets it cannot stay in against. It's also good to use if the opponent is not expected to use a move that significantly damages Rhydon.

Set Details
========

Eviolite combined with maximum HP EVs gives Rhydon incredible bulk. An Adamant nature with 16 Attack EVs hits a jump point, giving Rhydon potent offensive power. If Megahorn is used, this should be increased to 96 EVs and an Adamant nature to always 2HKO Slowbro after Stealth Rock. Putting the rest of the EVs into Special Defense maximizes Rhydon's ability to take special hits, notably preventing defensive Rotom from being able to 2HKO it with Hex. Alternatively, an EV spread of 252 HP / 44 Atk / 120 Def / 92 SpD can be used with an Impish nature to prevent Rhydon from being KOed by Swords Dance-boosted Tectonic Rage from Incineroar while also preventing it from being KOed by Choice Specs Guzzlord's Draco Meteor after 1 layer of Spikes.

Usage Tips
========

Rhydon should be brought in on Pokemon it walls such as Incineroar, Braviary, and Golbat. Stealth Rock should generally be set up as early as possible. However, if the opponent has a Xatu, using Rock Blast or Stone Edge is helpful to damage it on a predicted switch in and prevent it from bouncing Rhydon's Stealth Rock back. Swords Dance can be used to punish Xatu lacking Grass Knot, allowing Rhydon to avoid being stalled out by Roost, along with other Flying-types like Braviary and Golbat. Toxic should be used if the opponent is expected to switch in a Pokemon that can force Rhydon out such as Rotom or Slowbro, helping to whittle down those Pokemon. Rhydon's high Attack stat lets it use powerful attacks in neutral situations to chip the opponent's team if given a free turn.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that resist Water such as Vaporeon, Dhelmise, and Blastoise can be used to punish the many Water-types that switch into Rhydon, with Vaporeon and Blastoise generally coming in and using Toxic against enemy Slowbro, and Dhelmise hitting Water-types with its Grass-type STAB moves. Dhelmise and other Grass-types also appreciate Rhydon taking on Fire- and Flying-types for them. Pokemon that resist Fighting such as Rotom, Slowbro, and Comfey can help reduce Rhydon's weakness to Pokemon such as Passimian, and Comfey appreciates Rhydon's ability to threaten Golbat. Pokemon weak to Incineroar such as Sneasel and Decidueye appreciate Rhydon's status as one of NU's best answers to it. Sneasel is also able to help Rhydon by beating Rotom. Pokemon that resist Grass such as Vileplume, Golbat, and Incineroar help mitigate Rhydon's weakness to Grass. Spikes users such as Garbodor and Accelgor appreciate Rhydon's ability to pressure Xatu and can form an entry hazard setting core with it. Garbodor additionally resists Grass- and Fighting-type attacks for Rhydon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

An offensive set using both Swords Dance and Rock Polish with an EV spread of 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe and a Jolly nature can turn Rhydon into a potent sweeper, as Rhydon gets many setup opportunities due to its bulk and typing. However, even after a Rock Polish, it is still outsped by Choice Scarf Passimian and easily revenge killed by Comfey's Giga Drain. This set can also use Megahorn over Swords Dance to immediately hit enemy Slowbro. Ice Punch can be used to OHKO Torterra while preserving coverage against Flying-types. Pursuit can be used to trap Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Rotom and Choice Scarf Delphox, but if the user predicts the opponent's set wrong, both Will-O-Wisp Rotom and Calm Mind Grass Knot Delphox easily beat Rhydon. Roar can be used to force out setup sweepers such as Braviary and works well with Spikes users; however, Swords Dance is also able to force out Braviary and can be used to exert more pressure on the opponent. Metal Burst can be used to reflect any damage Rhydon takes back at its enemy, notably being able to KO Passimian if it uses Close Combat on Rhydon most of the time; however, once revealed, the opponent can generally play around it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Torterra**: Torterra takes little from anything Rhydon can use other than Megahorn and threatens to outspeed and KO it with Wood Hammer. However, Torterra must be wary of Toxic, which easily wears it down, and Megahorn, which 2HKOes it.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types like Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Blastoise generally take little from Rhydon's attacks and threaten to KO it with STAB moves; however, Slowbro must be wary of Megahorn, being 2HKOed on a switch in.

**Grass-types**: Grass-type Pokemon such as Decidueye and Sceptile resist Rhydon's Earthquake and threaten to KO it with 4x super effective STAB moves. Vileplume does not resist Ground, but its Strength Sap, bulk, and higher Speed let it threaten Rhydon easily.

**Faster Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Pokemon such as Vikavolt, Sigilyph, and Heliolisk outspeed Rhydon and threaten to KO it with super effective coverage moves.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Rock / Ground Typing with Eviolite and great physical bulk, as well as very usable special bulk lets Rhydon check many potent offensive threats such as Incineroar and Braviary. You mention having usable special bulk, you could probably list some weaker special attackers Rhydon can take on. (Nitpicky but mention having usable special bulk with spdef investment + eviolite, its spdef is actually pretty poor at a glance)
  • Base 130 attack with high base power moves in Earthquake, Megahorn, and Stone Edge lets Rhydon easily exert pressure on the opposing team.
  • A lack of recovery leaves Rhydon easily worn down by enemy attacks, as well as passive damage.
  • Reliance on Eviolite for much of Rhydon's bulk means that it must be very wary of Knock Off from opponents such as Incineroar.
  • Exploitable weaknesses to Grass, Water, and Ground mean that Rhydon is often at the mercy of enemy coverage moves, such as Heliolisk's Surf, and Incineroar's Earthquake.
  • Mention Rhydon's ability to threaten common forms of removal like Golbat, Xatu, etc.

Thanks to its STAB Rock moves, Rhydon also is able to threaten Xatu, allowing it to reliably get up Stealth Rock against Xatu. Why is Xatu in particular important to threaten as a rocker?

Earthquake is Rhydon's main ground STAB, with high base power, dealing respectable damage to any pokemon that does not resist it.

Rock Blast has high PP, and hits multiple times, allowing Rhydon to easily deal with pokemon such as Braviary. Particularly useful for Sub variants as well

Stone Edge has higher base power than Rock Blast, at the cost of lower accuracy and PP, which can leave Rhydon without a way to hit opponents such as Braviary and Rotom.

Swords Dance allows Rhydon to set up in the face of pokemon that cannot damage it effectively such as Night Shade Xatu and Braviary, letting it threaten the enemy team, as well as letting it punish enemies that try to set up against it.

Megahorn can be used to 2 hit KO Slowbro if Stealth Rock is up. You also 2HKO stuff like Slowking and Alola Eggy w/o rocks

Toxic is reliable passive damage against foes such as Rotom and Slowbro, and allows Rhydon to wear down opponents it cannot stay in against. Such as? You could probably just mention fat stuff that you can't do much to but hates being hit with Toxic

Set Details
========

Eviolite is used to increase both of Rhydon's defenses by 50%, significantly increasing its bulk.

Maximum HP increases Rhydon's Physical and Special bulk, allowing it to take significantly more hits. You could move this down to the spdef investment bit, it flows a little better

An Adamant Nature and 16 Attack EVs hits a jump point, giving Rhydon potent offensive power. If Megahorn is used, this should be increased to 96 EVs and an Adamant nature to 2HKO Slowbro after Stealth Rock.

Putting the rest of the EVs into Special Defense maximizes Rhydon's ability to take special hits, notably preventing Rotom from being able to 2HKO Rhydon with Hex.

Alternatively, an EV spread of 252 HP / 44 Atk / 120 Def / 92 SpD can be used with an Impish nature to prevent Rhydon from being KO'd by Z-Earthquake from Incineroar after Swords Dance, while also preventing it from being KO'd by Guzzlord's Specs Draco Meteor after 1 layer of Spikes.

Reckless is used as Rhydon's ability as none of the abilities benefit Rhydon, and Reckless gives access to Pursuit.

Usage Tips
========

Rhydon should be brought in on pokemon it walls such as Incineroar, Braviary, and Golbat. Must be cautious of Toxic from Golbat

Stealth Rock should generally be set up as early into the game as possible, however if the opponent has a Xatu, using Rock Blast or Stone Edge is helpful to KO it, and prevent it from Magic Bouncing Rhydon's Stealth Rock.

Swords Dance can be used to punish Night Shade-less Xatu, allowing Rhydon to avoid being stalled out by Roost, a similar strategy can be used against pokemon such as Braviary and Golbat. Golbat doesn't like roosting on a potential Earthquake

Team Options
========

Pokemon that resist water such as Vaporeon, Dhelmise, and Blastoise can be used to punish the many water types that switch into Rhydon, with Vaporeon and Blastoise generally coming in against, and Toxicing enemy Slowbro, while Dhelmise can come in on and hit water types with its Grass STAB. Vapo/Blastoise switching into other bulky waters is pretty much just a stall war, especially mirror matches. Perhaps some offensive grass/electric mentions?

Fighting resists such as Rotom, Slowbro, and Comfey can help to reduce Rhydon's weakness to enemy pokemon such as Passimian, with Comfey appreciating Rhydon's ability to switch into and force out enemy Golbat.

Pokemon weak to Incineroar such as Sneasel and Decidueye appreciate Rhydon's status as one of the NU's best Incineroar answers. Sneasel is also able to help Rhydon by beating enemy Rotom. They also appreciate Rhydon setting rocks to chip stuff including Inci

Pokemon that resist Grass attacks such as Vileplume, Golbat, and Incineroar help to mitigate Rhydon's weakness to Grass attacks.

Spinblockers are able to preserve Rhydon's entry hazards, Missy can taunt defoggers

This set can also substitute out Swords Dance for Megahorn to immediately hit enemy Slowbro.

An EV spread of 52 HP / 252 Attack / 204 Speed and an Adamant Nature can be used to maximize Rhydon's power, as well as outspeed enemy Vaporeon (help me find another benchmark), however this leads to a significant decrease in Rhydon's bulk.

Pursuit can be used to trap pokemon such as Scarf Rotom and Scarf Delphox, although if the user predicts the opponent's set wrong, both Will-o-wisp Rotom and Calm Mind Grass Knot Delphox easily beat Rhydon.

Roar can be used to force out opponents such as setup sweepers such as Braviary, as well as synergizing well with friendly Spikes users, however Swords Dance is also able to force out Braviary, and can be used to exert more pressure on the opponent.

Metal Burst can be used to reflect any damage Rhydon takes back at its opponent, notably being able to KO Passimian if it uses Close Combat on Rhydon most of the time, however once revealed the opponent can generally play around Metal Burst.

Ice Punch is worth a shout I think, hitting Tort extra hard is nice

Checks and Counters

**Torterra**: Torterra resists both of Rhydon's STAB moves, Earthquake and Rock Blast or Stone Edge, taking little from anything Rhydon can use other than Megahorn, as well as outspeeding and threatening to KO Rhydon with Wood Hammer. This could probably just be an expansion in the grasses section. Understandably Tort's a big issue for Rhydon but offensive variants don't like switching into Megahorn, whereas neither of them rlly like Toxic.

**Grass Types**: Grass type pokemon such as Decidueye and Sceptile resist Rhydon's Earthquake and threaten to KO it with 4x super effective Grass moves. Vileplume does not resist Ground, however access to Strength Sap and its higher speed stat lets it threaten Rhydon easily.

**Faster Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Pokemon such as Vikavolt, Sigilyph, and Heliolisk all outrun Rhydon, and threaten to KO Rhydon with super effective coverage moves.

**Bulky Waters**: Bulky water types such as Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Blastoise generally take little from Rhydon's attacks, and threaten to KO it with STAB water moves.

I reckon toxic and knock off are worth mentioning somewhere, Rhydon being poisoned/knocked is detrimental to its ability to check stuff like Inci, Brav, etc.

Stone Edge has higher base power than Rock Blast, at the cost of lower accuracy and PP, which can leave Rhydon without a way to hit opponents such as Braviary and Rotom. it's more that Rock Blast's multi-hit nature lets it bop Substitute users

This set can also substitute out Swords Dance for Megahorn to immediately hit enemy Slowbro.
  • An EV spread of 52 HP / 252 Attack / 204 Speed and an Adamant Nature can be used to maximize Rhydon's power, as well as outspeed enemy Vaporeon (help me find another benchmark), however this leads to a significant decrease in Rhydon's bulk.
  • Pursuit can be used to trap pokemon such as Scarf Rotom and Scarf Delphox, although if the user predicts the opponent's set wrong, both Will-o-wisp Rotom and Calm Mind Grass Knot Delphox easily beat Rhydon.
  • Roar can be used to force out opponents such as setup sweepers such as Braviary, as well as synergizing well with friendly Spikes users, however Swords Dance is also able to force out Braviary, and can be used to exert more pressure on the opponent.
  • Metal Burst can be used to reflect any damage Rhydon takes back at its opponent, notably being able to KO Passimian if it uses Close Combat on Rhydon most of the time, however once revealed the opponent can generally play around Metal Burst.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Torterra**: Torterra resists both of Rhydon's STAB moves, Earthquake and Rock Blast or Stone Edge, taking little from anything Rhydon can use other than Megahorn, as well as outspeeding and threatening to KO Rhydon with Wood Hammer. However Torterra must be wary of Rhydon using Toxic against it, as this can easily wear it down. (megahorn 2hkoes it, def worth mentioning.)

**Bulky Waters**: Bulky water types such as Slowbro, Vaporeon, and Blastoise generally take little from Rhydon's attacks, and threaten to KO it with STAB water moves. (smth about slowbro and mh, has a high chance to 2hko even defensive sets after rocks.)

**Grass Types**: Grass type pokemon such as Decidueye and Sceptile resist Rhydon's Earthquake and threaten to KO it with 4x super effective Grass moves. Vileplume does not resist Ground, however access to Strength Sap and its higher speed stat and bulk lets it threaten Rhydon easily.

**Faster Attackers with Super Effective Coverage**: Pokemon such as Vikavolt, Sigilyph, and Heliolisk all outrun Rhydon, and threaten to KO Rhydon with super effective coverage moves.

I wouldn't even bother writing about Reckless tbh, it's never actually gonna come into play

Remove the 124 / 252 / 132 spread from OO too, it's being overly inclusive for a spread that's just not very good (also Vap still outspeeds that spread jsyk)

[OVERVIEW]

Rhydon's Rock / Ground Ttyping is accentuated by Eviolite and great physical bulk, as well as very usable special bulk, letting Rhydon check many potent offensive threats such as Incineroar, Choice Scarf Rotom, and Braviary. Very high base 130 aAttack, (AC) combined with high base power moves in Earthquake, Megahorn, and Stone Edge, (AC) gives Rhydon the ability to pose a potent offensive threat to most enemy teams. This high attack and STAB combination teams and allows Rhydon to threaten common forms of hazard control such as Xatu, Silvally-Steel and Cryogonal, making it a reliable Stealth Rock user. However, (AC) a lack of recovery leaves Rhydon easily worn down by enemy attacks and passive damage. This is further compounded by its reliance on Eviolite, forcing it to be very wary of enemy opposing Knock Off users such as Incineroar. Furthermore, exploitable weaknesses to Grass, Water, and Ground mean that Rhydon is often at the mercy of enemy the foe's coverage moves, such as Heliolisk's Surf, Comfey's Giga Drain, and Incineroar's Earthquake. These weaknesses also force Rhydon to play very carefully against [two spaces here] Grass- and Water-types such as Sceptile and Slowbro.

Moves

Stealth Rock is near mandatory on every team, and thanks to Rhydon's bulk and offensive presence it finds many opportunities to set up Stealth Rock. Thanks to its STAB Rock moves, Rhydon also is able to threaten Xatu, allowing it to reliably get up Stealth Rock against most teams. Earthquake is Rhydon's main gGround STAB move (RC) with high base power, dealing respectable damage to any pPokemon that does not resist it. Rock Blast has high PP (RC) and hits multiple times, allowing Rhydon to easily deal with pPokemon such as Sub-Bulk Up Braviary and Substitute Vivillon. Stone Edge has higher average damage than Rock Blast, however due to lower accuracy and PP it can leave Rhydon unable to beat Substitute users such as Braviary, and makes it vulnerable to PP stalling. Swords Dance allows Rhydon to set up in the face of pPokemon that cannot damage it effectively such as Night Shade Xatu, Type: [make sure there's space here] Null, and Braviary, letting it threaten the enemy team, as well as letting it punish enemies that try to set up against it (RC) and as well as keeping up with enemy foes' Defense boosts from the aforementioned Type: [once again, space here] Null and Braviary. Megahorn can be used to 2 hit KO 2HKO Slowbro if Stealth Rock is up, as well as 2 hit KOing enemy 2HKOing opposing Torterra, dissuading it from switching into Rhydon. Toxic is reliable passive damage against foes such as Rotom and Slowbro (RC) and allows Rhydon to wear down opponents it cannot stay in against. [RC, add period] tThis is useful to use if the opponent is not expected to use a move that significantly damages Rhydon.

Set Details

Eviolite increases both of Rhydon's defenses by 50%, giving it incredible bulk. [remove one of the spaces here] Maximum HP EVs increase Rhydon's Pphysical and Sspecial bulk, allowing it to take significantly more hits. An Adamant Nnature and 16 Attack EVs hits a jump point, giving Rhydon potent offensive power. If Megahorn is used, this should be increased to 96 EVs and an Adamant nature to 2HKO Slowbro after Stealth Rock. Putting the rest of the EVs into Special Defense maximizes Rhydon's ability to take special hits, notably preventing Defensive Rotom from being able to 2HKO Rhydon with Hex. Alternatively, an EV spread of 252 HP / 44 Atk / 120 Def / 92 SpD can be used with an Impish nature to prevent Rhydon from being KO'd KOed by Z-Earthquake from Incineroar after Swords Dance, while also preventing it from being KO'd KOed by Choice Specs Guzzlord's Specs Draco Meteor after 1 layer of Spikes.

Usage Tips
========

Rhydon should be brought in on pPokemon it walls such as Incineroar, Braviary, and Golbat. Stealth Rock should generally be set up as early into the game as possible. (RC, add period) hHowever, (AC) if the opponent has a Xatu, using Rock Blast or Stone Edge is helpful to damage it on a predicted switch in (RC) and prevent it from Magic Bouncing Rhydon's Stealth Rock. Swords Dance can be used to punish Grass Knot-less Xatu, allowing Rhydon to avoid being stalled out by Roost, and a similar strategy can be used against pokemon such as Braviary and Golbat. Toxic should be used if the opponent is expected to switch in a pPokemon such as Rotom or Slowbro, which can force Rhydon out, helping to whittle down those pPokemon. Rhydon's high aAttack stat lets it use powerful attacks in neutral situations (RC) and chip the opponent's team if given a free turn.

Team Options

Pokemon that resist water such as Vaporeon, Dhelmise, and Blastoise can be used to punish the many water types that switch into Rhydon, with Vaporeon and Blastoise generally coming in against (RC) and using Toxic against enemy Slowbro, while Dhelmise can come in on and hit water types Water-types with its Grass STAB moves. Dhelmise and other Grass types also appreciate Rhydon taking on enemy Fire- and Flying-types for them. [two spaces here again, delete one] Pokemon that resist Fighting resists such as Rotom, Slowbro, and Comfey can help to reduce Rhydon's weakness to enemy pokemon opposing Fighting-types such as Passimian, with and Comfey appreciatesing Rhydon's ability to switch into on and force out enemy opposing Golbat. Pokemon weak to Incineroar such as Sneasel and Decidueye appreciate Rhydon's status as one of the NU's best Incineroar answers. Sneasel is also able to help Rhydon by beating enemy opposing Rotom. Pokemon that resist Grass attacks such as Vileplume, Golbat, and Incineroar help to mitigate Rhydon's weakness to Grass attacks. Spikes users such as Garbodor and Accelgor appreciate Rhydon's ability to pressure Xatu (RC) and can form a hazard setting core with it. Garbodor additionally resists Grass- and Fighting-type attacks for Rhydon.
