Risky Ambipom Moveset

I saw an Ambipom similar to this on Shoddy and decide to do some damage calcs for it to see if it really is a viable option. I'm not saying this is a revolutionary moveset or that it will change DP as we know it. I'm just saying it may be a fun moveset to try out and catch your opponent off guard.

[SET]
name: Switch and Die
move 1: Screech
move 2: Pursuit
move 3: Focus Punch
move 4: U-Turn/Double Hit/Return/Baton Pass/Taunt
ability: Technician
item: Focus Sash/Wide Lens
nature: Jolly
evs: 4hp/252atk/252spd

[SET COMMENTS]
This set works with Stealth Rock and Spikes. Its really pretty simple, the opponent switches to their physical wall and you hit it with Screech. Then if it switches you hit it with pursuit. Focus Punch you can also do on the switch and it can hit some things hard. The last move is if it doesn't switch. U-turn to get out if you really can't do anything, Double hit is 157 with the Double Stab and Return is 150 with the Stab. Baton Pass is to pass the Screech to something that can kill it. I'm not quite sure how Taunt works but it always is a cool move to have around in case you need it.

The rest I think get owned, especially Cresselia. Weezing, Gliscor, Bronzong and the other regular counters will suffer. Its basically a predicting game, will they switch, or will they stay?

Rhyperior, as you can see with the damage calcs can wall this pretty well but there are so many other counters for that so its okay.

So what do you guys think? It might not be too great but I think I presented it in the correct way?

The only comment i have, as i dont think this set is very viable, is that Pursuit is a good attack with Ambipom, as if they switch it's 80BP, and if they don't it's boosted, so it could take out some fragile pokemon,

But then again, what's switching out of ambipom that wouldn't kill it on the turn you screeched?

It might be interesting as a starter. You can screech on the first turn, assuming they expect fake out and then attack.

I think Payback is a better option than Pursuit on Ambipom, honestly, though I guess on this set it has some appeal. This still seems a bit gimmicky overall, though.

On the other hand, Taunt is actually a great option. I used a Taunt non-BP Ambipom on shoddy for quite some time (Fake-Out/U-turn/Taunt/Payback usually), and it was probably one of my better ideas ever. The most common switch-ins to a predicted Fake-Out (and really, it's a crime not to run it on Ambipom) are set-up pokemon that resist or are immune to Normal. Generally Steels and Ghosts. Taunt laughs at the vast majority of them, and U-turn gets you out of there. Bronzong will always try to set -something- up, as will Forry. Scizor is going to try to stat up too. Mismagius will Sub/CM, Dusknoir will likely wisp, and Gengar likes to Sub and Hypnosis (though Payback obliterates him anyhow). I also did some experimenting with Fire Punch and Brick Break in other slots, and even though it's fun to completely counter a lot of the walls out there, Fake-Out/U-turn is too good to pass up.

Don't use BP as you can't pass screech anyways go with U-Turn as a better damaging switching attack. This set could work as a starter because SR which is almost present in every match will negate your focus sash so will SS or hail and I don't think you need wide lens that much.

This sounds just like the Honchkrow set I posted in the creative moveset thread.

I'd stick with U-Turn here, because anything which might be KOd by Double hit will definitely be switching out. U-Turn would be superior, just to exploit the halved defense, and get another poke in.

Why not just do this with tyranitar? Sandstream finishes off some focus sashers, and he gets stab on the pursuit, as well as having a much greater survivability (barrin fighting attacks, which both pokes fall to quite easily...)

you baton pass to a counter after they switch to get rid of Screech.

then again U-Turn works there =]

This version could be potentially viable in particular situations, but I prefer running this starter:

[SET]
Ambipom @ Life Orb
move 1: Fake Out
move 2: Shadow Claw
move 3: Brick Break
move 4: Thunderbolt
ability: Technician
nature: Naive
evs: 252atk/6spa/252spd

[SET COMMENTS]
Fake Out scouts his tank/ghost, as well as his starter. If ghost you ShadowClaw (main stoppers are Dusknoir and CScarf Gengar). Skarmory gets 2HKO from Tbolt after the FakeOut. (anyone would switch, but it's worth mentioning)

Gyarados is in the same boat as Skarm. Only Speed EV Gyara can outrun Ambipom after 1 DD. Brick Break takes care of Tyranitar and can be used for utility in smashing annoying reflects or barriers.

FakeOut just pops the hell out of the weaker poke starters (Weavile, Jolteon, Dugtrio, etc). It wont help in beating their speed, or OHKO them, but that's why we don't run U-turn, which only provides marginal damage when unstabbed anyway.

[COUNTERS]
Basically anyone with a CScarf will end the monkey's fun in one hit. Regarding Dusknoir, WoW is always a monumental idea, especially after absorbing the FakeOut. Don't worry, ShadowClaw won't OHKO Dusk, even if it crits with it's high ratio. At that point, PainSplit your heart out. Forretress tanks this guy with no problems, as does Blissey. Beware a crit from Brick Break. It wont OHKO, but if for whatever reason you DIDN'T Thunderwave on the first turn, you're gonna have to switch. Ambipom hates status, and if he's running LO to maximize his damage output, Protect is your best friend. (Yanmega anyone?)
